  • This is a video of my 2004 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG 0-160MPH run on a CLOSED ROAD, 1 mile in length. Action starts at 1:27 if you're impatient. :) It get's a bit dicey at the end when I'm trying to brake but I think you'll find the power of, "The Beast" pretty impressive. (I am biased obviously). I go from 0 MPH to 160 MPH back down to 0 mph in 1 mile. (Could this be a world record?) :) #amg #mercedes #mercedesbenz

    140 MPH quarter-mile trap speed on a rear wheel drive 4 door sedan with standard tires on the street (vs. a prepped dragstrip) is not too shabby, even by today’s stand standards. 😎👊

      @@ernestocastellanos6446 BMW didn’t say fuck you with the E60 M5. It had a naturally aspirated 5.0L V10 w/ 500 HP… the W211 E55 had a supercharged 5.4L V8 w/ 493 HP. They claimed it had 469HP but it actually had 493 I’ve dyno’d E55’s. The E60 was actually slower than the E55 in top speed, 0-60, 1/4mi, and had a lot less torque. Only thing it had on the E55 was 7 more horses.
      But they were extremely close, they were also direct rivals. The BMW had massive mechanical issues and was a huge money pit, the E55 had a lot of air suspension problems, and the supercharger would heat soak after a few pulls.
      Personally I think the E60 M5 is cooler just because it had a 5.0L V10 500 HP. The thing had nearly a 9,000 RPM redline and a naturally aspirated V10. It’s glorious. I think if the E55 had supercharger whine it’d be just as cool, but you can’t hear the supercharger. So it’s like a V8 vs a V10 when you hit the gas. Obviously the V10 sounds better and is more addicting to smash the gas petal. Especially considering it revs much higher.
      But if the E55 had supercharger whine it’d be just as addicting, but the exhaust is really quiet and muted, and so is the supercharger.

    Without the limiter I have. O doubt this puppy with enough quality road would hit 190-200 mph there is not a second of hesitation to it's limiter at 155 mph. This thing is a mad beast. Slap a quality tune on it after a couple of quality modifications and this will sleep just about everything. Without going into too much detail mods include, 180mm pulley, tune, headers, upgraded heat exchanger and a few other, "Nick nacks." My car is not fully modded out but just some of staight forward ones. If I wanted to go crazy I could put in another $3K of mods and it would be even faster if you can believe that. However my car is, "Fast enough" for me so I'll keep it as is.
    Thanks!
    Alex

  • @alextaylor29
    @alextaylor29  12 років тому

    Also the stock mufflers are good for 700+ HP so no need to change them out unless you want to to sound louder. For Mods, tackling it from three sides 1) More Air In, 2) More Air out, 3) More fuel in. Sequentially focus first on more air in (it's a superchanged motor remember) so this is the pulley and tune then on more air out (headers) and finally more fuel in (upgraded injectors) to even things out.
    There are a few other mods not listed here, but this is the bulk of them I'd recommend!

      Yes that box is checked LOL. For what it's worth I had upgraded the pads to EBC red stuff and put in Motul 660 brake fluid which has a much higher boiling point and it all worked out. The next morning when I came and looked at the car, the front rotors were black due to the kinetic energy turning into heat. Energy never disappears of course it simply changes form. I went from ~160MPH to 0 MPH in .3 of a mile and remember the car with me in it weighs 4,500 lbs. AMG brakes are amazing.

    I just picked up one of these. At the end of the video it looks like you were at a fork in the road that led into a ditch. Looks like you had *just enough time, and braking power to stop the car* that’s what those eight piston brembos up front are for.

    • @alextaylor29
      @alextaylor29  3 роки тому

      You are completely correct. It has 6 piston brembos up front and 4 out back. I replaced the pads with EBC Yellow Stuff along with Motul 660 brake fluid which has a much higher boiling point. What most people don't know is the E55 was the first car ever with, "Brake by wire" and MB invented anti-lock brakes. And yes if I went 20 more feet I would have hit that telephone pole which would have been a bad day. :) That box is checked! :)

      Yes, I sold it back in 2012. It had just had 100,000 miles and the extended warranty for 100,000 miles which covered over $20,000 of upgrades and repairs was expiring so I figured it’s time to look for something new. It was a wonderful wonderful car it’s probably here somewhere in Scottsdale, Arizona.
      Best car I have owned.

      Likely in the low 4 second range per the video (but I had traction control on for safety) so likely

    Yep totally get it. Buy an extended warranty with the car and you'll never worry a day again. You take it to the dealer for any/all repairs and it's covered. They'll even give you a free MB loaner car (usually a C300/C350) to boot. Always get an extended warranty with an E55.
    My $.02.

