Oh my god, I remember watching Creepypasta GMOD maps on a channel who was dedicated to GMOD back in 2013, one of them was really similar to the Jeff the Killer one (but it's not the same iirc), all of them were full of just crappy JPEG screamers just like here yet the puzzles were interesting, this really made me back to a lot of memories from those times, thank you Vin

@@razman5993 Sadly it isn't, after trying to remember it the name "Ventury" came in and after searching it was a channel called "Venturiantale", that surprisingly ended disbanding this year after a controversy, seems that the channel decayed a lot with time and became those generic popular games milking channels, but when I watched it it was a only GMOD (and a few games)

Thanks for checking out another one of my maps Vinny! The movie screen in the pool area of gm_subliminal does actually function, but requires on the Media Player addon. If you don't have it installed that's probably what's throwing all the errors.
Nipper's maps (zuhhh, blahhh, etc.) are all CS:S levels, and if I'm remembering correctly the sound effects and music loops missing here depend on some entity specific to that game. I forget what it's called off the top of my head, but I think it's something that activates at the start of a round. The entity isn't part of Gmod, so the sounds never start playing, which is a shame. If Vinny ever decides to showcase maps like that I hope he gives them a shot in CS:S itself, the effects/loops are a huge part of the fun! Assuming he can tolerate the associated copyright issues.
Okay no, I'm wrong. I've seen the issue I described mentioned before in discussions of Nipper's work, but either it's been fixed or it was wrong to begin with, because I just tried a few of these levels in Gmod and the effects and music play just fine. Whoever submit them to Vinny may very well have just removed all that stuff for the sake of the VOD.
Vinny, the Zuhhh map is an extremely old CSS map made by nipper. You thought you played that map last time but it just looked familiar cause it was the same author. The map was not intended for GMOD. Was just a weird map created back in the day for source and was played a lot in counter strike 1.6 and source.
I cannot even begin to describe how much joy I feel seeing Vinny play the J2 Halloween/Abstract maps. They're some of my favorite maps of all time, and I regularly go back through them for the fun of it. Doing them in VR in Gmod is also an amazing experience. I just wish he had the music playing on them because that's like half the experience.
I really like the gmod stuff, I hope we get a "weird maps" series after halloween. If enough people are into this you should do a viewer-made maps stream too
A big problem with trying to make horror maps for Gmod that never seems to get addressed is the walk speed and sfx. Can't really get scared when you're blazing through stock audio surroundings like the damned Doomslayer.
Hey Vinny, I don't know if you read these but you should check out the game called INFRA, it's a source game and it has a lot of "liminal" style spaces. Basically put you in the boots of a structural engineer who finds himself combing through the abandoned infrastructure of the fictional Finnish city of Stalberg, uncovering corruption and taking photos of the disrepair. When I first played it it was way longer and detailed than I expected, but definitely one of my favorite walking simulators and it does the spooky atmospherics very well without actually doing blatant horror, it's right up your allyway.
Humans are born with two fears. Falling and loud noises. Jumpscares is the equivalent of doping in sports, but with horror. You know it "works" and also know its lazy and down Right not fair. Jumpscares is googoo gaagaa levels of horror
BRO zuhhh was a map in a series of three (i think) that I played on CS:S with some folks on a server that granted players some custom magical abilities like cloaking, super strength, accuracy, teleportation, super speed and such. It was so fucking trippy and fit the map perfectly. Brings back good memories even if half of them were just people bitching back then that I had a super squeaky voice. Sad to see half the sound bits don't even work in the Garry's mod version that Vinny's playing here. edit: super sad about this but I don't remember the other names of the other maps, NOR do i remember the name of the CS:S server. Not that the server would necessarily still be up anyway but man... i didn't think I was old enough to be getting nostalgia on this scale.
It's J2 Team (+ some others) Map Pack for CS:S - there's like about 7 or 10 of those. You can find them on GMod's Workshop on Steam bundled together by someone. They're really dope and fun to play through on your own, but with some people it's even more enjoyable - for instance, you get to fully experience the "idiot zoo" gag, hahah. Btw, I even emailed Vinny about checking them out if he was going to have another GMod video.
Hammer Editor was my first step into the world of 3D modeling and animation. Once I was introduced to the Unreal Engine, though, I abandoned Hammer for a while. After seeing Vincent play through these beautiful masterpieces, and the abstract maps that I used to spend hours in creating funny scenes, I am tempted to begin developing at least one, or two, new maps to be used in Garry's Mod. Don't expect anything from me until next year, but I just want to put it out there.
Another things is that Gmod is different from something like, say, Silent Hill, because there the monsters/scary things that appear can potentially hurt and kill your character, whereas in Gmod (as more of a sandbox) your character probably isn't gong to be in any danger, so the sudden jumpscares or a monster appearing aren't going to be nearly as scary because you know that monster probably can't hurt you in Gmod. Therefore the "creepy/unsettling spaces" maps for example are definitely much more effective and scarier here.
Hey Vin, Nipper's map like Arghhh and Zuuuuh are made for counter strike source originally. There are musics playing in everyroom (this is why it feels quite empty despite all the visuals hapenning) but it doesn't work on your end for some reason.
Nippers CS 1.6 maps were amazing, there were several death match servers entirely dedicated to nippers maps, one even had drivable tanks that would shoot rockets.. I miss being 12
26:00 "If you haven't left this video by now, thank you. You are saint, or very generous" I pay 5 bucks a month for this and it is worth every single cent.
Hello Nebraskan here, yes you can come back from the corn, most actually do, but never the same. I personally lost the ability to feel any sort of emotion towards another human being after my trip into the corn, i did however gain an ability to earn the trust of dogs super easy.
