How To Build A Swing Set That Saves Space

  • Here's an easy way to build a space-saving swing set in your backyard. I'll show you how to build a make a rope swing using whiskey barrels also. This is a great way to make a rustic-looking swing that looks great and will last. You could use a wine barrel of course. I used polypropylene rope for this project since that will hold up well outside. I've got big plans for a backyard playground for my kids and this is just the beginning. Next comes the porch swing but I'm going to build a playhouse as well as a zip line. If you have any cool ideas let me know! 👍 SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/2Iy7PK3

Nice. I install commercial park equipment for a living. It's fun to see people's DIY playgrounds. The stuff we install is really nice but doesn't always seem like a ton of fun because of all the safety things that have to be added. Good job!

    One suggestion for the Future...
replace the lags with through bolts (STainless/Grade8), locking washers, a 1/4" plate on top so all 4 bolts per swinging mechanism each go through a hole on each corner of the plate, bolts long enough to use a) a second nut to lock the first, b) castle style nuts and locking wire as they do in aircraft construction, + Locktite and then spray it with a rust inhibitor gel so you can still inspect them periodically.
The concern is that while lags are likely going to be ok, if "swinging" becomes the next Parkour and your kids start 'swinging" for 4 hours a day, the energy from them swinging will, in part at least, transfer up through the chains, the swing mechanism, and then into the lags, as energy cannot be destroying only transferred in some way. The energy that is transferred will work to both unscrew the lags AND turn the blades on the lags screw into tiny saws that will cut through the wood fibers.
Routine inspection and tightening will help and if they only use it a few minutes every few days, it may never be a problem, BUT since I don't know the future AND others following this video may not realize to do this replacement for their "I'm going to become a professional swinging champion" kid (8+ hours a day swinging) it may be helpful for safety and maintenance reduction purposes.
    Cool build!
    God bless.

Love your videos. So interesting & informative with such creative ideas. You’re hilarious personality, great explanations, tips, animals & most of all teaching your children & creating these projects as a family make these videos all that much more inspiring & enjoyable.
Not only are you teaching so many people how to make these things, which is much appreciated btw but you are also demonstrating the importance of spending time with, doing things with & teaching our children how to do & build things.
There’s so much that we can all benefit in, in spending quality time together like this in which we often forget the importance in doing so.
Some of the best times in my life were of building things with my grandpa & dad. Now because of those times not only do I know how to do & build so many things that most women aren’t taught to know how to do. But I’m able to build things with confidence because I was taught correctly so I don’t have to depend on anyone for the most part to do what I already know how to do.
Now as I build, fix, repair, refurbish or help someone else, I often look back at the fond memories that I shared in learning many of the same things & more that I see you teach your children.
Thank you, your videos will too, inspire us to do the same with our children & grandchildren 🙏
