OMG I totally relate to you. My family's the same. My parents can't just understand why these figures make me happy. I just tell them that I need something in my life that would stray me away from bad things or thoughts and the everyday stress and reality of life. They still tell me it's such a waste tho. Don't care. 😂😂 Good video dude. I like this topic 💖

All of my friends don't collect figures...
That's why I like to come to UA-cam channel like this one and see what they collect and leave a comment.
It feels good to find other people have the same hobbies.
    Thanks!

It’s hard if you live in the us, make shit pay and also have to, pay outrageous prices for crap that is available for reasonable price everywhere else, like medicine, internet, tv services, transportation, housing etc. the ability to even have the money is the problem

People reselling figures for profit remind me of the jerks who bum rush limited retail collector edition games only to resell them two to five times their original value on eBay. (Ran into this issue recently with the Jak and Daxter games, ugh.) Regarding everything else, no one should have to justify themselves for a hobby they enjoy when it's relatively harmless. You don't have to be made out of money to budget, save up over a period of time or accumulate things over time. Beyond me how some people don't consider this before making assumptions. I collect, granted at a very limited pace - but I do so because, well, I can. Like you said, you earn the right to do with your finances as you please since you work for it. It's yours. And if you want to collect, then collect. Having something tangible from our favorite shows or video games or manga; it's worth something to us to collect it.

Very interesting video, I think that every collector who is into something considered as "childish" have to somewhat justify spending his money into that instead of "useful" things. I am into game collecting and to make it harder, I am into Japanese reto gaming and memorabilia almost exclusively. My wife and family don't understand how I can spend so much money into that child hobby. It would be great if everybody can just understand that, as soon as we don't spend unreasonable money in it, it's just a fun thing to do, like some enjoy buying a new car and other good foods and beverage or nice clothes... I think that every person passionate about something has a lot to offer in term of knowledge to other people and that's why I love your videos, your passion is palpable and I learn a lot from you, even if I am not into figure collecting (even if I have a few of them).

Twinsen Shrine I’m glad you get something informative from my videos. I agree but I think the stigma has gotten a lot better than compared to 20, 30 or even 10 years ago.
I mean there’s people out there collecting weirder things, I like to watch this show called extreme collectors and some of the things that pop up on there are outrageous, like McDonald’s memoribelia, vintage washing machines and yoyo’s. It’s a good show to watch though.

@@jackrippon1604 I agree with you even if in France the stigma is still pretty strong but as a lot more people are into anime and video games and pop culture in general, it will become more and more accepted and one day we will becoming has-been instead of weirdos :D
Anyway, I'm still pretty surprised to see how much the pop culture is everywhere in Japan (or at least in big cities) and how stigmatised are big collectors there... I speak about it to a Japanese friend and he says just like us : it is more and more accepted... But in a country where they have a giant 18 meters gundam as a statue in a place in Tokyo, I'm still surprised that it can be disregarded to have figures in it's bedroom.

Twinsen Shrine yeah that’s very interesting, Japan is a very different place isn’t it 😂. I’d love to hear first hand from the perspective of a Japanese collector/otaku

Informative video! Definitely relatable and some people say collecting is an addiction, which could be true, but its better to be addicted to something like this rather than some of the harsher addictions out there... Also cant wait for the next top 10. Youre the reason i got the Kenshin figure last month, and I couldnt be happier!

Josh Cohen collecting absolutely is in a way an addiction but as long as it stems from the right place and doesn’t detriment your life I think it can be a healthy and fun hobby to do.
I’m glad you were able to pick up such an awesome figure, there’s a lot of amazing ones coming out this month, so it’s tough to narrow it down

I always try and buy preowned figures (given its cheaper) but it's only characters that I love/have cosplayed and it's been mainly nendoroids (also do collect stuff animals, pops, posters and more) I've always collected since I was young, it's fun collecting things/characters you love, it's expensive af but worth it for me

thankfully, a couple of my siblings are into anime, so i don't have many issues with collecting anime Blu-rays and Japanese manga.
I don't really collect blu-rays anymore as i only order any when JB HI-FI or Madman is having a sale.
japanese manga on the other hand..... such a shame i am saving some cash for animaga.... if not id be broke collecting my favourite series
