- One of the Sickest Drummers I've ever heard: Blake Richardson of Between the Buried and Me Playing the song "Prequel to the Sequel" [ALL THE WAY THRU]..Off the album "Colors"
10 years later this is still great
Blake is an exceptional drummer. Nothing over done, precise strokes, true musician who understands his instrument and delivers eargasmic paterns and tones.
Little did he know he would ripped as fuck within the decade
Little did he know, he would go on to be considered one of the best drummers of all-time.
i've listened to these guys for years and i am still finding parts of songs that i like that i've never heard before
Total beast mode. Total talent. Can't hate on the best. For real.
His cymbal work is outstanding.
This guy blows my mind. He makes it look so damn easy.
After watching this I had to buy a drum set, and I'm a guitar player
Thank you for this. I forgot how effective simple, straightforward drumming can be.
all time favorite drummers: Blake Richardson, Matt Greiner, Kevin Choiral, Chris Adler, Matthew McDonough, Travis Orbin, Dan Foord
Travis Orbin is an amazing drummer!
This is still so amazing!
Blake Richardson is a freaking drumming god ... Such creativity technique and power .
blake is my new inspiration. I was genuinely starting to get bored of drumming, which i never thought would happen, but after i heard this guy play, i was completely inspired to play again :D he has such a unique style and BTBAM suits the style so well. I learnt how to play this song up til 1:22 today, but i was then overwhelmed... tomorrow!!!!
@xbboy1234 BTBAM is not screamo at all, you couldn't be more wrong
2:20 HOLY SWEET JEEEBUS DAT FILL.
UGH! I wish I could see the entire set up. I want to see all the mics used for recording this.
FINALLY, a BTBAM video with no dislikes, the way it should always be.
How is he doing this while wearing a hoodie??
cus hes an alien
Or air conditioning.
If you pay close enough attention to his drumming he actually reserves alot of energy minimizing his movements in turn not sweating up alot whole lot.he is such a well rounded drummer in that aspect endurance.Pays to be drumming these highly complex monster marathons they call songs lol
BEST INTRO EVER! that fill into the section, BOMB
Holy crap...how many style/genres and tempo/meter changes can you fit into one song!?!? Absolutely SICK. I can't believe I hadn't heard of Blake before recently. He is one of those pure talents (a la Jason Becker) to just come out full guns blazing and taking things up a notch. F'ng awesome. Thanks for the post!
good boy! this is so epic
Its a mix between Math Core, Progressive and Metalcore so it stands defined. Id acknowledge that so far. I seriously dont know why this band is linked to the emo scene ... they're just a fuckin genious Band nothing more nothing less
@jay112273 blake richardson average? no fucking way in hell. this guy is a monster and gets better every album.
I just noticed the thing he does around 6:00 is similiar to the thing he does on Laser Speed.
I wonder is this pre Colors recording? Because this version is a bit different from the album version, or maybe he just had some fun and improvised. :)
Also, this man is a beast. Ive always admired BTBAM's drumming, it just hits so freaking hard.😎🔥
he and Portnoy did a drum jam back about 6 years ago, it was fukkin sick!
How weird it is to be a huge BTBAM fan and find it uploaded by another nascar fan
mentor Blake THE MACHINE
He is the best !!!
wow. I just decided to read through the comments and some people are just stupid. One comment I enjoy in particular is JayBennetts when he says he is playing along to a rhythm and melody...um... we are watching a DRUM video right?...Drums are RHYTHM instrument? Yeah, they kinda are. I think people are just mad that their lives amounted to nothing and Blake is out there playing his ass off and making music. Get over yourself people
My f#&cking idol. Absolutely brilliance
I'm closest to this beast's style... But I'm NOWHERE near as good!!!!! Blake is a freaking boss on the drums!!! Favorite drummer!!!
@j0gan673
There's moongel on the snare, what's on the toms appear to be triggers (based mainly on size difference!)
Sick!
I sure as hell hope so.
This is like some guy went "hey Blake, could you show these kids every different style of drumming possible?" and then Blake played but after he was like "oh man, I totally forgot that Jazz style where you hold the sticks inwards and shit" But he got no response because everyone's face had just melted.
Thats.., not a style. Holding the sticks "inward." That's a way to play a style...
@molomono thank you, couldnt have said it better myself
noticed its walking, more staggered, than norrrrrmal... oh sorry, just realized I was typing, love that part
@StewartHaasNewman Blake makes it look easy because he is that good. He knows his set and how to make it sound the way he needs it to, even during the ridiculously fast sections
Drumming in a sweater... ya- BOSS.
I was like i can play this, then i shit my pants! \π/
I like how he fiddles around in this recording as oppose,to actual drum recording
@RelaxBrodysseus
And looking through this song again, goddam the drummer is sick as shit. If you compare Blake Richardson to Matt Greiner who would you take?
He makes it look so easy but I know full well I'd never be able to get to his level
@RelaxBrodysseus
Badass, now the clincher. Blake Richardson or Danny Carey?
I wonder if he went from tracking Ants of the Sky to Prequel to the Sequel without stopping.
