Chicagoan here 🙋🏼♀️ Bang Bang is everything! Great people, great food (and amazing pie ideas), and they are always with-the-cause as chicago is a progressive city💖 Much love for them!
I wouldn’t describe Chicago as a progressive city until very recently. It was more machine politics and classic midwestern dems. It’s still one of the most segregated cities in America.
Progressive makes me not want to support the business. I'm glad to support any business that doesn't inject politics into the business but if you're including it with your business then I'm judging you on your politics
I wish we had pies like that in Australia, because we follow the British most of our pies are meat based, and the sweet ones are usually very boring, and typically called "tarts"
well i've always wanted to have a treacle tart. i would love that homely, treacly, sweet, lemony taste :) have you had one and was my description of it correct? the only pie i remember eating is a store-bought lemon meringue pie is it was actually quite good and refreshing but i've always wanted to make my own
@SmellsLikeNirvanna Well, be thankful you have *_Lamingtons_* which are nearly impossible to find in the U.S. 😂 I had it in Sydney and a Lamington is now one of my top 10 all-time favorite cakes. 👍
Cynthia here it’s ok. It’s part of the boring “pies” I was talking about earlier. Australians do not tend to bake their own stuff anyway. Supermarket bought tends to be our culture. Don’t come here for the food lol.
I live in Australia and one of our favorites is lemon meringue pie. It is a lot like key lime pie but instead of lime, lemons R used and it has a soft meringue top.......I hope they make that one coz it's easy.
I know this video features sweet pies.. but am I the only one who likes savory pies more? Like chicken pot pie? Ahaha you guys should feature a place that serves good savory pies!!🥺😋
Pie tends to represent "the good things in life" - not champagne and caviar, but the *good things* about simple home cooking using common ingredients. There was a song during the depression, that went, "Just around the corner, there's a rainbow in the sky - so let's have another cup of coffee, and let's have another piece of pie!" Any average American could go to a diner (or the Automat) for a cup of coffee and a piece of pie. During the Depression, when nobody was expecting life to give them champagne and steak, people could still enjoy simple homemade treats. And a little later, during World War II, the troops were homesick, dreaming about Mom's home cooking, and hoping for a happier day. Because of the continuing pandemic, I'm tempted to bake a pie.
I like what the chef is saying "there's nothing pretentious about pie", I think it is key to their success (apart hipsterism) : it's simple, handmade and generous.

Chicago needs to be recognized as just as good of a food city as NY or LA
