  • Now. I'm not a screenwriter. Not a producer. Not a director. But I AM a complainer. Which is really the root of this video. I enjoyed season one of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney Plus. And now I want it to be better. So. Here's how I think they can make that happen, in no real particular order, and with no certainty that any of my ideas would even work. I just like em. Enjoy.

      And his interactions with Grover, I think that can be attributed to the whole "side plots" or whatever part. It was so cool and so fun.

    How To Improve The Series:
    1. Get rid of exposition dumps about the monsters and replace it with more action scenes. When the almost universally hated movies are being proclaimed as more fun than the series, then you know you screwed up.
    2. Bring back Sassy Badass Percy.
    3. Let Annabeth be the Wise Girl who's pride often leads her astray. Again - SHOW, don't TELL. Give her a character beyond "Percy's Love Interest" or "Cold, Rude Black Girl." She needs to be her own person complete with flaws and vulnerable traits.
    4. Let Grover get involved in the action rather than just have him hang out in the background asking when the fighting is over (with the sole exception of Sea of Monsters, obviously). He shouldn't be completely forgettable in the series.
    5. Stop trying to distract us from the show's flaws with "OOO, LOOK, PERCABETH MOMENT" because all you're doing is making the shippers more annoying than they already were.
    6. Hour long episodes. The LA ATLA did it, and no one complained about the run time as a result.
    7. Stop relying on fans to supply the background information about how this world works. Actually tell us that Percy's sword has a name or why Annabeth has a ring on her necklace or why Sally married Gabe in the first place.

      Shippers? Percabeth is cannon. In the Last Olympian, they officially get together. And in the sequel series, Heroes of Olympus, they're shown together as a couple.(Potential Spoilers: They go to Tartarus, not willingly) Also, now that setting up the world is done, they SHOULD lower the exposition. Hope they learn and do. Percy is sassy in this show, but not as much as the books. I agree, let's tune that up a little more. Grover was never a big fighter, and in book one it's kinda justified. Although in Battle of the Labyrinth and Last Olympian, they need to give him time to shine. Also, people did complain about ATLA. They had a longer run time, but they didn't use it properly. It matters on how they use it. Sea of Monsters is the shortest and least content filled book, so they either need to lower the runtime or keep it the same and add in some plots. And I agree with numero 7. There are millions of Percy Jackson fans, but not like Harry Potter. And besides, when you make a form of entertainment, you need to let your audience know things even if they're adapted.

    I agree with the points you made in this video. I definitely think they need to balance the darker themes with humour, such as watching the gods interact with the modern world and be a bit douchey. I also want to add that I definitely hope they better the action in season 2, as the action in season 1 felt underwhelming to me, although I can forgive that since they are still 12 year olds, so watching them progress in their fighting abilities would be nice to see.

      But Percy in the show is shown to be pretty good at fighting.
      He kills the Minotaur bare-handed. But even if we excuse that fight as beginner's luck and his strength being buffed by rain, he then goes on to successfully 1v3 Clarisse and friends during the Capture the Flag fight with 0 training and no water buff.
      Holding your own against multiple experienced demigods at once means you are pretty good at fighting. The show is a bit inconsistent on his skill level.

      @@-Sai yeah, you're right. It's clear that Percy is powerful (being one of the big three) but isn't able to utilise his strength consistently. So I hope that the show shows his progress over the series.

      To be honest I liked it. It wasn't very true to the books but it was fun to watch, even my grandma liked it. (And about the whole "Leah isn't a good annabeth because she's black!" I disagree for me as long as she acts like annabeth I like her

    • @yaswanthbollapu2852
      @yaswanthbollapu2852 Місяць тому

      @@-Sai Well... not exactly. See, Clarisse is strong in book one. But you can't compare her to the likes of a god like her dad, and apart from that and the minotaur and chimera fights, Percy doesn't actually have "Battles". Like back and forth battles. He kills Medusa in a one shot, kills Alecto in one shot with Medusa's head, in episode 6 just chases a Satyr(I think his names is Augustos) and tackles him, that isn't a battle. And then no more battles until Ares. Usually they're just running away or trick or one shot. What I mean, is that Percy beat the minotaur. Then he beat Clarisse and two other campers, who seem like your average demigod. Then he didn't have any battles until chimera and echidna, but he was poisoned to be fair(in the show, not book). And then he beat Ares barely. I mean, he just tried running and escaping mostly, and not engaging in combat. He is a kid after all, I don't think I would want to battle a fury even with a shiny sword. Especially when I have the head of medusa. Or battle a monster and fellow son of Poseidon. Instead, just have the help of invisible girl.

      He just didn't really have chances to show consistency, but as far as I'm concerned, he was pretty consistent. Plus, demigods usually have a surge in power at times, especially really powerful ones.