@jay112273 if you dont find this that great, then go watch him record Obfuscation... that'll make your jaw drop.
best drummer in ever
Elliot Hoffman
Blake Richardson
Jojo Mayer
Jan Benkwitz
Dennis Chambers
Tony Jr. Royster
fcking awesome!!
2:09
this new stuff is more like dream theater
their old stuff is hardcore
@DuringCreation i just dont imagine them, i actually bust out singing them! \m/
@lennythecow123 I greatly disagree. I think that the one thing that remains constant is this exploration away from preconception and an idea of what is "good". It's an overall vibe, a growing progressing emotion. From the complexity of the musical concepts to the lyrics, I think everything is perfect. The words, and their presentation, are all satisfactory. I think the quality of the music is actually heightened through Tommy's understanding of what is happening musically. But that's just me.
@lkaruga yeah i used to hate the screaming but the music is soooo good that i deal with it, i like some screamers but for the most part i am a clean vocal fan, thats why i love bands that do both, have u ever heard of sybreed?
StewartHaasNewman me too man
Anyone know what kind of bell he is using below the high hat at 7:20?
+acord0296 thanks man :). That was very helpful
+acord0296 definitely radia cup chime, not sure about the size, though.
What China cymbal is that? It's awesome, along with the song and drumming, but it only ever shows the Sabian logo, not the cymbal line or type
he's the modern Peart
I honestly can't believe that people would say Blake is not a good drummer, what the fuck is wrong with you ignorant people?! Open your damn eyes and ears and appreciate something you can't do!
Dude, that shit works wonders!
He looked cool scratching his nose at :10 lol
@99siks10 Yes.
The guitar harmonies and drums, really remind me of Avenged Sevenfold
@jay112273 An average drummer could'nt play songs like this one but he can play songs like you and me are able to play.
@Metallica032693 I'm sorry man, that's just not true. I might give it to you that Syn is as good as Dustie Waring (maybe), but Paul Waggoner is fucking unreal. There's no comparison there. And Blake Richardson is far better as well. That's speaking about pure technical prowess though, if A7X is more of your artistic taste than that's up to you and I respect that. I think A7X is the Nickelback of Metal, but hey, I'm a mathcore guy so I'm biased I guess.
Blake for DT!
@RelaxBrodysseus
Yea, I wouldn't say the Nickelback of metal, that'd be insulting lol. So what exactly is mathcore, I thought that was just a joke the first few times? And yea I dig A7x's sound, but this song sounds kind of similar to a7x.
@molomono yep i would not think of being that good
@jay112273 can you do this?
@jay112273 haha, no shit nothing says "look at me"
He can do everything so smoothly and with so much ease that the untrained eye won't catch all the amazing things that are going on.
14 years later this still makes no sense to me lol
3:04 sheeesh
IT looks a lot harder than it really is haha
@xbboy1234
Non-traditional vocals does not equal "screamo"...
This guy isn't a metal drummer...Hes a fucking musical genius,
@Cainoish Is DT Dream Theater?
@lennythecow123 I disagree. Sure the instrumental sections sound godly but I'm not sure if it would have the same effect without any vocals during the other parts. I personally think the band needs Tommy as a vocalist
beibg a drummer for 8 years i think im doing pretty good on this and i love the song GO SCREAMO!!!!!!!!!!!
and yes in the drum cover it does not speak at all listen to the actual song prequel to the sequel by between the buried and me!!!!
This isnt a cover, it's a playthrough..., you know, by the ACTUAL drummer...
@TheBDubShizzle yes
@lkaruga now hes in sky eats airplane, they r pretty good but i like periphery a lot more the song "totala mad" is insane
@ausnick2001 dont forget about travis orbin
@TheBDubShizzle I know .. I hope it happens soon
@Raiderfan123 Just like the album. He's awesome.
@MariusG94 I almost lost my mind until you said JK Joey is good but he's no Blake Richardson
2:22- 2:33 I Quit
Are those triggers on his toms?
@Isosyth well ya you got a point man :P
How do you get a maple snare to sound like that?
@xbboy1234 You must not know what Progressive Metal is huh?
Would go gay for Blake, Dan, Tommy, Dustie, or Paul in a heartbeat.
0:55 haha xD
@mortician001 Me too, they were the first band I ever saw live, back when they were good I liked em up until Iowa anything they did after Iowa pissed me off but oh
Well that shit happens to some bands but btbam always rocks even as their style
Has shifted I bit I still love every song ever written by btbam
Moon gel
I hate it when the tempo changes and I can't keep up with it, couldn't quite grasp the rhythm halfway thru the first part, guess I gotta pay more attention...
Its called progressive metal for a reason
Sorry "castillo"
4:43
double kick
Listen to fleshgod apocalypse the violation and tell me about double kick
Well, Will. I doubt you have heard his playing on Parallax 2. Maybe you'd like to educate yourself...
@jay112273 LOL Buddy....
his highs aren't growls. lol
you could have said Harsh Vocals* though. would have been more correct.
but i do respect that you know that the low ones are growls
@conterooski
Well I have not heard much of BTBAM, so I cannot say for sure, but I do know that their drummer was more than likely better than BTBAM's drummer, the guitarists are about the same.
since when did god change his name to blake richardson and play drums?
It's closer to deathcore.
