Thanks for this video tutorial, it was perfect for my 2012 RX350 and made the job very easy. The horn works again and it will pass inspection. Just FYI for anyone else doing this, you can buy just the spiral cable without the sensor/ECM that attaches to it from O'Reilly auto parts for less than half the cost of the whole thing at the Lexus dealer. It's aftermarket, made by Dorman, but fits and works perfectly.
I just made a video of replacement, there was nothing wrong with the clock spring on that vehicle. As far as the blue connector, I don't know off the top of my head what specific wires run through it, that is something that would need to be looked up by digging through wiring diagrams. Maybe the steering angle sensor, but I am just guessing.
Thanks again for another great video! Why would one replace a clock spring/spiral cable? I'm trying to determine if the light squeaking I'm hearing is from the clock spring/spiral cable or if I need to lubricant the joint behind the brake pedal 2018 RX350 120k Canadian Built
Most common symptom is the horn (or other steering wheel button) starts working intermittently at first and then stops working. I have not heard one squeak before.
@@DailyAhadeesInEnglish-fl6pq hi, you can buy it online or from the dealership. You should contact your Lexus dealership parts department with your VIN and get the correct part number for your particular vehicle, then search for that part number.
Hi Viktor, while watching your video and taking the steering wheel out I accidentally pulled the cable cover under the steering wheel also and it unravelled. Do have a pic or can you take a pic so that I know how to rewind it? Thanks
@@Viktor_G_Automotive any old one sitting around you can take a pic from the inside inside without opening all the way? it's not difficult to rewind you just need to know how it starts.
@@Viktor_G_Automotive Hi Viktor! I just wanted to let you know that it's just impossible to redo it intuitively and taking pictures of another one is not easy because you will unravel it when you open it. I ended up buying another one. What a waste really but I have to give it to the people who designed it. It is quite an impressive design just like the differential design so simple yet so impressive!
Hey Viktor, do you know if any of the plugs/cables have anything to do with the hill hold assist? I replaced my clockspring to fix the steering wheel controls and horn on our 2011 RX350 a couple months ago and the only issue i've had was the hill hold assist being deactivated, causing the hill hold light to constantly stay on. Thanks!
Sorry, I don't know off the top of my head, there are a lot of wires in those steering column harnesses. If the issue happened immediately after part replacement, the problem is likely either with the replacement part or workmanship.
FYI although a nice tutorial, this tutorial isn't at all correct for the 2013 RX450h. There are no Torx 30 on the RX450h rather there are three wire spring clips that you push to release the airbag.
Interesting. I’ve never personally seen that kind of setup on an RX, the video was filmed on a 2011 RX450H and it uses Torx. I have heard from a couple of RX owners in Europe that their steering wheel airbag was attached differently from what I showed in the video. Are you located in North America or elsewhere?

@@leepetersen1968 nice work!
Just did this with your help. Went as planned. Thank you!

Did you do this yourself? Are you a mechanic? Lexus is charging me $1,300! Ouch! looks so simple!
Excellent video. Thanks, Viktor!
Glad to hear, my pleasure!
Thanks Viktor good job 🙏👏👏
Thank you too!

Thank you. I'll try lubricating that joint behind the brake pedal. Thanks again!
another excellent video...do you still work for Lexus as a Technician Viktor? Thank you.
Thanks! I left the dealership a few months ago after working there for 17 years.
Hi,
From where I can buy this clock spring spiral cable assembly, and is it same for all RX 350 models 2015 or different ?
