if they were THIS sold on the idea of giving us a hot tub for the anniversary, why couldn’t they have picked the OG heart-shaped hot tub? it’d still be meh imo but at least it’d cater to the longterm fans of the series and wouldn’t just be a blatant ripoff of the one we already have lol
Sims 2 came out when I was 4, but I had older sisters that played it all the time so I would watch them play it and when I got to around 5-6 I started playing and honestly, it’s still the best Sims around. The build mode isn’t as amazing as Sims 4, but you can make amazing houses still (especially with cheats). The gameplay is the best part. The slow dancing and the different lands, the business world and university is so so good. I would love to have you play the actual gameplay as a let’s play!

Oh wow Sims 2, I loved that game! Especially MARRYING ALL THE TOWNIES! I couldn´t have been the only one who played a family for generations and *only* had relationships with "unplayable" townies?
I had a sim that had several families in the same town and I had to keep them from finding out about each other. Sisters from two different families went to uni together.
I set all the townies up with one another! I’d invite one to move in, get them their own house, and hit the town immediately! Townie dynasties were so much fun 😂
"i dont think they have terrain paint in the sims 2" yes they do! i used do do this all the time and i played a lot with the terrain editing the water terrain editing
Yeah plus a pond tool. She should've taken more time to look around and read what the icons are. The catalogue also isn't that bad when you switch to room view to find stuff.
@@japes7 She also didn't look up any cheats. Sims 2 has move objects, gridlock off, and diagonal placement but she just ignored it while complaining. Kinda of annoyed me :/
I was playing sims 2 with my cousin. At that time we both didn’t know English. One of us was always going through eng dictionary... i just wanted to show how a sims player must be...ambitious.
Yeah, same 😂 my best friend had this game and we got in trouble because we looked up sims cheats to make them woohoo and make babies and her mom found our notes and got mad about it?
In The Sims 2, they have move objects and placement for items in between tiles. CTRL SHIFT C like normal. Type: moveObjects on. Enter. CTRL SHIFT C. Type: setQuarterTilePlacement on. Enter, THEN on the keyboard, press CTRL and F at the same time. You may need to press CTRL F a second time if the item isn't between the grid tiles. It works. Type the cheats with "off" to turn off.
What I loved about the Sims 2 is the personalisation of it, even moving around lots and stuff is better. Just everything was better. Half tiles though... What a revolution hahaha
I loved the Sims 2! I'm 22 and it's the most nostalgic game for me. Played it a lot in 2007/2008 on our old Windows XP family computer. In 2009 I got the Sims 3 for my birthday and switched to that game. Absolutely loved Sims 3, it will forever be my favourite because of the all the possibilities, endless patterns and big worlds. I gave the Sims 4 a try, but I don't like it at all.
I'm 22 as well and pretty much had that exact experience. The Sims 4 has grown on me over the years, but Sims 3 will probably remain my favorite of the franchise.
I was 5 when Sims came out. I asked my parents for it. Got it. And my entire family played and still plays to this day. We also still have all our original discs.
I was 7 when I started playing it at a friends and got it for my 8th birthday. I’m only a month older than Kayla but I also know that a lot of parents would not have wanted their kids to play a game like the sims at that age. Especially since it has a teen rating.
Its a t rated game, not everyone's parents let them play it, or had computers they could use, or could afford it 🤷Im the same age too and I only played sims 3 (and now 4) idk ppl live different lives lol
damn--i'm also 20 but i played sims 2 because an older cousin of mine introduced me. i got a WAVE of nostalgia watching this. i used to have a lot of fun building brand new neighborhoods from an empty set of roads to a thriving neighborhood filled with sims. seeing this does make me appreciate how much has changed, though
I remember putting so many hours into the first Sims when I was 10 years old. The summer of 2001 was nothing but the Sims. That gorgeous build mode music takes me right back there too. I almost tear up when I hear it.
