What a team you make. You both compliment each other with great style and flair. You both make it look sooooo easy!!! Superb vids...always would like to see more!!!
I've watched almost all your videos and loved them so much I've signed up for a fly fishing course here in Switzerland. Never too old to start! Fished when I was a kid but never with flies. Keep up the good work guys!
you guys are living in TFH..trout fishing heaven... cool restful video of lovely river and forest.... it makes sense to be a greenie of some description... power to you.
Great vid Gareth, there are some fantastic fish in there this winter. It was cool to see how well you two work together on the river and really nice to meet you, like I said you guys have been my inspiration to fish more around Taupo 🤙
Love the videos! I could be way off but I've seen in a few videos you are fishing your nymphs pretty deep. What is the average depth of water you fish and what length do you put between flies and indicator? Forgive me if you've already answered this in one of your videos.
Respect how you fellas fish barbless, keep em wet and get em back quick, really enjoy the vids and if I ever make it back to NZ I'll definitely be looking you up.
Yes and No, you can fish all year round up to half way between the bridge and the dam. The upper reaches from halfway point (Marked with sign posts) to the dam, can only be fished from 1 Dec - 31 May.
Heaps of the spot x and a few others say that... real confusing for people new to the area. Your allowed from the mouth up to the sign marked spot about halfway up ( past the highway bridge)
I know people like to call big lake dwelling trout "steelhead"but damn it it's not a steelhead if it hasn't touched the salt. Stop falsely consoling yourselves that you caught a "steelhead"and just appreciate the fact they are big beautiful rainbow trout!
Haha im glad im not the only one to wimp out on that crossing! I gutted a 6lb hen with a huge guts that was full of big crunchy lumps after you mentioned they could be koura, but they were pieces of pumice about 20cent coin size. She was very red fleshed though, so i assume she ate pumice instead of koura while in the hine?
Haha, That was me 😁 and yes I was just spectating 👍 had been fishing down stream so thought I would say hi and watch the experts at it, but didn't expect to on the vid!
Wayne Naylor lol....oh shit i wasnt expecting to get a reply back from “ The guy standing on the bank in the back ground” Lmfao. Hell yeah. Im liken u NZ’ers more and more every time i watch yalls vids. They so great. Keep it up....
Totally missing the point. You can catch fish, and even see and take a pic (underwater GoPro style), without risking the fishes life. That way someone else can catch it again.
You can keep up to 6 trout per day but they must exceed 35 cm in length measured from tip of the nose to the dip in the fork of the tail. These guys believe in conserving the fish. Its debatable whether conservation is needed in these Taupo rivers which carry huge numbers of trout, but extra care is required on many remote wilderness rivers.
Yeah as melstar says. Heaps of trout in there and more probably need to be taken but I prefer not to kill fish I just like catching em. And it helps that I am an angel
There actually 12 ft leaders. But the indicator is set a little deeper the the depth fished. The hook removed is edited out because it’s a bit boring and rearly in frame. Also you assumptions make me assume your a knob.

Man, I miss New Zealand!!!! Can't wait to be able to travel again.
I thought there’s only two (2) of y’all Till I saw your onlooker downstream a bit He’s no doubt having as much fun as you guys!

Nice fish, what are you using as a indicator?
Super vid. Thanks. How is the knee Gareth?

What battery do you use for your GoPro to last all day or do you switch in multiple batteries?
What waders do you use?
I am asking because I see you every time going through jungle and they are holding up.
Simms freestones do the trick 🤙
Is that the Q rod, if it is what weight is it and which reel bud?
6wt and 4-6 reel👍
Good Lord Beautiful Bows🌈 and a Goregous river. You boys look like you are doing alright 👍 Tight Lines.

the scenery is truly amazing and hopefully the nature will always be maintained greetings from us Indonesia, the island of West Kalimantan

