How to make it automatic? Circuit which you made is manual, we have to press button to start the circuit. How to make it automatic? I mean 15 to 20 seconds in normally open and 15 to 20 seconds normally closed relay mode? And it should happen infinitely vice versa!

The 0.1-µF capacitor in parallel with a 1-µF electrolytic capacitor should be as close as possible to the LM555. The capacitor used for the time delay should also be placed as close .....

It's the capacitor slowly discharging after being charged up with the button press, it's an extremely basic 555 circuit. Google other NE555 circuits for ideas

To set the time to 3 minutes you should put a higher value resistor for the timing. to change the power to 5v you need just a 5v relay. all other components are fine with 5v

The push button needs to be momentary because it needs to be a "shake awake" and keeps getting activated as it's being used or carried but needs to sleep when inactive. It will help at the tactical range. I'm printing the body when I get my circuitry handeled. I haven't gone to electrical circuitry class for 15years, but recently just aquired soldering equipment and components... just getting back into things. I made a delay start and a delay off both with a 555, but I'm trying to make one that does both with just one 555 timer.

check the datasheet. I think the formula is t = 1.1 x R x C but there is a limit .......large caps have leakage so the resistor has to supply current exceeding the leakage

yes but a relay probably would fail since the peak current is extremely high. Plus a relay is less precise in turn-on/turn-off