I think best liminal spaces doesn't make you feel the space is abandoned, on contrary liminal spaces that gets me always seem to be well maintained. The feeling of abandonment is for self not for the location; as something feel out of place and that something is you. A place where you shouldn't be, a place things are a bit off and not populated by humans but somehow still made for humans. The unsettling feeling is not because there will be something happening around the corner or in the long hall way, the unsettling feeling is because it feels like you are trapped in somewhere and nothing will ever happen.
Vinny: "If you haven't left this video yet.." This video still contains a Vinny, of course I'll stick around! Vinny: *immediately proceeds to shoot burbs* I take it back, Vinny would never harm the cousin of duck, I think.
7:50 zuhhhh (and many many other maps) were created by NIPPER for Counter-Strike: Source way back when random maps were the hit big thing on the Source engine. It's a shame though pretty much all of the sound effects are missing from the workshop download... All of those random doors Vinny went through are supposed to play guitar/piano riffs from random classic rock songs. The apartment with the pool is from Lady in the Water by M. Night Shamaylan. So many cool pop-culture references on those maps!!!
19:40 Jesus vinny, he was killed on the couch here you just never went back to the couch again, you could see his corpse on the left for like a second when you got close.
I love how source/goldsrc have been the traditional halloween go-tos, for many years. The best source engine horror mod I can think of is Underhell, but only the house segments. I think those are very well done in the horror department. Atmospheric, mostly. Nightmare House is one of my favorite mods for half-life 2, period, maybe not for the horrors. I think it's neat.
Oh also i dunno if there are gonna be more of these. but i very much recommend all maps by DntN gm_memory gm_section gm_russia and also Summer 2001 is another great map, has a lot of neat easter eggs and little objectives you can do.
INFRA is one of my favorite games now, I'll never stop shilling it. Such great atmosphere, mystery, exploration, and puzzle solving. Would be a treat to see Vinny playing through it
Okay, these maps- the jumpscares do get me, but like... not beyond triggering a circuit in the lizard brain. I see a big pale face fill the screen, the lizard brain identifies a threat coming towards me and takes over until the part of the brain that's responsible for, you know, any kind of thinking, recognizes the JPEG as a non-threat and and I'm right back to being kind of bored.
hmmm we need a jumpscare game that you can avoid all jumpscares 100% but only if you don't panic. "If you hear a whistle, do not turn around, do not even stop walking, act as if you didn't hear it. If you do anything unusual since the whistle to show the ghost you heard it, it will come infront of you to see if you can see it; and if you react again, it will eat your soul~"
Tried this myself and I have to say Gmod is amazing for horror if you find the right add-ons. Nearly shit myself when I was playing a map and found a bunch of random doors open. It turns out there was a npc running around that I forgot about that apparently had the ability to open doors.
that one hotel map is so disappointing because it starts out so good and it has really good environments and then it just shits all over itself with fucking atomically loud jpeg scares
rp_necro_forest_revamped is a pretty good spoopy map for gmod. It doesn't have any jumpscares or anything, it's just an open post-apocalyptic sandbox. The atmosphere is pretty nice. Maybe pencil it in for next year or something? By the way, the toilets _are_ destructible.
Nebraskan Nightmare was actually pretty neat in concept, but if I can nitpick a bit, I think it was kinda lame that the monster moved as if breathing. It kinda fucked up the immersion a bit.
The second map (the one with the big ship) the first couple "scares" were at *least* not overly flashy/obnoxious and were at least a tiny bit more subtle and didn't have loud sounds, buuut then shortly afterwards there was a flashy picture with a loud scream, ugh...
Mainly conjured this thought from thinking about why gm_stage_6 and similar maps don't really hit that liminal feel for me, because I'm also still tying to piece together what makes liminal spaces special. From my perspective, liminal spaces-or at least the really effective ones-should be devoid of most objects you might expect to litter about the place, otherwise it just feels like an abandoned building, which _does_ evoke the same sort of feeling, but to a much lesser degree. It only captures one element of liminal spaces (from what I've seen of them), which is that they are places that are abandoned/empty, but they miss that it should be in such a way that it feels vaguely alien. Like a new home without it's furniture, or better yet a home you're moving out of that has had your furniture removed. You feel like there _should_ be something in these places, but there isn't. I think that's what most contributes to the feeling of paranoia, because your brain starts trying to fill in the blanks. If there's too much clutter, your brain has more to think about and recognise. Then, at other times, you feel there is something there that shouldn't be, but your brain is kind of happy there is anything at all, so you just quietly accept it even if it doesn't make sense. The geometry/architecture itself should also reflect this and ellicit a dreamlike feel. That first map Vinny talks about that he's trying to experience again did this well. It had an office space connected to a large transitional space one might see in a mall that also connected to a supermarket with no labels or signs, no items to buy, not even rotten supplies left behind that no one would want, and no place to checkout. One other map he played also had a song from The Caretaker in it, and I agree with those two being linked. Liminal spaces sort of feel like the physical manifestation of a fading memory, like you can almost recall what a place looks like and what purpose it serves, but not quite. Or maybe not you, but it's as if the location itself has forgotten how it's supposed to be, if that makes any sense. At first I thought maybe "Deja vu" or "Jamais vu" might describe the feelings involved since they seem similar, but upon searching for their definitions, I reckon "Presque vu" is the simplest way to put it. It's not the unfamiliar seeming familiar, nor the other way around, but somewhere in between. I don't know, maybe that all sounds like nonsense, but maybe that resonates with how some others view it.
tbh stage is not liminal, it's was originally created for Cat's Homicide Server, but I wanted to make stage for other people, so it like it is. (map is much bigger, vinny didn't seen the catacombs)