I was also 4 when the Sims 2 came out, but the Sims 2 Double Deluxe came out in 2008 (I was 8) and that was my first actual Sims game. Before that, I had Sims 2, Sims 2 Pets, and Sims 2 Castaway on PS2 and all the the MySims games (that were out at the time). The Sims 2 will always be my favorite.
when you said that when u got home after school everyday and watched people play the sims, i completely related, but i watch u everyday and u make me so happy. i’m also a freshman in highschool and i am miserable but i love ur videos and they always keep me entertained.❤️
Which is ironic because the graphics aren't nice. Honestly though I think the gameplay in the Sims 4 isn't bad. I just started playing it after moving from the Sims 3 and omg everything is much smoother...group conversations and hanging out and eating and drinking together so easy.
The sims 4 was supposed to be an online game, but people were not having it, especially after what happened to the latest SimCity. So EA decided a little too late into the project to make the game singleplayer, which explains why it feels like a husk compared to the previous games.
Yup, annoying because the graphics are horrible. I remember being on the Sims 3 forums and people had seen so many mock Sims 4 trailers of stunning, realistic graphics. We thought it was clever leaked marketing. Boy were we disappointed! I only bought the Sims 4 last year heavily discounted. It's fun for building but gameplay and graphics are kind of a joke.
I always feel so bad at building because I build in Sims 2 and I watch all the great build ppl do with Sims 4, now I feel A LOT better about my builds in Sims 2, it's not as easy as in Sims 4 apparently 😅❤
I love how one sons relationship level is different from the others. Like they BOTH have to like eachother. It's so much harder to develop relationships. Aka relatable
yeah i don't know if she knows about the gardening mechanic lmao i would hire somebody to take care of my yard and they would be there until 8 at night
"20 years is a long time"... dude. I was 20 when TS1 came out. I have vivid memories still of playing ALL the sims games. I still remember the gameplay, build controls, shortcuts, cheats -- all of it for all the old games. TS2 was A-MAZING, especially as just being a huge leap from TS1. I even built my own mods for TS2. TS3 was probably the most fun I ever had in terms of gameplay. It was a bear to mod, because the initial load time was SO long, so testing and tweaking a mod was annoying. But the open world is phenomenal! Once you get through the initial load screen, you can play for hours. There were times I would leave the game up for days and just keep going back to it when I had time. And then there came TS4... a gigantic step backward in pretty much every aspect except build mode. Being able to move whole rooms around made my year! And adding foundations after the rest of the house, and, and, and. I just in the last few weeks have started watching YT builders, and you guys are so incredible (in TS4 anyway haha). Keep it up!
"I don't understand how it works!" "Why is it so finicky?!" "I don't know what I'm looking at!" "I can't tell if I'm missing something..." "I don't know what I'm doing!" Literally me whenever I tried building the first dozen times in Sims 4 lol. I still don't know how to do things I did easily in Sims 2/3. Sims 1 and 2 had a lot of crazy gameplay objects that disappeared by the Sims 3 (I remember a giant scuba tank from one expac in Sims 1 and a ballet barre in Sims 2). I remember Sims 1 had a clown picture that would send a sad clown around if your sims moods were too low lol. I remember how revolutionary it was to me in Sims 2 that your sim kids could grow up! It was amazing! I never played without cheats back then to keep moods up and have money. I wonder how it would be to play today, now that I don't use cheats at all?
i was wondering too and actually it's pretty challenging to keep the motives up without cheats compared to the sims 4, especially if you have toddlers that can't literally do anything. and same, it took me some time to get used to s4 build tools, still have no clue how decks work though, but half tiles and being able to just drag walls are *chef's kiss *
@@kashhen9409 I think I read that, I haven't tried to find it though. In S1 it hung around depressing everyone and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it lol.

