- Radio Nordsee International (RNI) also known as Radio North Sea International in English and Radio Noordzee Internationaal in Dutch, was a European offshore radio station, run by the Swiss firm Mebo Telecommunications, jointly owned by Swiss engineer, Edwin Bollier, and his business partner, Erwin Meister. RNI broadcast for fewer than five years in the 1970s and, courting both disaster and success, made a modest financial profit.
Lots more information can be found on Wikipedia.
I used to smuggle the Philips transistor radio under my sheets and listen to RNI in the evening. After 20.00 hrs the English DJ's took over from the Dutch, and that was the real thing for a me, a Dutch boy of ten in 1970. Swaying and turning the radio gently to get the best reception was an art in those days. And as the sun went down, the E-layer would distort the sound like a phaser. The sound also tended to faint and surge through the evening. After 45 years this still excites me. Thanks for uploading!
been there , such great days
Sunday - The Kent request Hour - I had a mention on it - got it on my reel to reel recording
I did the same thing as a 12 year old boy. Listening to RAdio Veronica on 192, later 538.
Het beste radio-station ooit! fantastische programma's ; top-DJ's
Radio Noordzee Internationaal!!!! WE NEVER FORGET YOU!!!
RNI 220 mtr; The Best Ever !!
Staggered when this amazing station came on - with such power, so many frequencies and truly international - after the UK closed down Radio Caroline - inspired hope that our generation could not be completely stifled. Thank you Meister, Bollier and all who started it up and kept it going!
Well said, we loved all the pirates played what we wanted and great presenters when they were true DJ's
We will never forget.
like yesterday and still so much alive. RNI will never day.
Radio North Sea International and Laser 558 where fantastic radio stations
Nice of you to mention Laser 558
every time u hear man of action it reminds u of when u were listening to the voice europe , the sound of the world , also aj on sundays on 6205 was out of this world
3 master, buitengaats om 8 uur "the English service".
I used to love listening to RNI, the last of the pirate stations to be heard in the UK.
Caroline completely passed you by then!
Ever heard of Lazer 558?
@@keansugo I listened to Caroline from it's first day of broadcasting. RNI kept going for some time after Caroline packed up.
John rember the opening on RNI would listen till the early hours great times
Nostalgie uit de jeugdjaren heerlijk!
The beautiful colored radioship Mebo Two..Unforgettable radio
De mooiste muziek jaren.
Bringing back happy memories of watery wireless days
For me it started already in 1966 thanks to my older sister. Caroline,London, 208... Been an RNI listener from the beginning till it's end. RNI was my station. Lived a few years in Germany ('71-'74) so it was the only D/E station with a good reception over there. This sounds so familiar to me. All the commercials, jingles announcements, the presentation... it's exactly how I remember those evening programs. Thanks for sharing. Grts Eddy
Looked forward to it every night great radio station
Yes at one time they used to have the last song ' Move over darling' before Man of Action
Can you still get it, Still broadcasting somewhere ?
The best radio ship ever. Some trying to recreate on line...but they are poor imitations.
hitmix1075, something for everyone
I liked Atlantis too - now that was a Fun Station
I remember the painted lady very well (RNI)
Sad, but I think I would prefer to listen to recordings of 1960's-1970's music stations like this rather than today's stations.
hitmix 1075, on the web
Totally agree!!!
Only music Radio Station I listen to on the Radio is 'Gold' took ages to find it on my Car Digital Radio ( under a different section on my Radio )
ahh..fantastic radio
Good music RNI best radio station
Superb. Happy days!!!
R.N.I. on the Rocks. My favourite sender in that time.
It's a shame that "Something's Wrong With Me "/ Austin Roberts didn't chart in the UK
Was this the same station as radio Veronica or was that a totally different competitive station?
