We just made two today with my 9 year old stunning, little grand daughter, who I'm teaching to crochet. This was her first time with the HDC, Triple and drop stitch. She also learnt to change colours with you. Thank you so much for this tutorial. We are now going to go ahead and make the chicken! Love from Australia! 😘😘😘
So awesome to hear!! Yay! What a joy it is to crochet with your granddaughter. That's wonderful quality time together. Smart girl for being abl eto do all these new stitches too!
@@SweetSofties Yes, It's amazing! And you're right, it's great quality time. When she grows up, she can teach her kids something that her Yiayia (grandmother) taught her. We need to make sure that this art form doesn't die out! You are doing your part! Thanks again! 🙋♀ Oh and by the way, I'm back again to make a chicken for myself! So cute!
I'm so happy for you! To have a daughter or granddaughter to share crochet with, is truly a blessing. My mother taught me anni wanted to pass that down to my daughter but she has no interest in it.😢
@@SilentNoMore64 oh so sad. Maybe you can find something else that you can share? Hopefully your daughter might one day have a daughter and you can teach crochet to your grand daughter
Thanks so much for this! I'm about to start my second one now with the aim of creating my first chicken! It's pretty easy to follow, but it would be really helpful to have a stitch count at the end of each round. Even without that, though, mine seems to have turned out well. 💙
I made 2 last night while sick in bed. TWO!!! Yay me. lol. My colors are not lovely like yours, but that’s bc I test all my learning patterns out with cheap Walmart yarn in wild colors to keep me awake. lol. Thx for the video. I wanna make the chickens now.
Such beautiful colors that you have chosen . Thank you for showing us what wonderful talent you have ❤ i will be watching more of your creations in crocheting .
Just found your channel today and I’m hooked (pun intended). Your voice is calming and this video is easy to follow. Thank you SO much for including the brand and name of the yarn. That information makes it so much easier to track down the exact yarn or a similar yarn if needed. I wish everyone did that. Great job
Hi, Thank you sooooo much for making a tutorial i could finally understand. I used the tutorial to make a coaster for a art sale. Once again thank you. Love from nepal:)
Such a pretty square! I love them. The colour possibilities are endless! P.S. My Get-A-Hug bear arrived this morning! So adorable and so very well made. He has been named Hugo :)
So glad you like this design, and how exciting that your sweet bear arrived today!! Hugo seems like a very fitting name for a bear you're going to hug a lot!
I messed up 😂 I kept seeing x7 thinking "Total of 7" then towards the end of the video you say 8 petals 😮 uh oh 😅 Oh well, now I know next time. It still worked out, I just added a few stitches throughout and it's not too bad 😎👍 I will make two more (the right way) and move on to the video with the lil chickens you make with them.... Can't wait 😁 thanks for the video!
Hi. Hopefully you have already figured it out. But if not and I understand your question, I kinda looked at the drop stitch as an extra stitch. She goes back under it to make the first single crochet of the 5 . The single crochets are on top of the double crochets of the row before. Hope that made sense and helped. Good luck
I had the exact same problem! Where we went wrong is in the previous round, round 4, she not only does the drop stitch below but also does a single crochet in that same stich. So first you are working under the stitch to make the drop stitch, then you remain at that same stitch to single crochet tthis time hrough the stitch as you normally would! This way you end up with 5 single crochets inbetween the drop stitches!
Am I correct that by the end, because the ch3 at the start of the final round "doesn't count," then the last side you stitch has 17 dc between the corner ch1 spaces, while the other 3 sides only have 16? I'm a bit confused on how these are going to stitch together since the sides are not all the same. (I'm making the chicken)
You join with a sl st to the first Dc so the chain isn’t part of the stitch count; your join will go over the chain. That makes the sides equal stitches 😊
Hi I was wondering if I can sell the chicken when its made ? If i can how do I credit you? I'm out of ideas for things to make for my craft show and this is so cool!!
It is too fast to work along with her and keep up, but I merely pause the video until I catch up. An alternative is, as another person replied, you can change the playback speed in your settings. I don’t personally like doing that, though, as I find it aggravating listening to the person’s voice slowed down.

I did mine by starting with a magic circle, eliminates the concern of keeping the middle small.

Love the fact that you show the mistakes and how to fix them. We all make mistakes..
Haha, thank you! I'm glad you're fine with them and so understanding!
I like that you put the pattern directions at the bottom of each section.

Sorry for the confusion! Excite dfor you to make your chickens!!
Really enjoyed your video❤❤❤
They look amazing! Do you remember which colours you used? I love the colour palette.
Thank you!! I'm so sorry I don't know the exact colors but this is the type of yarn adn the colors are all on this page: hobbii.com/friends-cotton-8-8
Beautiful! What size hook with an acrylic yarn to make it a 5x5? Thanks! 💕💕
I'm not exactly sure (maybe 5mm?), but I'd recommend using bulkier yarn as well!
I taught my daughter and my son to crochet. Now that i have 2 grandsons, I taught bith of them to crochet as well.
So wonderful! What a great teacher you are!
Can u provide a stitch count at the end of each round? I've got to round 5 and don't have enough stitches. My square is wonky.....
Can i use the magic circle for the beginning?
That’s what I did. It’s always my preference.
Yes!
Great pattern, could I use a fine 4 ply yarn and size down my hook? Any idea what size hook I would need? Trying to use some of my stash!
Not sure about size hook but the goal is to crochet without big gaps between your stitches! Might have to trial and error a bit!
I used a 1.75 hook and it worked great! 😃
@@sarahboyland882 yay glad to hear it!!
Great tutorial. However I find the hole where you place the eye in the chicken is too large in the eye will go right straight through??
You can try adding cloth underneath the granny square (poke a hole in the cloth for the safety eye) and it'll help the eye stay secure!
How did you get 5 single crochets between the drop stitch I’ve tried so many times and I don’t understand
Hi. Hopefully you have already figured it out. But if not and I understand your question, I kinda looked at the drop stitch as an extra stitch. How do you like the hobbit yarn was thinking to order that cotton bit not sure if it feels the same as sugar and cream
I like Hobbii Friends cotton! I can't remember how exactly sugar n' cream feels, but I'd say they're probably pretty comparable.

@@SweetSofties Ah, ok - So it has an extra "post" but not an extra stitch on the top. Got it! Thank you SO MUCH for replying so quickly! 💞
@@MicheleForce yes, correct! You explained it better than me!
How many DC on the side on a finished project?
If I want to make this bigger, and I opt to single crochet around, can you tell me how to do the corners, please.
I'm not exactly sure as I'll have to try it out, but it might work to do the corners as:
sc 2, ch 2, sc 2
all in the same corner gap.
@@SweetSofties I’ll try that. Worst that can happen is it won’t look right and I can rip it out, but it sounds like it should work. Thanks!

At 9:07 you say two chains, but mean one chain, I think.
I’m in the middle of crocheting and it’s curling up. Is this normal? Yours isn’t coming out that way.
It might be because your tension is too tight! You can either try to crochet more loosely or use a larger hook.
Love the pattern, but I found the hand constantly coming at the screen very annoying, but a very pretty square indeed
I lost the link to make this into a chicken
Here it is! :) ua-cam.com/video/DX59eXCGG3k/v-deo.html
Why is this so hard, is tutorial too fast for anyone else?I kept going back over and over🤦🏻♀️
It is a bit fast I think you can change the settings for playback

An alternative is, as another person replied, you can change the playback speed in your settings. I don’t personally like doing that, though, as I find it aggravating listening to the person’s voice slowed down.
Maybe a better quality yarn would have been a better choice.
Thanks for the tip!
I wish you would go slower...😢