Would that channel happen to be called GameSomeNess? I remember that it was a collab channel between 6 guys known for their "playthroughs" through "GMOD Creepy Maps" that eventually broke apart to do their own separate things...
@@WDWatameVirus really , what was the controversy ?
@@ThatButchBitch The group or the founder didn't do anything to anyone, but since the group was conformed by 4 siblings, one of them decided to reveal that they were from a really conservative-extreme Christian family, and if one of them decided to defy the orders and beliefs they would be disowned and prohibited to come close or talk to its siblings, two of the 4 siblings that conformed Venturiantale were disowned after defying the ideals and rules of their family (mostly their mom) then other brother got disowned, and now only the guy who created the channel is the one who stills making videos, after that info got leaked by its sister the guy uploaded a video (now deleted) to Venturiantale confirming that what his sister said it's true and that by that he was going to take a undefined hiatus, I think there's no news about what's up with him right now
@@WDWatameVirus I used to watch VenturianTale with my brother all the time. It’s sad that they grew up in an environment like that :( I hope the three that got disowned are doing well.
Thanks for checking out another one of my maps Vinny! The movie screen in the pool area of gm_subliminal does actually function, but requires on the Media Player addon. If you don't have it installed that's probably what's throwing all the errors.
27:15 I may be wrong but isn’t this the courage the cowardly dog house? The layout seems familiar
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT EXACT THING LMAOOO

34:05 Geez, Vinny, put a jumpscare warning next time, I nearly had a heart attack!!!
These shitty Gmod jumpscare maps have become one of my favorite things to look forward to on Halloween. Really glad he's still willing to play them.
I think he has a lot of nostalgia for these maps, so I don't see the tradition ending before he stops making content altogether.
Those Gmod horror maps with Jpeg screamers bring me back some memories. 24:55
When vinny just bursts into song at 7:25 and then goes silent before resuming his commentary
Vinny's reaction to that first jumpscare had me rolling, good lord that was funny.
Vinny rolls an absolute critical failure and gets stuck with like 90% shit maps but soldiers on through
...like a champ
I get the feeling Vin is that kid who goes in to a haunted house and tells all the costumed employees trying to scare him that he's totes not scared.
I wouldn't blame him if the employees are dressed up as jpegs
vr portion starts at 58:12
I really like the gmod stuff, I hope we get a "weird maps" series after halloween. If enough people are into this you should do a viewer-made maps stream too
@Moonlet thats what makes them good
A big problem with trying to make horror maps for Gmod that never seems to get addressed is the walk speed and sfx.
9:16 "Get Smart" theme intensifies
That first jump scare looked like a demon version of Gerard way, and in 90% sure it was him
He wants your vampire currency
@@Mike_Whickdale Sweet man! I'll need to check them out! And yes, I am very familiar with the idiot zoo part lol
The cosmic latte show gives me heavy space ghost vibes. Fond childhood memories.
Vinny actually missed the final boss of that ship map
A giant jpg of a goblin shark
Another things is that Gmod is different from something like, say, Silent Hill, because there the monsters/scary things that appear can potentially hurt and kill your character, whereas in Gmod (as more of a sandbox) your character probably isn't gong to be in any danger, so the sudden jumpscares or a monster appearing aren't going to be nearly as scary because you know that monster probably can't hurt you in Gmod. Therefore the "creepy/unsettling spaces" maps for example are definitely much more effective and scarier here.
Vinny: There’s a chance I haven’t done this.
Map: **Is the same map that he was just playing on**
Hey Vin, Nipper's map like Arghhh and Zuuuuh are made for counter strike source originally.
I miss being 12
There's one map with a big big jumpscare though, and its not even trying to be a horror map
@@erik34350 then just reload to when your 12, dummy
I wonder if vinny would have any interest in playing minecraft maps, they often take longer to go trough, but I think it could be interesting!
Minecraft horror maps are slightly better than gmod ones....
But only slightly!

