Olympic drums may have been the 'cheap' kits of their time but there was nothing cheap about their sound.

The fun thing is that the british drum manufacturer, from Olympic to Ajax are actually the better build instruments but bcause they're not trendy, they lost the battle. But they're build like tanks . ..

It depends on how it’s tuned and other factors. Ludwig drums sound drastically different on every other UA-cam video to the point where they don’t even sound like the same drum.

The cheap Premier definitely sounds more pleasing to my ear a bit more lively, full bodied, and cutting, but that is obviously due to the steel shell as opposed to the dry sounding aluminium shell of the Luddy.

Tuning seems to last longer on my Premier 1026 (8 lugs) than on my Premier 1035 (10 lugs), maybe the difference in the sound is due to the material shell (steel on the 1026, alu on the 1035) ...Who knows...It's not a big deal anyway, i love them equally ...!

The Ludwig beats the Olympic by a hair, not a lot in it, but it is there. There's just a little to much ring with the Olympic but get a better Premier snare in there, maybe an aluminium 2000? And that Ludwig will have proper competition. It's a great demo. You could pick up a complete Olympic kit for about £150... A Supraphonic? £400 and up just for a snare drum? People are cottoning on to what tone machines vintage Premier are. The funny thing is the build quality is the best of the best. vintage Ludwig sound great but they have nothing on vintage Premier for quality and the tone is there with Premier I have a Resonator kit in Black Shadow finish and I'm bloody delighted with it! Sounds great and it is so beautiful! Now I'm collecting all the TriLok hardware for it...

Funny you say that...I've got a '98 Cabria set I bought a year ago...with G1's and Premier die cast hoops its sounds so close to the 60's Gretsch round badge kit I have next to it, I don't need the Gretsch's any more. Plus, no one will steal them if I gig them out.
