Speaking of The Brave Engineer, did you know that Casey Jones' 4-4-0 steam engine No. 2 is named Johnny?

I hear British and county class, my mind immediately pictures a 10,000 ton 8in armed cruiser.

14:09 Lol, that's exactly what I think about when someone mentions that name. I'd be like "The TMNT character or the famous railroad man Casey Jones?"

Hm... I know of another 2-8-0 numbered 638: the locomotive in Tyco's iconic "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" HO scale model train set. I wonder if the numbering of the locomotive was done as a tribute to Casey Jones...

The 10000 was more a 4-6-2-2 as the rear 2 pairs of wheels could move independently of each other.
The LNER also had 6 2-8-2 express locomotives but they proved to be to have a wheelbase too long for curves on the line between Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Funny thing drivers in the UK were originally called engineers. The trade union ASLEF or Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen is one of the main railway unions in the UK. The name changed ftom engineer to driver around 1880/1890.

@@bluestarproductions2033 well the rear 2 axles were independent of each other, so why can't it be called 4-6-2-2? The Whyte notation doesn't preclude this.

      @@neiloflongbeck5705 A. they weren't independent.
      B. Four numbers are used for articulated.

@@bluestarproductions2033 err yes they were only the 1st axle was carried in the Cartazzi truck and the 2nd was on a Bissel truck. That makes them independent. The articulation on this locomotive was on the trailing wheels. PS Your definition leaves out the rigid duplexes of the American railway.
