Art is everywhere! Downtown galleries and museums. Get a library card and you can get free passes to most of these museums and galleries. Off the beaten path: Check out the towns of Madrid and Cerrillos (Blackbird Saloon in Cerrillos) For nice cocktails and atmosphere: La Reina bar and Loretto Lounge in downtown. There are so many other places but these are just some of my favorite!

Juneau Alaska is also expensive and unique in its own way. We are a small town with about 30k people and we are landlocked (meaning, we are not connected by road and the only way in is by plane or ferry). With this, housing is very tight and competitive. The great thing is that jobs pay well and you can make a decent living.
I went to the Summer Classics program at St. John’s College for two summers. SJC’s unique program in studying the Great Books is an important, unique opportunity in Santa Fe.
I’d hesitate to recommend that people move here and expect to be able to make enough money to pay rent working in the service industry. I’ve been living and working in Santa Fe service industry for two years just barely scraping by financially, and I live in a camper so my rent is cheaper than average. There’s a plethora of low paying service industry jobs in Santa Fe, and those are the ones that employers complain they can’t find enough workers for.

Thanks for this review. Where do you find apartments in Santa Fe for the prices you mentioned? Is this online at apartment sites, or do you have to drive around and look for signs? I've been looking online and found the average 1-bedroom apartment to be about $1600 or more.
unfortunately, it has become more expensive here. But! There still are casitas and other homes that locals rent who still offer cheaper rent. You have to find those people by word of mouth and local listings.
My wife and I were just in Santa Fe this past week on vacation. I absolutely loved it. While I can't see us moving there, mostly due to kids and potential grandkids, I am going to check into possible monthly rentals. I would love to spend maybe one month a year out there and use it has a base to explore the west. Currently we have to cross the plains to get out west and it's pretty prohibitive on how often we do it.
My family has lived in New Mexico for 67 years. I used to work as a roving security officer. The one thing that I found was you don't want to be out at night because it's not pretty. I was all over Santa Fe from downtown to everywhere else.
I live in Monterey and have been thinking of moving to Santa Fe!!! Question, how the hell do you promote yourself in order to find a job out there because so far I haven’t had any luck 🫤
What's your thoughts on the communities between ABQ and Santa Fe? How are the Indian casinos as entertainment? What's the water supply situation? Appreciated.
Thank you for this video :) I am living in Taos right now and did live in Albuquerque for about 3 1/2 years. I hated it and went back to Taos. I do however, have an opportunity to move to Santa fe soon and was hoping to get some good info on living there.
Santa Fe is safer than Albuquerque. Has better restaurants, smaller city. The Downtown is cooler. Closer to better skiing. My smaller town is similar to Santa Fe south of Albuquerque. You have too carry in Albuquerque, they have out of control criminals. Otherwise it is not a bad city. Entertainment is complicated out here. I was in southern Utah in June , middle of nowhere, for most people. Stumbled into Jimmy Buffet doing a concert that night in a field out there. Super cool, I spent five minutes talking to Jimmy while we waited at the outdoor coffee shop. Premo coffee too. People were driving in from Salt Lake City all day. A couple weeks later he was gone on to the Happy Music Stage in the sky. RIP to a guy we could all love. Mountain West has always been a cool spot running into cool but well known people. Don't make a big deal out of it. They are not here for bullcrap but to enjoy life same as everyone else here. Have a coffee in the morning and sometimes a beer at night. Lots of backyard fire pits and they get used with friends and relatives, nights are crystal clear and you can see the stars. I have had great experiences in Santa Fe getting aquainted with some of the peope that show their wares for sale on the Palace of the Governors sidewalk. I visited them over the years and got to know some wonderful people that live in the Reservation communities. Been invited to dances, feasts and to visit. Went and met more good people made more friends. Be a friend and you will make plenty in New Mexico.
I'm from Oregon, but all our family still lives in New Mexico where my parents were born and raised. Most of my family lives in Chama, but I remember going to visit them in Santa Fe and thinking it was such a beautiful place and so big compared to Chama lol
I'm trying to leave Denver like you did but for other reasons. Denver is a fentanyl haven and homeless have moved in, in large numbers. Larimer and 16th isn't what it use to be all at. I want to move to a safer place that doesn't have 6 months of winter.
