I drove a cab in Key West for almost 14 years after Wilma's 8 ft wall of water swept through my home and took all my electronics for work back into the Atlantic with her. It took my Jeep, too. I was the only female on the 6pm-6am shift and I have lots of good stories, including one about the bachelor party guys who asked me to babysit a blowup doll they were dragging around the bars with them. The drag queens put makeup and a wig on her, she was given lots of glowing bling (lightstick jewelry), 2 T-shirts, some Angelina's pizza that I stole from her, and plenty of affection. There was an adult film convention going on at the time and some of the "actors" (shame on you, Igor) got a little too frisky with her, so I had to put a stop to that. Anyway, the night ended with a 27 mile trip up US1 to get them back in time to prepare for a 4 am flight out of Marathon, and the relay switch for my headlights went wiggy so my lights were off and on like a disco strobe on a pitch black highway with a new moon. Luckily, I can drive US1 blindfolded and it was pretty much the same thing. They took (name withheld) the blowup doll with them. But the 2 guys who were smoking back in the luggage compartment the whole way left a bag of skunky smelling flowers that was stinking up the van. That stuff was so loud I had to toss it out onto the road as I passed by the Cudjoe sheriff station. Anyway, I live in S. America now but my heart is still in Key West.
