If Arne Marit makes it over that mountain in the end in any shape to sprint or even being able to keep up with the peloton i would be massively surprised
I'm gonna be honest here: I really can't tell what's going to come out of this O'Connor move. His shape? It seemed not so great after the TT and stage 4, but then again he manage to hold off and actually extend his lead to the peloton on his own even when teams like Movistar were chasing. Did he just have some bad days at the start and is now starting to gain his form? Did he just have a good day and his shape is still far from optimal? We don't know. Also this parcours is exceptionally difficult, which tbh only makes everything more unpredictable imo, as there's a greater chance of having a bad day for anyone and massively shaking up the GC
He was on a flyer today - whichever way, it was a mistake to give him this much time - it's basically how happened last year - and absolutely anything can still happen, the parcours is brutal and totally unforgiving, by far the best of the 3 Grand Tours this year - enjoy the stage
What if Red Bull team tries to drop O'Connor in the climb ? After his incredible performance today he will need days to regain his health. It's a possibility that they could test him (UAE and Movistat to help them also). This would eliminate sprinters or isolate GC favorites like in 2011 --> Lidl-Trek with Cicone and Skjelmose (+Vacek?), UAE with Del Toro and Almeida, Bora with Roglic, Vlasov and Martinez. Of course Narvaez and LVE will be there (I probably missed some but those are the best sprinters/strongest teams for a team tactic. I didn't mention Van Aert as long as he will have to stay with Kuss (and Cian?). If they are in the first group he's gonna win. So here are my 3 favorites : For UAE I bet on Del Toro, strong sprint, could also try as in Down Under... Lennert Van Eetvelt nothing to say we all saw what he can do. Narvaez if he doesn't try to go solo in the climb and lose too much energy might get it.
@@CyclingGuyI mean there are bonus seconds to take on the top of the climb : Roglic and some GC guys need these. My question is will Ben be able to follow their sprint and will he be in the wheel or can they trap him in a 2nd group like in 2011 ? Anyway let's hope for some action and enjoy !
Thanks Matteo, I love the thought exchanges. Anything is possible, yet I expect O’Connor to be alert. as DS, I would not have them waste energy for a few bonus seconds, not after yesterday. They need a raid on wa big stage, with the potential to drop O’Connor to put minutes back into him
I agree with this scenario too (sustained race and attempt on the climb), at least not to let O'Connor recover and wear him out before the WE ... I would add Kung in big odds!?
I suspect that Roglic had a bad day. In his interview after winning stage 4, he said his back was bothering him a bit. Not exactly inspiring confidence in his podium chances. Is he playing possum? Time will tell. 5 minute lead is tremendous. I don’t know how the other teams could spot him that much time.
Yes, very weird, especially given that he ain't exactly a midfielder, he's up there and his ITT improved massively - I frankly see Ben hanging on here!
Isn't the last mountain to hard for sprinters as Groves and Strong, Bitnerr? I think the GC teams or Jumbo will take a high pace so they have more chance with a GC guy or Van Aert. Personally I think that Narvaez has a really good chance if it comes to a reduced bunch sprint. In the 1st stage of the Giro he climbed that last climb very well against Pogacar and he also won the sprint. I think 1) Van Aert 2) Narvaez and 3) Some random puncher or the very good sprinters that survive the last mountain 😮
Strong is a decent puncheur. I don’t know if he can climb like Narvaez, but Israel shouldn’t have any trouble pacing him back in contention. I have Wout and Strong for this one. It’s too much for Bittner.
Strong can definitely pass that climb, he's got a solid punch i believe. Even Groves i believe can make it even if the Visma boys push hard. Only one i can see having real trouble following is Bittner
Good question ey, there's a chance they'll go out the backdoor under Visma LAB pressure - note they didn't push on the Stage 2 climb either - yet agreed, it would be a great way to work towards securing the green jersey for . Also check last year's stage 2 where he survived a double digit ramp in full finale, mixing it up with Kron, Vendrame, Bagioli and the likes, so I do think he has it in him, yet I know, here there's room to build up the fatigue in the run-in to the steep section, ... I was surprised not to see Narvaez active today, which is why I didn't pick him. Go Wout!!!
@@DenTibee true - overall it's not that hard a stage though - and there's still 25k to go from the top - yet I hear you, there's a real chance he'll get blown out the backdoor

I agree that it will be tough for him when Visma LAB sends it
Major mistake by Lipowitz, when in the break with O'Connor he let him go. why did Bora DS not tell him to follow every move O' Connor made?
When he attacked with Leemreize
I guess he was cooked ey, lost over 5' - O'connor was flying

O'connor was just so strong that nobody could have followed him. He's waiting for a child, gives him superpowers fr he was flying !!
Força João Almeida 💪🇵🇹
Deixa os falar....
Didn’t expect that, what a mistake, great stage. The GC battle is going to be extra fun now. There will be all kinds of exciting tactics!
Check!
With such a climb near the end, I definitely have my eyes on Vacek
Thanks for sharing Bobby and good call ey, he definitely has the potential to prove me wrong 😉
Great video, just wondering where you are finding these betting odds

too short and except for that 1 km not steep enough to drop O'Connor IMO (plenty of other stages where they could try though)