All these city’s have been ruined by mentally deranged, power hungry liberals. If you guys keep voting for these people the city’s you live in will continue to crumble.
U described a lot and were pretty thorough, but U mentioned Alberqurque is dry, but u didn’t describe Santa Fe. Is Santa Fe’ humid? R there a lot of bugs or snakes? What animals or bugs would we have to look out for there? Scorpions? Most of everything sounds pretty good. Thanks 🌝
Would love to know where your renting because as a born and raised in Santa Fe nm the cost of living is absolutely ridiculous making it hard for the locals to continue to live in Santa Fe, I know a lot of apartments are charging two thousand dollars a month in Santa fe
Soon? The old Spanish families have continued to be forced out over the last 20 years. What SF was 20 years ago is not what SF is now or will be in the future.
The only people who can really afford to live in Santa Fe comfortably, are Los Alamos Lab staffers, and wealthy old money families. There are two very distinct societies: the people who live to serve the wealthy, and the wealthy who enjoy being served.
I am looking at moving to Santa Fe. I am a writer and aspiring musician(for fun not profit). Finding a nice apartment with reasonable rent and employment is quite a task. But I won’t know until I visit the city.
Rental cost for apartments may be comparable to Albuquerque. But to buy a house in Santa Fe is excessively expensive in comparison. 😅 it is desirable to live there. It is about 1/5 the size of ABQ.
I have not! But I did see a car get broken into at a hiking spot within city limits. I don't know if it's just because the weather is getting warmer and there are more homeless people around. It was sad.
@@NoraCazares Yikes. Another challenge that seasonal homeowners have is break-ins while they’re away. I’m not here to point out the negative lol I’ve been there and I actually love it. For some reason, the wind is always blowing in Santa Fe, and it becomes kind of frustrating like having a blow dryer pointed at you all the time lol . Unless that’s a seasonal thing?
@@onedirection3510 I agree! I still love it here. Yes, the wind is a problem. It blew so hard last week that it was carrying debris onto I25. I ended up getting a flat tire because it blew some metal/random nails onto the highway! 😬
@@NoraCazares Wow that’s really bad. I guess you’ve had a few bad hair days 😆. I’ve discovered some places are best visited frequently or occasionally as opposed to relocating. It’s smart to explore and experience first.
My love lives there, but has changed her age, and is 10 years younger now than when we were together. She asked me to marry her at one time, but now she doesn’t admit ever knowing me, and that I’m confusing, her with an older person. I really loved her too, but I would never have been enough for her. Glad she grew younger and is happy now, and it worked out for her. She crushed my heart though, and I would forgive her in a heartbeat today, just to have a conversation with her. Nothing more, just a conversation! 💔
Ahhhh, Santa Fe. “ the city different!” It’s called that for a reason. It, and northern NM is different than the NM below Albuquerque part. Even the food is/ has got a different twang to it. ( your red Chile is a darker red than lower NM. Kind of a bitter taste) But that’s northern NM. Terrain and geography is much different also. Have lived in Albuquerque since 1958 ( except for 4 years in the service) and have never quite gotten used to Santa Fe people. Definitely two classes of people. Wealthy and snobbish then the rest of you. BIG distinction. The weather IS much cooler there and is much more wet. They also get more snow ( higher elevation there) plus all up north. It’s expensive to live in Santa Fe. Always has been, I’m guessing always will be. Many celebrities live in northern Santa Fe proper. Housing is tight everywhere, not just Abq, or SF. Just remember, two classes of people. Not a bad or good thing. It just is.
I moved to ABQ in 2019 and it was so different than what it is now! I definitely prefer Santa Fe; higher pay, less traffic, more community, art, the food! The beer, people are so nice and the weather to name just a few. But! housing is very competitive...ABQ these days has higher rent but more housing, more traffic, more homeless/crime, more of a traditional nightlife, and more restaurants and businesses have opened up. Santa Fe reminds of a much better Boulder, lol. Very historic, diverse, the food and beer is amazing, cheaper, still has its unique industries, etc. I'll be making more videos on living here! 😉
@@NoraCazares Thank you Nora! New Mexico never fails to disappoint me. After going to the Gathering of the Nations last week, it made me realize how much I love New Mexico and the culture.
The Policemen from Santa Fe commute to Rio Rancho NM due to the lower price of housing in RR compared to higher home prices in SF . Let me ask you a question ? In SF do you get the TV stations from Albuquerque transmitters or does SF have their own stations? It seems like the weather is slightly cooler there as compared to Rio Rancho.