    Sorry I should have clarified. So buy your AMG's from CarMax so you can get their awesome extended warranties for a great price. For my parts/tune, yes I go exclusively through Eurocharged. They have fantastic prices on parts, tunes and the coolest part is they can tune you remotely and all their re-tunes are FREE! So if you plan on modding your car go with Eurcharged as you'll need/want a re-tune after a major mod and they do it remotely for free. The video is proof of their tunes! :)

    AMG's don't have logos on the hood, at least not the 2004 model year. On that point all 2004 E55 AMG's, sold in the states had a speedo that went to 160MPH. (200 MPH was added in 2006+ models and beyond.) Morever if you look at my tachometer , it clearly says V8 Kompressor which if course refers to the supercharged 5.5L motor.
    Feel free to research or just as your brother, he'll know. :)

    the hellcat twins do the standing mile in 38 seconds at 186 and they'll get back to zero in less than a tenth of a mile and that's a pretty sloppy car. for the year this car is a straight line monster but not shattering any glass ceilings :)

    • @alextaylor29
      @alextaylor29  7 років тому +7

      Yep I hear you. Just keep in mind this is/was a 2004 E55 and the Hellcat is of course a 2015 - 2016 so one could say the E55 was 10 years ahead of it's time. :) There will always of course be something faster.

      @TheVdog12 7 років тому

      +Alex Taylor oh I agree definitely I'm looking for a 04-06 e55 right now myself would much rather have it than anything new short of a c63 but I'm not the 6 figure car kind of guy lol.

    • @AMGmeister
      @AMGmeister 7 років тому +6

      The E55 was more of a game changer in 2003 than the hellcat is in 2015-2016 Nothing could even come close at the time.

    • @TheVdog12
      @TheVdog12 7 років тому

      +AMGmeister Corvette z06? Porsche 911 turbo s? i mean even the cayenne turbo s was pretty close to the e55. i know it's comparing apples to oranges but the hell cat is the only 700+ horsepower car you can buy for under 70k. with drag radials people are getting into the high tens in the quarter mile. there isn't a new car you can buy that's high tens in the quarter with just a tire. the hurricane Audi v10+ corvette z06 911 turbo those cars are all over 100k and the hell cat can hold its own. the m5 wasn't a strong competitor in a straight line but it was damn close and was a much better driving car than the e55. not to mention there were cheaper cars at the time you could buy that were just as fast.

    • @AMGmeister
      @AMGmeister 7 років тому

      Well the e55 held its own back in the day. You have to remember that the zo6 only had 385 hp. Dodge viper srt-10 basically had the same straight line performance but cost a similar price. Considering the e55 is a big 4dr sedan that's pretty impressive. Hellcat is basically doing the same thing now except the competition is so close from cts-v and e63.

  • @alextaylor29
    @alextaylor29  11 років тому

    It basically comes down to MB & AMG's have many more part and are more complex (but the driving experience is awesome) compared to a domestic. So nothing catastrophically when wrong, but standard stuff, air suspension (eventually goes out), had to replace the supercharger bearings things like that. Again get the extended warranty and you are covered.

    Wow thing really is fast, if you had applied the throttle a little more gently you could have built power faster, but just note the traction control is hitting all through 1st and 2nd gear, it's only when it hit's 3rd over 80mph that the motor can unleash it's full power, in essence the wheels are holding maximum traction all the way up to 130mph, and they car is not letting up right to 160. In truth the car can go 200 and is just limited, but that impressive to have that much high speed acceleration.

    • @alextaylor29
      @alextaylor29  4 роки тому

      Yes agreed certainly not a perfect run (and on stock tires as well) so still had some speed in there.

  • @JSAFIXIT

    Would be interesting what it would do on a full mile pull. These cars are just beasts. Really easy to extract more power from them too.

    • @alextaylor1122
      @alextaylor1122 6 років тому

      yes likely 200 MPH is possible. Keep in mind the E55 had a great drag coefficient I believe .26 or .27 which is very, "Slippery" making it a great high speed car.

  • @alextaylor29
    @alextaylor29  11 років тому

    I get 21 MPG in blended city and hwy so it's not that bad actually. It requires 91 octane so be aware of that.

    I'd recommend you have a shop do it (that's what I did) as there are some specialized tools needed. I did the lower pulley, not the upper pulley which I believe is harder/more complex to do.

      Lol no! I live by a state park and basically it's a straight road into the park. At night, they close it, (close the gate, the park, and everything.) So for this run I just drove up to the gate, turned around and dropped the hammer on the road going away from/out of the park if that makes sense. This way If I overshot or something went wrong I wouldn't run INTO the closed gate. So on my word, the road was closed I promise.

    hi alex, i´m from Germany (23years) and i want to buy me a 03 or 04 e55,i sold my alpinwhite 2000 bmw 540i zhp (manuel,324hp) last week,so i have a few questions to you...was your amg stock in this Video?it accelerates veryyyyy fast,i stopped 0-120 in 13.24 sec with my smart fone.and do you think that the engine loose power when it has 125000 miles on the speedometer? :)

    • @alextaylor29
      @alextaylor29  10 років тому +1

      It was not stock. I had a tune, pulley, headers and a bigger heat exchanger and it probably was 650HP and 700 ft/lb of torque at the time. For mileage, don't worry, as long as the car was maintained properly these cars are bullet proof. My $.02.
