Almost two years ago there were 6 chargers. Now there are 105 in the USA.
That is amazing. And I bet in additional 30 days there will be ~120 Chargers.
Clean cars with clean domestic power.
I do not have range anxiety I have restroom and Food anxiety. :D

He also is the owner of the other company he mentions in the video "Solar City" who is the company pairing with Tesla Motors to produce the chargers to be used by their customers to charge the cars.

Agreed. His stuttering is due to the fact he has so much knowledge and his vision is so huge that something as simple as public speaking is actually very difficult (you can tell he's trying to figure out which synonyms to use to describe what he's saying so others can understand). This is pretty common in people that are able to achieve huge tasks like run a company etc.

By the way, what do you think is inside that white tower, the charging station? Obviously it has to store energy, since it delivers 120000 watts on demand even at night, far more than solar panels can produce. I say its big flywheels stored in vacuum, these can store that kind of energy very efficiently for days, and can be charged slowly and give off the energy rapidly. It could also be condensators or rechargeable batteries, but the speaker mentioned the system is low-cost.

My dad always used to tell me that the CEO has to be the best salesman in the company. Clearly though, someone else could deliver a better sales pitch. However, Elon is a great CEO for a different reason. I accept his message, not because he has a silver tongue, but because I trust and respect the man. Elon has the vision, foresightedness, and brilliance to not just do good business, but to change the world. Elon is a revolutionary figure and I will always want to hear him speak.

I'll suggest something, create a few spots at each shopping mall/complex, a little bit wider than the average car space to accommodate the chargers (hooked up to solar panels on the roof if its a multi-level car park.) hell the mall/complex owners could charge $1 to use the station if they wanted and it would still be cheaper than petrol.
Also would the connections be available to purchase to fit 1 in your home?

Really guys, no plans for covering Maine? There wasn't even one bit of my state on the "Nationwide" plan. I'd LOVE to go electric, but it seems like it takes ages for great technology to make it up here. Canada gets this kind of stuff before we do and we're only 3 hours away.

  • @mchaletim

Does anybody ask themselves how many vehicles a day these solar panel stations can handle? How long will the lines be before you get your turn at having your vehicle charged? Having a station three hours away only having to wait for everyone else to charge their cars, doesn't sound very convenient.

A great presentation - undoubtedly the future of transportation right there. For me though, there was a little something missing from proceedings. Specifically, I believe that Elon Musk should have gone into a dramatic magician-style dance routine at 1:52, just as the music kicks in. Look up "The Day Today Newsdancer" for a perfect example.
    Oh well, perhaps next time...

another thing thats pretty amazing is the concept of wireless charging...currently its not very efficient and its pretty slow but as it develops and becomes like superfast and it gets combined with this...its a pretty fascinating view of the future. instead of pulling into a gas station and doing what u do today...in the future u would pull into a charging station, not hav to get out the car and drive off fully charged for free in sunlight in 30 seconds or less. damn.

So the car has thousands of individual lap-top batteries. How fast can you supercharge one such battery? I would think its less than 30 minutes.
So if they can make the charger target all batteries individually, I think they can cut the charge time in half or less.

... Alot of gas stations don't even take six at a time, solar panels can be put on the roofs of existing gas stations (no, they don't need fields anymore for anything below a MW) and it's an emerging tech. It's a massive leap forward from what we have now and it can (and will) always improve: just give it time.

This guys approach is inspired. Right back to first principles - electric generation, geographical coverage, and cost. No doubt it will eventually entail a fee, as much for the installation of the Superchargers, but this guy is thinks in a language called 'revolution'. At one point in history, there were only half a dozen gas stations. Today, there are only half a dozen supercharger stations. Now watch history unfold before your eyes. A great day for humanity!