I am a middle of the road late fifties black American. Is the Santa Fe and Rio Rancho areas inclusive To cultures outside of Latino/Native American? I appreciate your response.I'm looking to leave California and I like the low property taxes and climate open New Mexico.?
Hi @kinArt! Definitely! New Mexico is a majority Minority state and although it is highly Hispanic and Native, it also extends to other demographics. Rio Rancho itself has grown so much with diversity and ABQ has historical neighborhoods and very popular black owned businesses. Santa Fe is almost more open and welcoming of diversity and our communities even if there aren't as many black American folks as RR and ABQ. Come visit!
@@NoraCazares I actually have Native American in a little bit of Hispanic in me, but I identify as black. Supposed to be moving to Texas but I spent the night in Santa Fe and fell in love. Northern New Mexico is calling!
Been in Santa Fe since 1994. It’s not as enchanting as she describes. This place has changed so much in 30 years. It’s a terrible place to make a living in. Come with money! Summers are hot with no rain. Good luck!
so would a 61 year old guy that wants to retire in a year that loves playing disc golf...I suppose finding an apartment anywhere in new Mexico for what I pay here ($500 per month) would be nearly impossible?? Lol's sick of the 7 months of winter we have here in Wisconsin
@@StartGierach I’m sorry but you will not be able to find rent that low here . I came to Santa Fe in 1994 and my rent was $635. The average one bedroom apartment is around 1400.
I recently visited Santa Fe and was shocked at how large it really was. I thought there was only million plus houses there, kind of like Estes Park but it's not. There were so many shops and options to see too.
Albuquerque WOULD be nice place to live if it cleaned its act up. It used to be a great place to live a long time ago. It has nice weather (although a bit hot in summer but no as hot as AZ cities), hiking, good food, less traffic. But it's gotten run down and crime/drug ridden.
@@Wft-bu5zc I can't deny the issues Albuquerque faces with crime, drugs and alcohol but what I can say is that if you don't run in with those crowds, the people of Albuquerque are some of the most down to earth, laid back and friendly people. As for the cleanliness of the city, it doesn't seem to bad, the fact that it's not so manicured makes it feel less like you're around keeping up with the Jones's and less liky to deal with snobby people. I'm all to familiar with that mindset here in Utah and it feels superficial. We'd elevate our lifestyle in terms of an even cost trade off for what we have here in a less then ideal neighborhood here to say the la cueva school district in the "affluent" part of town. Not that it's about that but if we're talking about avoiding crime and setting our kids off on the right track, it would be ideal. Plus we'd be happier with the summers there. Here, we hit over 100 degree weather for 3 weeks every summer. In Albuquerque, that happens maybe only a handful of times. It's not ad extreme there, the summers are just longer which on paper makes it seem as if it's hotter.
Are there good suburbs near Santa Fe? Wanting to buy there but the homes are more expensive than FL! I love Santa Fe! Definitely an energetic portal there!!!
Espanola is not the nicest/high crime rate but cheaper. White Rock and the South side of Santa Fe are nice! White Rock is in between Los Alamos and Santa Fe and very nice. Lots of professionals and families that work in the labs live there. There are a few others that I like!
Just to clarify, Spaniards did not have "colonies", they had Virreinatos, Provincias and Capitanias Generales. Nuevo Mexico was a provincia, part of the Vice Royalty of New Spain.

I am planning on moving to NM, AZ, or CA this year. I cannot stand Chicago (and haven't for years). Thanks for NOT deterring viewers with BGM. I think I will love it there. Too many alternative punks (goths, especially). Lots of rude people. It's not what other YT videos depict it as. I hate all the shit, that was done since the 90s. Downtown has been expanded, further south. All kinds of new shit just popped up. The traffic really grew, and so did the number of punks, nerds, and losers. I want to get away from all that (and the southwest is where I want to go). I want to neutralize my accent (working on that right now). I don't want any of my past, or current life, with me. That's how a move should be.
I pay $2068 for a 1 bedroom in Monterey, California and it’s old and you go to the laundromat. Not upgraded and old. The beach is close and the Bay Area.
