  • Joe Alves: Designing JAWS provides the production designer's view into the development of this world-renowned film.
Universal Studios' JAWS is one of the most compelling and enduring movies ever made. Thrilling generations of audiences worldwide with its tight plot, memorable characters, and ground-breaking special effects - those that brought the great white shark to terrifying life even after many said it couldn't be done. Buoyed by an energetic young director, Steven Spielberg, and through collaboration with trusted and equally determined production designer Joe Alves, the two proved integral to the making of this classic motion picture.
Painstakingly compiled and written by Joe Alves' biographer and JAWS expert, Dennis Prince, Joe Alves: Designing JAWS is a must-have addition to every film reference library.

I saw back in 1975 at age 9.5. I was obsessed with not only the movie, but the making of the movie as well. I would comb through book stores back in 1975 and in the years after, looking for books or magazines about Jaws or the making of Jaws, but basically finding nothing much at all. Then the Gottlieb and Blake books came out and I got both of those and loved them so much, especially the Gottlieb book. But I was dying to find a book like this one or the Memories of Martha's Vineyard book back then. ~46 years later, we have the Alves book, awesome. My dream of those Jaws books came through, just many decades later...
Great video, thanks for the flip through, very helpful....

Bought this essential on the back of one of your previous run throughs, but I've never took off that protective overlay to reveal that red shark embossed cover !
    Great book.

I know that remaking this film is out of the question. Just imagine if they did and they were able to use the more graphic scenes they were not allowed to use before. It would be phenomenal! I always find myself digging deeper into the story of Jaws and how it was made. I think to myself how awesome it would have been if they would have included this scene or that scene. The world may never know but it's nice to imagine so.

I'm trying to figure out what those yellow loose leaf pages are about starting at 3:38. I guess I'll find out when I get the book. Looks like a really nicely done book; it's good to see that they're putting out such quality books about Jaws these days.
