Wow this is the best most thought out chicken coop I’ve ever seen. You gave us a spectacular tour ….you are really good at explaining everything. Thank you for allowing us to come with you on the wonderful journey.
Spectacular coop. At age 75 I built my first ever coop. I have built 3 more since. Each coop has a run attached. This year at age 80 I enlarged the run area to 10 X 25. This is in addition to the the first run 4 X 12 with an additional 2 X3 area under the nest boxes. I only have 8 hens but I have automated the water supply, added usb fans to each nest box. I have a exhaust fan and a grandpa feeder to keep rodents out of the feed. In addition the coop is elevated too make sure they always have shade. love every thing you have done with your excellent coop.
I've built my 1st at 63 after moving to a rural environment here in Florida everyone here has chickens, matta fact all that I hear in the mornings are roosters and turkeys.inland st Augustine love it here 👍
I actually tried to watch a couple of other videos, and while I appreciated their attempt at informative Content… i caught myself reverting back to yours… dude.. yours is so well thought out which you know already.. thanks again for the coop and the information..
I appreciate that! We work hard to entertain AND educate! I missed this info when we started and I didn’t want anyone else to miss out on having information. 🥰
The old timers I knew as a kid, used emery cloth to clean the dirty eggs, they sold commercially so every egg was important. Nice coop, mine also had cement floor, water and power. Wood was cheap then, so it also had knotty pine walls and a skylight.😂
WOWAZA 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I really wish I lived closer! I....Would you be there buying your eggs 🥚 for sure! 😋 It's so impressive. Thank-you! Adam for sharing 🥰😍🥰 💞
Having kids work. Awesome stuff. Teaching. Learning. Compassion for animals. Responsibilities. Consistency. This is beautifully Priceless. So much better than school. Great job Dad. But the front of your coop is nicer then my house 😂😂😊❤
Haha, thank you, and yes we are working on getting our boys to understand how to run a small business! We are excited to see them grow, and understand!
@Fluffy Feather Farm Good luck with everything. I hope to follow you along from ontario, middle of nowhere 😄. I've got 6 kids under 12. I farm, homeschool, massive tons of gardens, build with the kids woodworking, small business adventures. I fail all the time. But We pick back up and keep going. Low income is difficult, but I find so much beauty in a simpler life. No fake, just hardworking and so much freedom. Cheers
So impressive! Coming from corporate jobs, did you and your husband simply learn by necessity and just doing the work? Your farm and animals are clearly well taken care of!
Wow that is such a sophisticated system and has the best interest of the chickens at heart. I can’t believe how expensive eggs are in America. They are usually about £2.50 a dozen for free range here.
@@fluffyfeatherfarm in VA free range is currently $7-$8 dollars at Kroger. And it's just hard to trust. I would be a forever customer if I found a facility like yours. Do you sell online, i think you mentioned mailing eggs?
First of all I absolutely subscribed to Your channel. I appreciate you’re knowledge base and ability to communicate with the viewers how you’ve done - what you’ve done - in a very “make sense” manor. So Thankin ya for that.. 2nd - I read a Few of the viewers comments … and it appears that “Joel” is a hater and possibly alittle with jelly with “wow” fancy chicken coup and we actually make Money with ours since we’ve raised chickens for decades” If ya’ll rich folks just did it more simply like Joel/Karen does it… ya’ll could Make Money too!! Lord I apologize for the starving pigmees in New Guinea…. Somebody had to say it!!!joel/Karen… Thank you guys again for sharing what you’ve done. I apologize for joel - I don’t know him and nobody really needs to:)
We are glad we can help, and everyone has a right to their opinion… he was not wrong… this coop was expensive and probably not for someone who is looking to maximize profitability… but that was not our goal… we wanted something automated that our children could use easily and start to learn about running a business. Thanks again for the nice comments and watching our content!
A++! Our granddaughters love finding our duck eggs and now we have 10 young chicken hens that need a beautiful coop like yours (really, they said that). I love the automation, the conditioned work space and the exterior appearance of your coop! Next year there will be a similar one on our little farm. Thank you!