They are about to complete a brand new apartment complex here in Santa Fe, where the one bedroom is going for $2,000. I was born and raised in this same area where it's being built and not only has the area become "ghetto:, but the price for an apartment has become extremely overpriced with roaches, constant car break ins and thefts as well as drug addicts and drug dealers everywhere, even living in their vehicles on property. Oh yea and the management is nasty, rude and extremely antisocial.

unfortunately, it has become more expensive here. But! There still are casitas and other homes that locals rent who still offer cheaper rent. You have to find those people by word of mouth and local listings.
Thanks. I'm watching this with my wife and we're considering retirement places. It seems a good fit especially the food the arts and the weather.
are your thoughts the same now a year later??
My wife and I were just in Santa Fe this past week on vacation. I absolutely loved it. While I can't see us moving there, mostly due to kids and potential grandkids, I am going to check into possible monthly rentals. I would love to spend maybe one month a year out there and use it has a base to explore the west. Currently we have to cross the plains to get out west and it's pretty prohibitive on how often we do it.
Thank you for this helpful information.
My family has lived in New Mexico for 67 years. I used to work as a roving security officer. The one thing that I found was you don't want to be out at night because it's not pretty. I was all over Santa Fe from downtown to everywhere else.
I use to live in Santa Fe moved in 2018 to Monterey, California and I’m moving back to Santa Fe 2023.
Interesting! Can I ask why? (if it's not too personal?) We are looking at Santa Fe vs The California coast vs Flagstaff.
Great
I live in Monterey and have been thinking of moving to Santa Fe!!! Question, how the hell do you promote yourself in order to find a job out there because so far I haven’t had any luck 🫤
Why? Monterey is a far better place to live.
I am from Monterey and am living in Portland. I am looking to move to Santa Fe!
What’s the weather like in January?
Nice review! Regarding the wind, is it common to have high winds, or just occasional? Thanks.
Santa Fe is going to run out of water but they just keep building.
Always loved Santa Fe, been debating a move there from Dallas, as im worn out w/ Texas..
Are you worried about it running out of water?
I moved to Santa Fe from Chicago 3 years ago! I love it so much!! But I haven’t tried dating yet lolol
I'm from Oregon, but all our family still lives in New Mexico where my parents were born and raised. Most of my family lives in Chama, but I remember going to visit them in Santa Fe and thinking it was such a beautiful place and so big compared to Chama lol
New Mexico is hell on earth
I'm trying to leave Denver like you did but for other reasons. Denver is a fentanyl haven and homeless have moved in, in large numbers. Larimer and 16th isn't what it use to be all at. I want to move to a safer place that doesn't have 6 months of winter.
That's so sad to hear!
Denver is turning into Albuquerque
So is Santa Fe and if anybody tells you different they are a liar.
All these city’s have been ruined by mentally deranged, power hungry liberals. If you guys keep voting for these people the city’s you live in will continue to crumble.
Fentanyl is everywhere. Even in Santa Fe.
Thank you Mademoiselle! Merci!
Years ago my husband worked at Metro court there was 4,000+ criminals that went through the door, daily. We left & moved to 130+ acre farm in WI....
$700 a month (in ABQ) for two people is pretty good! I looked and Santa Fe is beautiful but wasn't affordable for me.
Thanks 🌝
It's not humid. Its dry just like ABQ but 10 degrees cooler due to higher elevation. Don't worry about any bugs. Worry about crime and bad drivers.
@@timtenn7671Literally some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. That’s all of NM though.
Would love to know where your renting because as a born and raised in Santa Fe nm the cost of living is absolutely ridiculous making it hard for the locals to continue to live in Santa Fe, I know a lot of apartments are charging two thousand dollars a month in Santa fe
The rent in the San Francisco Bay Area for a one bedroom apartment is $2000 a month and for a two bedroom $2800 a month. Market value.
Do you have any recommendations for living outside Albuquerque that would be a cheaper but safe option? Will be working in Rio ranchos.
Santa Fe, Corrales, and Los Alamos desirable zip codes and neighborhoods are as expensive as So Cal. 😢 I love to vacation in NM. ❤
Oh man I’m sad to hear that abq is getting more expensive, soon all the old family homes in Santa Fe will be priced out.
😥
They already are...enter los gringos con Dinero!
Well if you keep doing these videos more people will start moving there and then your rent will go up again.
YOY ARE SO GORGEOUS!
