This video was a revelation. To do the foundation stitch with the tail is something I had never seen before, and the thermal stitch is just great, so useful. The strap I made looks really good. You explain it really well - thanks for this video!
Over the years I have ruined tops from the metal buttons on my shorts or trousers. The metal buttons under my tops rub on the worktop. I have made myself a belt using your thermal stitch. No more ruined clothes.
Thank you, Natalia! I have long been an admirer of your bags on Ravelry but never really ventured into bag territory myself until now. Your excellent and clear instructions for thermal stitch will get me closer to the type of refinement to which I aspire in bag construction. I also love the bag strap slit video! Great way to reach a polished finish.
The foundation cord blew my mind lol. I just started crocheting and I am finishing up a diagonal basket weave water bottle holder which may get quite heavy when full. I’m going to try this!
You are such a good teacher! This was very easy to follow. I could see every stitch and its formation. Your instructions were simple and complete. Thank you so much.
I don't know if one person can be credited with this stitch. I came up with it on my own many years ago. I thought I had invented it, but I found that it had already been used by others. At the time, none of the books or magazines I had showed the stitch. Now you can find it in books. It's a great stitch. I've used it many times over the years. Two things I found is that if you make straps as you do in this video, the strap has a lot of stretch in it. If you stitch more tightly, using a smaller hook than normal, there is less stretch. Also, this makes for a more durable strap. Another thing is that if you stitch the strap going vertically instead of horizontally as you do in the video, there is very little stretch. You simply start with a chain the lengths of the strap you want to make and then stitch your rows until you reach the width that you desire.
Just remember that if you do it by chaining the length of the strap, unless you use a sc foundation chain, it’s going to dig into your shoulder if you put anything heavy in your bag!
@@hayleycraig7250 That's good to know. Thanks. I think that is less of a problem if you crochet the entire strap more tightly than you would for afghans or wearables.
When a solution is needed people will solve it individually without each other knowing. 😊 Thanks for the tips and letting us know it's strong strap. I hate cords that dig into shoulders this stitch solves both problems.
Oh! Wow I’ve never seen the foundation stitch done over the tail before. Thank you. It looks easier than how I was doing it. Good to know both ways though! 😁 Edit: Ah it’s a foundation cord not a foundation row. This is going to solve an issue I was trying to figure out yesterday. Perfect. ♥️
I used this on several purses. It’s great cause it stretches without loosing shape. I remember seeing the thermal stitch years ago, but didn’t realize that’s what I was doing! It was trial by error. Thanks I was looking for this because it can be very warm. It’s a bit dense and stiff. I wonder if there is a way to keep the warmth and texture while having a little more give. Is there a dc thermal stitch? I just found it. Thanks!!
I am new to crochet and really excited to give this a try, as it is exactly the finished look of what I need for my project. Could you share what needle size you used with the Schweppes Whirlette yarn (the grey one, if I got that right)? Thank you!!
does anyone know how to keep the sides straight? mine have the previous chain 1 at each end jutting out at the sides and idk how to stop it from happening

that's so smart! I have the same problem! how do you close it though? doing a knot would probably make it quite chonky and too big?
Same. Best one. Thank you!!!

The foundation stitch reminds me of the foundation stitch of knitting but with more substance.
thats exactly what I thought when I saw it. the tail end cast on when knitting@@BandE2018
Very great stitch! I was going to make some straps so this is perfect timing!
Oh my goodness, that foundation cord blew my mind 😍
Going to try this on a back pack mesh bag I'm making. I think this is really going to work perfectly. Thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial. I made a strap with this stitch and it looks so good. So well explained.
Thanks for posting this video -- VERY well shown, and very much appreciated, since some of us have trouble with words...
Absolutely brilliant, thank you very much!🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for your excellent tutorial I am making a bag now and I hate to use other materials for the handles this stitch is perfect
Excellent tutorial. Thank you 🙏
Awesome video!! I’ll try this to use with the bags I make from recycled jeans. Thanks for sharing your work ❤
Excellent tutorial. Thank you for the tips and advice at the beginning. Now, how do we attach a metal belt fastener to make it into a belt
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the very well instructed video!
Gonna use this for the straps and also the bottom and sides of my granny square tote bag

This is what I needed and was looking for. Great video!
Thanks! 😊
Thank you for sharing. Excellent explanation.
Excellent tutorial, Thanks
this is exactly what i was looking for! what size hook are you using with the home dec demo?
Благодарю Вас, очень доступно обьясняете - всё понятно

Very best description I've seen ! Thanks!
Excellent. This one is a first for me. Thank you for instructional video. Very, very helpful.
really clear thanks for the share liked and subscribed
Brilliant, thank you!
Very helpful! Thank you!
If i make a wider strap should i crochet 16 foundation stitches?? Pls reply
Thenkyu so much more blesiing
Is there a way to make an increase with this stitch
How would we attach this to a bag ? Like what stitch would be strong enough
Same question. Did you figure it out? All the other videos I've seen suggest just sewing it onto the bag..
@@alexis.george I eventually ended up sewing it but like on the Inside of the bag and deep down so it wouldn’t pull and last long. And so far it has
What type of yarn was used in the tutorial?
What size hook did you use ?!?!
What kind of yarn that you use?
it kept getting smaller and smaller. tried redoing it a few times zooming on the video, slowing down, but happened all the same. idk kms
You probably forget to do 1 chain each time you are starting a row for example here 3:46 use that and see what happens
Is this good to sew onto other fabrics or should this only be used for a crocheted bag?
I believe it should be fine for other bags too as long as the colour matches.
how would you count the rows? row 1 is on one side & row 2 is on the other?
does anyone know how to keep the sides straight? mine have the previous chain 1 at each end jutting out at the sides and idk how to stop it from happening
Please show how tabs are made on bag
Can i use acrylic yarn?
So perfect 👌👌
Uhm after the last row..then what? Do sigle stitches again? It's so unclear someone helppp
after the last row you’re done. so keep doing the single crochet’s until it’s at your desired length, then you do the last row
Wow muy lindo 👍 pero avanza muy lento
Süper 👍