    I think it would help if the gods weren’t a bunch of famous people. It kind of takes out the immersion when I suddenly saw LMM as Hermès.
    Also the gods are being treated too harshly for the first season. This should be when we see them in the best light and they slowly get worse as the world is revealed.
    Also please bring the Persassy Humor™️ into the show. It is not Percy without the humor. Don’t be afraid to be goofy. PJ is literally known for its humor, so lean into it!
    Make the night/dark scenes brighter. The show shouldn’t be literally hard to watch. There were way too many times I was like, “Is that Percy, a stick, or someone not even important?” The scenes being so literally dark means we loose the set, the actors’ expressions, and any bit of visual storytelling.
    Also maybe have more improv? These kids have the perfect personalities for these roles and might even know their characters better than the writers, so letting them improv more might not be a bad idea… just saying.
    Don’t make meaningless changes like Percy missing the deadline. What was that??? Why was Hermès even at the Lotus Hotel? The whole St. Lious Arch thing, why couldn’t we go just because Annabeth likes architecture? Also the whole left in my heart because Hephaestus TV was left out will never be filled. The chair scene wasn’t even better!
    Lastly, we don’t need to be told everything. Show us! Don’t tell us Annabeth is scared of spiders, show us her seeing one and clinging onto Percy/Grover in fear. Don’t overexplain the monsters before we even see them in situations where it wouldn’t make sense for Percy/Annabeth to know! Actually stop doing that all together please. Why would Percy monologue the monster’s story to the monster itself?!? WHY?!??

    Kronos is not "the devil you don't know"
    Before Zeus overthrew Kronos he reportedly only kept humans like cattle and ate them.

      That's not what he meant, it's just to those who've just come across the series or JUST started reading the books, you don't know how bad Kronos is. Especially in the show. He just looks creepy, though hasn't done anything major besides manipulating Luke. Also, I like how in the show, they made Luke not want to kill Percy. It makes a lot more sense that he'd want to recruit him, since Percy is powerful and also knows the gods are pretty bad. And Luke's smart. Unlike the book.

    @seanp2871 27 днів тому +1

    I mostly agree with the points that you made, but at the same time...I think the gods being mostly absent and then us being told they're important is sort of the point. That is the demigod experience: they're told to worship their parents, but those parents aren't around, don't interact with them, and generally screw up their lives. They don't know what the gods are doing, which means they can be doing anything (and likely aren't paying attention to their kids most of the time).
    If we see what the gods are doing, if we watch them looking in and being invested in the quests, the story loses some of that justifiable frustration. After all, the gods can't directly get involved, but if we see them doing what they can when they can, then the demigods' very justified feelings of abandonment will seem...weaker. Almost pettier. Take Percy. In book two, he spends all his time being really frustrated that Poseidon sent Tyson to camp without saying anything to him, and he feels like his dad is ignoring him the whole time. Now, if we pair that with scenes of Poseidon working behind the scenes to make his quest easier, then suddenly Percy's going to look ungrateful. Poseidon is helping; he just can't see it. It would diminish the sense of abandonment that permeates the demigods' stories.
    Now, that's not to say we can't have anything from the gods. I loved the scene of Hermes taking Medusa's head to Olympus because it gave us a glimpse of what the gods' days are like. Or even the scene where Percy meets the Nereid and she says that Poseidon wanted to meet him, but the time limit ran out and he had to leave. Second-hand information about what they're doing or seemingly unrelated scenes that don't directly pertain to the story at hand (I would love council scenes where the gods are just bickering while something important is going on just to really show how dismissive they are of demigod problems) would be great ways to include the gods, but getting them too involved would really defeat the real message the story is saying about their absence.

      No original material is super perfect, and no adaptation is super perfect. HP and LOTR got the good side, but even they faced criticism. And I respect your opinion that you may not like it, though they definitely put effort, unlike most Disney things nowadays(looking at you, Marvel and Star Wars). I wouldn't call it amateurish, but rather your average school project. Definitely can be improved on, and if the classmates and teacher give input on how to do that, and the student listens and tries harder, it will be better.

    Have you heard that there’s a new book to the first series, it was released last year, called the god’s chalice or something like that, reckon it’s just a cash grab for the Disney series???

    • @yaswanthbollapu2852
      @yaswanthbollapu2852 Місяць тому +9

      No it isn't, it was made by the author in honor of the actor's he chosen, to encourage them not to be disheartened by toxic people saying they're not good for the roles. Also, people have wanted a 6th book for a long time, and we're getting a trilogy now. A trilogy with an actual story, but this time, the world isn't ending. Percy is just trying to get into college. And the first part "Chalice of the Gods" was very fun. This September, PJO 7 will come titled "Wrath of the Triple Goddess". 2025 is when the last one releases apparently. And there's gonna be Hecate. And disney cannot force Riordan to write the books just because they are published under disney hyperion. So no, it isn't a cash grab, it's made with soul and purpose, and is not tied to series as promoting it or anything else. If anything, it's trying to be it's own story, honor the previous 5 books, and honor the show and the people working on it. So don't just assume whatever you want, and read it first before you say something.

    The only thing they can improve is recast the characters(besides the actor who plays Percy, he needs to dye his hair black) to find the actors who look as similar as possible to the characters, it’ll be great if the actors could play the characters better than the original actors, and stop telling everything without showing anything that needs to be showed on the show, it’s called a SHOW for a reason.