So acting and auditioning is better in Santa Fe than Albuquerque?
Did you consider Las Cruces? if no, why not?
Thanks for sharing your perspective
I love you and must say ❤❤❤
Be advised:
Santa Fe is called The City Different for a reason.
There aren't many young folks here because the cost of living is extremely high.
I am looking at moving to Santa Fe. I am a writer and aspiring musician(for fun not profit). Finding a nice apartment with reasonable rent and employment is quite a task. But I won’t know until I visit the city.
It is a writer's and musicians haven here :)
What about doctors, hospitals, healthcare in general
Santa Fe housing prices are pretty much equivalent to LA (the less expensive parts) right now.
Rental cost for apartments may be comparable to Albuquerque. But to buy a house in Santa Fe is excessively expensive in comparison. 😅 it is desirable to live there. It is about 1/5 the size of ABQ.
So helpful and I literally laughed out loud at 'cocktails'!! is there anywhere to paddleboard? I love the desert but crave water!
There is! I don't do that but I know for sure there are a couple of places!
Great review!
I’ve heard “unruly/homeless?youths” hanging around the town center can be unsettling. Have you experienced this?
@@NoraCazaresNo, breaking and entering had nothing to do with the weather. It was a criminal act by people who were poorly raised, without integrity.
I am thinking of doing the same...ABQ to Santa Fe...
hows the healthcare situation out there?
My love lives there, but has changed her age, and is 10 years younger now than when we were together. She asked me to marry her at one time, but now she doesn’t admit ever knowing me, and that I’m confusing, her with an older person. I really loved her too, but I would never have been enough for her. Glad she grew younger and is happy now, and it worked out for her. She crushed my heart though, and I would forgive her in a heartbeat today, just to have a conversation with her. Nothing more, just a conversation! 💔
My wife and I are thinking about moving from Dallas due to weather and some other considerations about Texas. This was really helpful, thank you!
Thank You for your video however Not true about Night Clubs in Santa Fe did you ever go to Avangelos on W San Francisco by The Plaza
I've heard of it! Definitely will check it out. I love intimate spaces with live music :)

Thank You for your Reply and Welcome to Santa Fe
It just is.
Living in Denver too and considering either ABQ or Santa Fe! Do you prefer Santa Fe over ABQ?
@@NoraCazares Do you miss anything about Colorado, or have you been pretty content with living in New Mexico since leaving CO?
very good I like
I dont like night life,so less crime..NM sta fe i am coming soon..from Philippines
good info and you have beautiful skin
Nice, honest video.
I've been thinking of moving to NM from Dallas for allergies and politics.
Thank you for posting.
That is true about RR. Still cheaper. I'm not sure about the TV stations and Transmitters 🤷♀
I've lived in Rio Rancho for 19 years. It continues to grow as housing is more affordable and less crime.
Yes, SF does get the same TV stations as Albuquerque.
I'm 75...look a lot less and it isn't a problem. Rock on!
@@kinart2543 that's beautiful! Your ancestors are calling you back :)
Might move there for college, looking forward to this.👍🌄
Been in Santa Fe since 1994.
Hi Nora
What is your current favorite restaurant in Santa Fe
It will be our 33rd Wedding anniversary! Maybe something romantica?❤
Hi! Congrats! I would have to say Andiamo! 🙂 Excellent Italian with a really nice wine list. Very intimate and local.
My favorite is Josephs
New Mexico has the most beautiful ❤️ ladies.
I recently visited Santa Fe and was shocked at how large it really was. I thought there was only million plus houses there, kind of like Estes Park but it's not. There were so many shops and options to see too.
I'd take Albuquerque summers over Salt Lake City's any day
Albuquerque WOULD be nice place to live if it cleaned its act up.
How do you know about the school system if you do not have children in the schools?
It’s well known that NM has some of the worst schools in the US.
Hey, that's what I pay in Virginia 1500 was the cheapest we could find.
@@NoraCazares Thank you so much ch for this reply and your video!! Really appreciate it☺️
Just to clarify, Spaniards did not have "colonies", they had Virreinatos, Provincias and Capitanias Generales. Nuevo Mexico was a provincia, part of the Vice Royalty of New Spain.

Now the apt. owners want 3x rent for income, which is stupid. Nobody makes that. I wonder if Santa Fe or Belen have the same requirement.
New Mexico is the best state
