Just heard Wheel of Fortune will be bringing this theme back with a modernized feel to it, which has me hyped for the 39th season. Long live the "wheel."
Today, that being September 8, 2021, the show announced that they're going to have a reworked version of the Changing Keys theme at the beginning of the season on September 13. I'm actually surprised Sony worked something out with Merv Griffin's estate that they'd be able to use it, but I'm happy about it as well. 😀
Yes, and considering it was officially discontinued as the show's theme after Merv retired from the executive producer position in 2000 (after having spent several years sharing producer duties with Friedman before turning it all over to him) the fact we're getting it back after nearly 21 years is a total surprise. This is an unexpected and nostalgic development. Guess they were finally able to negotiate with the estate for it's use in the show again.

Probably the first theme song I committed to memory. I watched this show with my parents in the 80's & 90's. "I would like to buy an A." "I'll spin!" (lands on Bankrupt) Cue slide whistle. Edit: Oh, and I'm recalling all this from before Double Dare hit the airwaves in '88.
did they do anything different with the logo to differentiate daytime from syndication? like how for syndication I *THINK* just for season 1, the theme started at 0:56
@@disneydanny2 Right you are about season 1...the true intro with the glissando effect at 0:00 didn't start until season 2, in 1984. The CGI version of the logo, which was seen just before Jack Clark's opening announcement concluded, wasn't there until season 3 (1985-86).

I agree. The current theme is not as great as "Changing Keys". I would be okay if they used it as part of a "Throwback Week" or something to that tune, no pun intended. Even "Jeopardy!" and "Price is Right" know better than not to mess with success as both shows have kept their respective themes in the time they have existed making only minor changes.
Will N Not sure I can agree with you on that. Yeah, Bob was a legend but not without some of the controversies. The set looks way better now because of all the updates they made, and Drew looks very comfortable now and made the show his own style, with his own way of handling the models (the Models Rule episode during one April Fools episode would've never happened under Bobs hosting, and yeah, model turnover happened with Bob as well). Now the models seem more a part of the show and more involved with it than just there. I think the show has become even better now. Sorry, but I just think it does.
There's a trick to make this theme repeat itself, but it has to be done manually. At about 1:40 or so, when the music begins to build toward the fanfare, click 0:25 to make the theme repeat itself. If it's timed right, it will sound in sync as though it were actually repeating. Pretty cool.
That part around the middle where the main melody seems to take a short break, make a loop, and come back around to rejoin (1:03 or 1:04 mark)-- it seems to remind me of when I was on the road with my father for Wal-Mart headed for Cullman, AL, and I-20 went under I-59 in Birmingham, made a left turn, and merged into I-59 to run concurrently.

This and the 1989 theme are my two favorite Wheel themes. I do like the 1975 theme for the nostalgia value of the Woolery days.
mine too. I never noticed until just recently the ending of the '89 theme wasn't the puzzle solve cue like it was in this version.

This was actually used from 1984-1989. The first year this was used, it was a different mix and it started in a different spot.