That was sick you guys are baddass fly fisherman such sweet fish on a regular basis it inspires me to keep throwing bugs ❤ it
What was that you mentioned about the lumps? Saying it might be eggs or kura? Never head of kura before
Koura is Maori name for freshwater crayfish. Native freshwater lobster species in New Zealand lakes and rivers
@@54joebloggs oh wow that's sweet thank you
Is the Hinemaiaia open above the road bridge all year round?
Yes and No, you can fish all year round up to half way between the bridge and the dam. The upper reaches from halfway point (Marked with sign posts) to the dam, can only be fished from 1 Dec - 31 May.
PukkaFactor , Dam , damn it!

Yes to the winter limit sign. 4th car park up from bridge
Damn with this Awesome Camerawork, great fishing, you always impress
Nice fish good job 👍🇨🇦 we get much larger steel heads in the Great Lakes . Thanks great video.. cheers

Great video!! Living the dream!!!
Thanks mate
Hey bro I live in the mount coming over to taupo where would you recommend to go ??
Hey what memory card do you use for ur gopro?
What place is this? Where is it? Very, very Top.
Taupo river
so much easier to see the line and indicator on the little river with the trees cutting the glare
Yeah definitely, it’s also short range stuff which helps
just what i needed my man
Thanks mate
Is regular fishing and fly fishing in the same season in nz
Moist Wam. Hi, Define “regular fishing”!
Piere Vojzola , I’m interested also.
Me too
Yes. Fly and "regular fishing" have the same season. There are area's which are restricted to fly fishing only though.
Generally same seasons but most of the river I fish are fly fishing only
hi guy . i want to khonw you rod number you use in this clip ? thank you.
Love the content! Do you mind telling me what weight you’re running ?
Got a 6lb out of that second section a few weeks ago 🤙
Yeah good fish in the river this year
Great video - well done
Thanks dude
Cheers on the great fishing bro. Question: I've seen you & Alex catch Rainbows and Browns, does NZ have a Cutthroat & Brook Trout population?
No post this week?
Missed last week. Dope video goes up tomorrow 🤙
Nice one man, catch up when it’s warmer
Yeah bro
Where’s this bro ?
Taupō river
Great vid as always bro. Who was the guy standing on the bank in the background? Just a spectator lol?

A mate who we bumped into
Keep the fish in the water. Don't touch it. Best two rules. Tight lines!
Better yet don’t even go fishing
Totally missing the point. You can catch fish, and even see and take a pic (underwater GoPro style), without risking the fishes life. That way someone else can catch it again.
@@TroutHuntingNZ Use a device like the Ketchum Release and you never have to touch the fish.
❓Anyone... ok I’ve been after trout for along time and Still don’t know how to tell the males from the females. Anybody know the Sure-Fire way?
Greta video👌 🙂🐟
Why do Kiwis hold the fish like a BANANA?
Sincere question.
It truly is all one needs.
Cheers
Our Rainbows are much more silver out of the big water. 🇨🇦👍
Love your videos man, i fly fish in montana. It's great up here
Cheers mate yeah Montana is epic! I’ll make it there one day for sure
I've been hearing some bad news about the brown trout fisheries in Montana is it as bad as the headlines say? How are the rainbows and cutties doing?
I swear that was R2-D2 at 1:07
Hahahahah I went and listened and I agree.
Good job
Cheers
Your steering wheel is on the wrong side homie lol
Yeah I must fix that
Trout Hunting NZ don’t ever change bro. NZ is a bucket list fly fishing destination for sure. For now I’m good living through you. Great vid!
Hope someday can join to fish togather...lol..
That would be good mate cheers
Do you guys just not have a bunch of 6 inch because thats all I ever catch 😂
Na not really most are above 2lb
Is it legal to keep them? Or are you guys angels?
You can keep up to 6 trout per day but they must exceed 35 cm in length measured from tip of the nose to the dip in the fork of the tail. These guys believe in conserving the fish.