@@LulaMae21 wow, that is sure ambitious to try to pull off in anything except s4, i don't think the problem is in you really. imho the good thing in s4 relationships is how durable they are, honestly those constant pop ups from sim's friends in s2 got annoying pretty quickly
I am 30 now and I remember this sentence from my dad from back then: my colleague has a new game, where you can play people living in a house, you have to feed them, you have to go to work etc. :D
I remember in 2001 someone that worked with my mom was doing some Spring Cleaning and gave her a bunch of random stuff, and one of those things was the Sims Livin' Large Expansion Pack. Which had just come out that year and was a high-value thing to just give away... I had never heard of the Sims but it looked cool so I had my mom buy the original so I could use the expansion. And I fell in love immediately. This has been in my life since I was turning 12, and I couldn't imagine how my gaming life would have been without it.
I'm one of those who has played since Sims 1, and I wish newer players could experience the excitement of being able to go from only having babies/kids, to aging like we have now. Sims 4 has overtaken Sims 2 for hours played now, but I sank most of my life into Sims 2. Watching this brought back ALL the memories. I think you'd love the detail in the live mode parts, even though it's pretty clunky now.
To this day I am such a huge sims 2 fan. Whenever I have a bad day I just start listening to the soundtrack from the game and I get an instant feeling of joy!
Hey Kayla, just wanted to say a sincere thanks. Last night my anxiety was extremely bad and I couldn’t get to sleep because I kept thinking about death and couldn’t stop crying. So after getting back up at 4am and having a cup of hot cocoa I tried sleeping again, this time with some of your videos playing. Because I’ve been following you for ages, it was really comforting just having a familiar friendly voice chatting nearby, and it really helped me rest. So yeah, guess I just wanted to say thank you for being here!
Watching a younger generation person (wow I sound old) really play TS2 for the first(ish) time and appreciate how awesome the game used to be makes me so sincerely happy. It’s like watching my nephew watch Toy Story for the first time. Ahhh wholesome
Sims 2 is still my favourite, I was SO invested in it everytime when I finished school I'd immediately do my homework and then plan until bed time. Such good times
I'm this newbie who only has played the Sims 4, like ever. When I was a child (like gradeschool) we had a "event" where some scouts basically made some sort of little kids city, where you could "work" in some sort of library, and other "workplaces" run by adult supervisors. You could eighter earn the money of this city and buy food and drinks (no real money of course) or you could get some sort of little present from your workplace. For example a book from the library. I worked in the library for 2 hours so I could get two presents. I got the Sims 2 and the Sims 2 Nightlife. This was shortly (well, two/three years) after it came out. I've had those things for over 10 years now and I'm 19. This tutorial you linked gives me hope. Maybe I can finally play it! :)
I am 21 and The sims 1 was my first sims! Yes we exist (the sims 2 is the best sims, fight me). But yea i started playing the sims when i was 7ish so no excuse there for nothing playing the older games! (jk,jk)
Literally same! The Sims 2 wasnt even in my country for a long time after publishing it. We just played The Sims 1 and then were extremely surprised to find another game exists already! :D
Same! I’m 19 and started with the sims 1 and then continued with the sims 2. The Sims 2 was also my favorite game for gameplay (I didn’t build that much back then). 😂 Now I love building in the sims 4
Nice to see these "youngsters" acknowledge the struggle we went through and appreciate the building changes we got in Sims3 and 4! I was a teen when Sims1 released and played this one for hours! Simsie, I apologize for laughing at your pain. Don't kick yourself too hard, but please do come back to this neighborhood sometime.
You always inspire to make sims builds and sims in cas. You are my favorite youtuber, and you are so amazing! You are funny, intelligent and you have humor.
Wooowww, Kayak calls herself a gamer but never played the Sims 2? What a poser. But really, at the risk of sounding overly sentimental, the way you described being grateful for The Sims and fellow simmers getting you through rough times in your life is how a lot of us feel about you. So thank you for that, and happy Sims-iversary to you!
Wooooow, I never tried doing that back in the day. I think I always paired Cassandra with Dirk, and Don was the designated jump-off for Kaelynn and the Calientes, and maybe Mary-Sue Pleasant too.
@@Fudgeey oh lol but yeah every time I try marrying Don on the first day he runs away. So in order to get them married you gotta do romantic interactions with Don, then send him home and invite him to get married another day. I usually pair them both and sometimes I get them to divorce and pair her with Dirk
I got the Sims in the Scholastic Reading magazine from school when I was in the 6th grade. I was always so nervous when the sims would sleep, and a burglar would show up.
This made me feel so old😂. I grew up with the Sims 1 and I remember when the Sims 2 came out and our computer couldn't support it.😭 Thankfully there was a GameCube version and my brother had one, so we finally could play Sims2.😂
I love that she gave sims 2 a shot, proud of her. Fun video! Also, you can place objects outside of the grid actually, but you need a cheat code. Unfortunately doesn't work on windows and doors though. It's "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false". Replace with false with true to turn grid back on.
I know this is like a year old, but I loved playing Sims 2 as a kid and teen, and seeing you discover how to build brought back so much nostalgia! I keep getting so frustrated in the Sims 4 because I have to relearn how to build stuff. I spent like an hour trying to figure out foundations because I thought platforms were foundations. 🤣 Finally broke down and watched a video to see you just raise the room and I rage quit! 😂😂😂
I like how Kayla went into Sims 2 and thought she was going to be able to make fun of the houses right away. Does she really have no idea that the worlds/houses of Sims 2 and 3 base game are actually high quality?! *cough* unlike Sims 4 *cough*
High quality? The builds in The Sims 2 from freetime on suck, the sims 3 has super high quality worlds as well as terrible quality too. Let's not slam sims 4 just for the sake of it
The house she dropped in to first was always my favourite to play in along with 130 Sim Lane in Pleasantview. The premade maxis houses looked far better in the sims 2 than in the more recent packs. I think the first house she went in was one of the first houses I tried to build in the sims 3 and sims 4.
First sims came out when I was 7. It was huge part of my life. The sims 2 has simillar interface to the first game, and for me it's like so much more intuitive! I was struggling to watch you not knowing how to build in it, cause for me it makes so much more sense than in The sims 4! There is only 6 years of difference between us... How crazy is that? It really shows how fast this world is changing.
Amazing. As someone old enough to have played all the Sims versions I personally still think Sims2 reigns supreme! I mean the Sims4 will never understand hanging out every night in the dodgy bars hoping a grand vampire comes along and befriending them before being able to be turned....or having to sleep in a coffin during daylight hours.... *sigh....I miss those days! Thank you simsie for allowing me to be nostalgic
sims 2 came out before i was born, it’s still my childhood because it was the only sims game we had and i would play it all day on the laggy, virus-ridden family computer. that was my childhood
Unfortunately I am old enough to have had every Sims game that ever came out... (including The Sims Urbz... oh my god, what a game). It's actually so nice to watch someone with fresh eyes (who is vastly better at this game than me) play this, while I reminisce. Your excitement about all the good stuff in Sims 2 is awesome.