Wow! When you decided to leave corporate life and have a farm, where did you start with learning all of this information? Your farm is amazing, with such a strong attn to detail which seems to make it pretty dang efficient... where to begin? ❤
How in the world do you keep your coop so free of dust? No matter what I do we have major issues with dust accumulating everywhere. Love your set up and all your automation.
This is by far the best video I've seen on chickens and with details on automation. Where are you located sir? We are just now moving out to our homestead and it looks like we are going to be doing some of the things you are. Well done sir!!! May even have some questions. (subscribed now)
Yes, we recently moved the nesting boxes inside... the boxes with the opening into the finished area made it VERY dust inside the finished area. We will post a new video soon with the new additions.
Would like to know more about the roll away nest box. Most I looked at do not have the eggs come out the back. Is this DIY or did you buy? If so make and model please.
Hey guys! What is the size of your slab? Do you have any plans? Is there anything you would have done differently? Genuinely planning on building a similar setup for personal use.
WOW! What a fancy coop. I have priced out some of the items you have there and I can see why the cost "outweighs" the return. That being said, if you do it a little more simply it doesn't add much time/work to your chores and you can actually offset your cost of eggs. I have been raising chickens for several decades and we do make money off them.
Nice setup! I have the same roll-away nest boxes. How do you keep the hens from sleeping in yours. If I let my hens spend the night in the nest box, they will poop in them and foul subsequent eggs. So, we close the perch bar each night and reopen each morning. I have an automatic door like yours and a waterer that only needs filling every 5th day or so. Opening the nest box each morning and making sure no hens are in there each night means we are not fully automated. Hengear sells a spring operated mechanism on a timer that can be set to drop the roost bar each morning, but you’d still need to close it each night. And on most nights, we are pulling a couple of reluctant hens out of the nest box before closing it up.
Hummmmm…. We have never prevented them from roosting in the boxes… honestly I never really thought about it… if they get dirty we just clean them out. Does it create a large problem for you?
With the amount of space we have we don’t really see that problem very often, but if we had one that was being picked on, we would simply separate it for the time being… re-introduce it later on.
@@curiosity2learn376 yes but really the alternative is not better… so we found dog crate still inside the coop is a good option… still with the other chickens but protected.
Yes, the inside area (coop) is 12x16 but we are adding on a much larger section as we speak… and the outside area is about a 1/4 acre… front section with sink is 12x8. The new coop area we are adding is 18x30… it’s going to be super huge for all the chickens to roost at night… then the area we are using now will all be food, water, and nesting only…
Do you have any plans or basic dimensions of your coop? we currently have a basic AFrame we built, but going to upgrade to a larger coop and your setup would be ideal for us.
I do not, we actually worked with an existing building that was on our property when we moved here and added onto it and we are in the process of adding on again. I kind of built it as I went so if there are more specific items you would like details on I’d be happy to either send you a video or give you additional details… I can tell you the entire structure is 12 feet wide by 24 feet long with half of it, dedicated to the front section and a half dedicated to the chicken coop. But please reach out via email or our contact page and I can get you more details if you would like.
@@fluffyfeatherfarm thanks for the reply. Nope, basic dimensions is what I was looking for. Great setup. I'll email if I have more specific questions. Thanks a bunch!
I do not… we inherited the coop area, and then built on to the front, and honestly kind of designed it as we went… I’m sorry… is there a specific part I could help you with maybe?
We have about 100 right now but we are adding a new section to our coop to make it almost 3 times the size... we will be adding another 100 when that is complete.
We monitor it daily and change bedding often… we are working on a new section that we are going to utilize the “deep litter method” in… should make it even easier…
Agreed on automation is key, but no way am I putting a AC and fridge in a coop lol, I understand the mini business to keep the family entertained and to teach kids early on the value of money and work ethic, but the cost of power here in the tropics is insane, im also building a coop, but it has to be sustainable, so I'm going with solar for power and a full rain harvesting system for water, im going to have a similar watering system, but mine will pump up the rain water to a gravity feed system.
That's really cool that they learn that Sunset means the door is closing and it's CURFEW ladies! Run!!!!
lol! That’s right!
Wow those chickens live like queens… royalty at its finest.