This has become one of my favourite vine sauce series
24:58 That's a war face now let me see your war face!
IS THAT A LIMINAL SPACE??? IM GOING INSANE
36:16 Here's where Vine does the funni haha spookeh man voice, better known as Gunter.
The one with the cat noise and following explosive chaos sound effect had me rolling.
Vinny: "If you haven't left this video yet.."
This video still contains a Vinny, of course I'll stick around!
Vinny: *immediately proceeds to shoot burbs*
I take it back, Vinny would never harm the cousin of duck, I think.
Was the jumpscare at 5:50 one of the singers from My Chemical Romance? Jesus christ lmao
I'm so glad Vinny enjoyed the vr mod for gmod it's so worth trying to set it up
Zuhhhh is suppose to have plenty of music and sounds which really completes the map. Were these disabled on purpose to prevent copyright strikes?
If I had to guess, they probably weren't bundled with the map by whoever uploaded it
@@astrobstrd That was my guess too, whoever ported it to gmod did not properly pack the map.

Jesus vinny, he was killed on the couch here you just never went back to the couch again, you could see his corpse on the left for like a second when you got close.
Oh also i dunno if there are gonna be more of these. but i very much recommend all maps by DntN

and also Summer 2001 is another great map, has a lot of neat easter eggs and little objectives you can do.
I hope Vinny plays some comfortable maps in VR, like some chill camping or stuff like that, because I feel like it's a blast to experience those in VR
I would never wanna leave one of these vids early vin. I’m here for ALL the memes. Even the crusty ones
If you yourself like this urban exploration is a thing you like, then you should buy and play INFRA

Can't wait for Visions: Spooky Man Facing Corner
This is one of the funniest videos of the year all because of zhe spooky mans
Okay, these maps- the jumpscares do get me, but like... not beyond triggering a circuit in the lizard brain.
I see a big pale face fill the screen, the lizard brain identifies a threat coming towards me and takes over until the part of the brain that's responsible for, you know, any kind of thinking, recognizes the JPEG as a non-threat and and I'm right back to being kind of bored.
Got my lizard cerebelum fucking nuked by a Jeff the Killer jpeg a few months ago. Fucked up
hmmm we need a jumpscare game that you can avoid all jumpscares 100% but only if you don't panic. "If you hear a whistle, do not turn around, do not even stop walking, act as if you didn't hear it. If you do anything unusual since the whistle to show the ghost you heard it, it will come infront of you to see if you can see it; and if you react again, it will eat your soul~"
The ~ at the end made this read like some sexual thing
Nothing screams 2009 more than JPG jump scares in Gmod
Tried this myself and I have to say Gmod is amazing for horror if you find the right add-ons. Nearly shit myself when I was playing a map and found a bunch of random doors open. It turns out there was a npc running around that I forgot about that apparently had the ability to open doors.
These gmod streams are cozy and the new EP was great. Thank you Vinny, I hope you're doing well.
When you got in VR it was great, man gmod is still really fantastic.
that one hotel map is so disappointing because it starts out so good and it has really good environments and then it just shits all over itself with fucking atomically loud jpeg scares
i didnt leave the video after that screamer but my spirit sure did leave my body
rp_necro_forest_revamped is a pretty good spoopy map for gmod.
Probably just comes down to not wanting to pose a ragdoll and just using an NPC instead
Well, looks like you did not understand that the monster was very present both in real world and cinema world, explains the breathing
Similar in game-play concept to Return to the Obra Dinn

This stream was worth it for Günther.

Nice essay bro