if they were THIS sold on the idea of giving us a hot tub for the anniversary, why couldn’t they have picked the OG heart-shaped hot tub? it’d still be meh imo but at least it’d cater to the longterm fans of the series and wouldn’t just be a blatant ripoff of the one we already have lol
shaun the heart shaped tub would’ve been amazing
omg i want the heart shaped hot tub!!
I KNOW RIGHT that's what I thought it was going to be at first and I was excited 😔
The heart shaped hot tub would have been amazing or the love bed....
Can someone make a cc out of it
Sims 2 came out when I was 4, but I had older sisters that played it all the time so I would watch them play it and when I got to around 5-6 I started playing and honestly, it’s still the best Sims around. The build mode isn’t as amazing as Sims 4, but you can make amazing houses still (especially with cheats). The gameplay is the best part. The slow dancing and the different lands, the business world and university is so so good. I would love to have you play the actual gameplay as a let’s play!
"the sims has come a long way"
maybe in build mode, graphics and create a sim. but the rest is way behind imo
i miss when the faces popped up every time you clicked on something
Fer Noguera kinda creeped me out ngl
Me, an old. “I don’t see any problems with how this building process works in Sims 2”
Same, honestly I felt some relief going back to the TS2 build system, since that's still what I know best.
I truly became overwhelmed with the newer sims building styles. I had to learn the pattern where as I found the sims 1&2 to be more innate
I've played since it first came out. I was great at building in 1, 2, and 3...im still figuring out 4...but I'm getting there
this is how i felt when I started using sims 4 for the first time,, i couldnt find anything and didnt know how any of the building worked,, i was so frustrated w/ how sims 4 foundations and fences work
if you ever wanna try building on sims 2 again some helpful cheats are:
moveobjects on/off (obviously)
boolprop snapobjectstogrid true/false (sims 2 version of alt placing)
boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true/false
ctrl+click when using things like foundations/stage/wall/floor/wallpaper to mass delete
I remember even back in the day, this game would take SO long to load. I would open it up and then go grab a snack and wait for it to load lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 one time I was experimenting if I could dine in the time it took for the Sims 2 to load

