Thanks for sharing! Can you share how you will do your history curriculum this next school year? Also, the books and documentaries you pick to go along with the curriculum?
Thanks for sharing so honestly! This year was a struggle sometimes with a 1 year old, and then going into next year I'll have a 2 year old and another newborn. 😮 Sometimes it feels like just surviving the day around ohr homeschool, but my older two always surprise me with their flexibility and understanding. Hope your family experiences many more wins in the upcoming year!
We had to put our Spanish & Logic on hold this year too. I have had a lot going on health wise and really just focused on the basics. I felt bad initially, but honestly the kids still received plenty and were able to do all of their extracurricular activities. I think it's ok to recognize our limits! Managing a newborn and schooling 4 others is no small task...you did great.
Hits: AAR Level 1 and TGTB math K With my kindergarten twins. Misses: everything else I had planned because teaching two kids how to read is very time consuming!
Honestly, Story of the World didn't work out for us. Ut was more about stories than actual history and my kids didn't feel like they were learning any history.
This was great. We had some misses due to craziness in our life. I took on too much this year, so the extras (art, music, electives) just didn’t work out. I still have everything and we will try again next year.
How did you like the simply Charlotte math with your kindergarter? I was considering using math you see but after watching your video for your kindergarten pics of curriculum last year, I was interested in SCM curriculum.
Watercoloring was a miss for us too! We did great for the fall and then I got pregnant in December and we did bare bones school through morning sickness and exhaustion. Next year is a baby year, so we will see what happens!! Our hit that surprised me was life science - we had so many wonderful discussions surrounding it. I loved it and the kids did too. Looking forward to seeing what you choose for your subjects next year!
Almost anything that involved more of me than the bare minimum was a miss the 2nd part of the year. We keep my grandbabies while my daughter works and baby 2 was born this past February and both have had some health concerns
As for us thos year... Top Hits: 1. 7th Grade Science (Apologia General science) 2. Easy Peasy Reading levels 6,4 and 1(especially 1) 3. Chalotte Mason Simple Studies "America" unit (I think that is the Name of the company) Misses: this was a rough year because we had a lot of curriculum we didnt love so there are a lot 1. TGTB Consitution Unit 2. TGTB LA level 6 3. Easy Peasy physics and chemistry for 4th grade 4. ASL 5. Easy Peasy Geography Looking forward to a fresh start next year
A major hit in our home was Apologia science. Can't wait to do it again next year. Our miss was TGTB language arts. I would love to hear what your kids enjoyed reading this year.
Thanks for sharing everything! Do you think Five in A Row is good as a supplement for a 3rd grader (I know you used it for yours), but I’ve always heard it was more for younger kiddos.
Abby, do you (or anyone else here) ever complete the year and feel satisfied and good with what you covered, curriculum you used, habits you’ve trained in etc..? I’m in my 3rd year homeschooling here and I have not yet felt “ok” with how the year went overall.
Every year as I compile our portfolio I’m certainly thankful for what was done that year, and it takes me by surprise each time, even if I go in thinking we “accomplished nothing”. Have you compiled a portfolio or made a list of successes? It may help you realize what all was done.
Are you going to continue with the second year of SOTW next year? This will be our first year doing the full curriculum and we will be starting with the second volume. I let my boys choose abd we have read the forst as a read aloud and i would love to see how you plan to help it truly come alive because I am such a fan of history but we havent found something we truly love yet and im hoping this will be something we can really love
I would love to hear how you go about grading/reviewing completed work. Do you do this daily, weekly, right after an assignment is completed? I haven't found a good rhythm for this yet.
One of our hits was Evan Moor Spelling.. a miss was SIngapore Dimensions Math. It was just too much with my 1st grader. The curriculum was a good curriculum just wasn't what worked for us this year. We are going to try TGTB Math this time because she really seemed to enjoy and do well with a few of the lessons when I printed it. I am also trying out TGTB Language Arts level 2.. I am nervous with hearing so much negativity lately about it but we shall see how it works for my youngest.
We failed majorly at watercolours too 😂 or I did anyways. For me my kids are of the ages of still needing help with the setup and clean up. With a 1.5 year old in the house it could only be done when she napped and I got pregnant pretty early in the school year and felt crummy so that nap time was precious and rarely a time I felt up to getting out the paints 😆 baby comes over the summer so next year is a “baby year” plus the toddler who will then be 2 while we’re trying to do school so this next years art projects is going back to more drawing / colouring / sketching.
This mama needed to hear your intro❤️🙏🏽☺️! Thanks for sharing!
I always love your videos. Thank you for all that you being to the homeschooling community!!! ❤

A SOTW plan with me video would be immensely helpful!
Yes! I would also love to hear what assigned readers and documentaries you choose!
Intro to Logic from Masterbooks is excellent and we did the videos and it was so wonderful and no prep for me. We did it in morning time.
I’d love to hear more on how you used the nature journaling book!
Can you make a video on the nature Journaling book? I have it but never implemented it. Thank you! Great videos as usual
Would love to see that too! I teach at a co-op! Would love to see how you set it up and what you do in the class!

I had never heard of that literature program😲

Could elaborate more about FIAR with another video? Maybe pick out a story and explain what you did? I just want to hear more about it!
I have a few videos like that, and I linked a “plan with me” in the description of this video! Hope it helps!
Would love to see a video about how you use some of the nature study lessons/ideas from John Muir-Laws' book!

Every child is different along with their learning styles!
Can you please record a video about long term planning and yearly planning?

It is a great fit for us, I love how gentle it is, she looks forward to it each time we sit down for math 🤍
@@RootedinRestGreat! Thank you so much for your quick response!

Would you give me information about the pet store math? That looks fun! Could you do a flup through of it?
Abby--Have you been able to get us a discount code for the Redefining School Middle School Literature class?
Yes! It’s REST5
@@RootedinRest THANK YOU SO MUCH!
