  • Varosha is a coastal district in the city of Famagusta, located in the eastern part of the island of Cyprus. It was once a popular tourist destination and one of the most developed areas in Cyprus, but has been abandoned since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.
After the invasion, the entire population of Varosha fled, leaving behind a ghost town that has been uninhabited ever since. The area has been under the control of the Turkish military, and entry is prohibited to the public.
The status of Varosha has been a source of tension between the Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus. The Greek Cypriot side considers Varosha as a valuable piece of property that should be returned to its rightful owners, while the Turkish Cypriot side sees it as a bargaining chip in negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Recently, there have been some developments that indicate that there may be some efforts to reopen Varosha, but the situation remains complex and unresolved.