@@japes7 She also didn't look up any cheats. Sims 2 has move objects, gridlock off, and diagonal placement but she just ignored it while complaining. Kinda of annoyed me :/
@Kay Simming she just didn’t know what she was doing. It’s not her fault.

Hannah Eller LMFAOOOO That’s hilarious!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣💗
I wasn’t even born
Oh my, the memories! You should do a Let's Play and let us grandmas and grandpas relive our youth :P

I’m 21 and the sims 2 was my childhood. I loved it so much. I just get so bored now playing the sims 4
It also took me a while to transition to the sims 4 but I promise you get used to it and come to love it when you do :)

I was 5 when Sims came out.
I asked my parents for it.
Got it. And my entire family played and still plays to this day. We also still have all our original discs.
I was 2 when the Sims 3 came out, still played it lol
But I never played the Sims 2
I was 7 when I started playing it at a friends and got it for my 8th birthday. I’m only a month older than Kayla but I also know that a lot of parents would not have wanted their kids to play a game like the sims at that age. Especially since it has a teen rating.
Its a t rated game, not everyone's parents let them play it, or had computers they could use, or could afford it 🤷Im the same age too and I only played sims 3 (and now 4) idk ppl live different lives lol
I played it when I was younger only because my older sister owned it lol
damn--i'm also 20 but i played sims 2 because an older cousin of mine introduced me. i got a WAVE of nostalgia watching this. i used to have a lot of fun building brand new neighborhoods from an empty set of roads to a thriving neighborhood filled with sims. seeing this does make me appreciate how much has changed, though
I remember putting so many hours into the first Sims when I was 10 years old. The summer of 2001 was nothing but the Sims. That gorgeous build mode music takes me right back there too. I almost tear up when I hear it.
Omg yes. Damn. The piano solo build mode music just takes me back.

Honestly, the sims 4 focused too much on graphics and forgot everything else
Which is ironic because the graphics aren't nice. Honestly though I think the gameplay in the Sims 4 isn't bad. I just started playing it after moving from the Sims 3 and omg everything is much smoother...group conversations and hanging out and eating and drinking together so easy.
only good thing is character customization lol
The sims 4 was supposed to be an online game, but people were not having it, especially after what happened to the latest SimCity. So EA decided a little too late into the project to make the game singleplayer, which explains why it feels like a husk compared to the previous games.
@@thewinner7382 yeah, but at the same time, eating takes soooo mutch time. Sims 3 runs pretty good on my PC. I love both games

You've put so many bushes in the garden. That would honestly be a nightmare while playing lol
yeah i don't know if she knows about the gardening mechanic lmao i would hire somebody to take care of my yard and they would be there until 8 at night
I once decided to turn an entire TS1 lot into a massive hedge maze.
If your garden is too big, TWO gardeners will be spawned when you hire the service.
Keep it up!
love her but that was painful to watch LMAO

Literally me whenever I tried building the first dozen times in Sims 4 lol.
Sims 4 still has the tragic clown pic and the clown will show up if you view it lol
i was wondering too and actually it's pretty challenging to keep the motives up without cheats compared to the sims 4, especially if you have toddlers that can't literally do anything. and same, it took me some time to get used to s4 build tools, still have no clue how decks work though, but half tiles and being able to just drag walls are *chef's kiss *

Let's not slam sims 4 just for the sake of it
Alessandro D. C. I clearly said *base game.*
The house she dropped in to first was always my favourite to play in along with 130 Sim Lane in Pleasantview. The premade maxis houses looked far better in the sims 2 than in the more recent packs. I think the first house she went in was one of the first houses I tried to build in the sims 3 and sims 4.
LeyDan I loved 105 and 130 Sim Lane! 130 was always my go-to home. I built it in Sims 4, and I love it
Alessandro D. C. The Sims 4 deserves most if not all of the hate it gets. It’s a lazy attempt at what should’ve been an incredible game.
I feel like the sims 4 is so similar to the sims 2 so it’s weird that the title says it didn’t go well. I played sims 2 for eeeeevvverrerr
The sims never ever used to run... hours and hours of your dad trying to fix it with no access to the internet to troubleshoot was part of the fun
Someone: what’s The Sims like?
Me: it’s 20 years old. Looks like Kayla.
Sims 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I never stopped playing it. My little cousin is 15 and she even said that the Sims 2 is the best one!
There are two different catalogue tabs! If you can't find what you're looking for in the normal view, you can always try room view!
Amazing. As someone old enough to have played all the Sims versions I personally still think Sims2 reigns supreme!
