- In this Writing Retreat Vlog, I'm sharing a peek inside my solo getaway. If you're looking for a way to reconnect with your creativity, I hope you'll find the inspiration to plan a retreat of your own.
I'll show you what it was like to spend a long weekend at a hotel writing, editing, and relaxing. In this video, you'll get a glimpse into my creative world and what happened during my solo writing retreat.
Writing a book is like running a marathon. It requires determination, mental stamina, and a lot of encouragement.
But when our heads are down and we’re pounding the pavement, we can become so laser-focused that we forget to do things like breathe, reset, and take break -- the things that are essential to make it to the finish line.
Join me as I travel to Celebration, Florida, for a solo writer’s retreat. I hope that my adventure will encourage you to rediscover the inspiration that sparked the idea for your book or creative project.

Haha! Maybe, but it’s all genuine love. They haven’t paid me a cent, and no part of this trip was comped. I’ll always disclose that if it’s the case. Thanks for watching!
retreat looks calming!
I love it !❤
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your journey and.l adding value and inspiration to our writing lives. At this time retreats are for me (happily, gratefully) vicarious being that I have a toddler to look after. Videos like this feel like retreats themselves. Looking FWD to reading your book. One thing, try removing smartwatch when you write. Devices like phones and smart anythings are a privacy-sapping, frequently pinging and constant distractions.
Thank you for that kind comment and I'm happy that you can feel a bit of that retreat feeling through watching videos. In the meantime, your little one is lucky to have such a dedicated parent. PS, thank you for the tip about the watch! I *try* to keep notifications off my phone and watch as my default mode, but you are right. Even its presence can be a distraction at times!
This writing retreat is so insightful. I love finding ways in order to be fully immersed in creating, and a retreat sounds like a nice idea!
I agree! There's nothing better than getting immersed in your creative projects. Thank you for watching!
Girl I learned not to go to a place like that to write, check out nun convents seriously and search for silent retreats
Nun convents?! I'm intrigued.
This video was really soothing
Thank you, Sara! I appreciate you watching.
I use to check into nice hotels to write when I was working on my dissertation. Now I’m writing my first Novel and looking for nice spots. I’ll definitely check this one out. Thanks for sharing.😊
Congratulations! I'm so excited for you. What has been your favorite hotel that you've worked from?
@@michellehickeydesign Hyatt Regency Dallas. I stayed on a higher floor which gave me amazing views.I’m saving up to stay two nights at the Zaza hotel in Dallas once I finish my first draft. It gives off New York Times bestseller vibes. 🤩
@@Just-Lo-n8p I love how you think! "NYT bestseller vibes" is such a great aesthetic and now I want to adopt it.
I was in Dallas for a few days last month and stayed at The Adolphus. Also major goals. Here's a short I created from my stay if you want to peek. I'd even stop in there for a writing afternoon, just to sit in the lobby!

This is amazing, Michelle! A story in itself and you told it SO beautifully! I’m certainly inspired by your work. Thank you for sharing it!
Thank you, friend! I'm grateful that we get to be on our creative journeys together.
Looks like you're making amazing progress! We were on Captiva Island last week and I hoped to get some writing time in, maybe during one of those rainstorms, but we didn't have a single drop the whole week! I'm definitely not complaining--the weather was absolutely beautiful and it was a very refreshing week. My dream is to spend a week there ALONE one of these days as a private writing retreat. Thank you for sharing this--it was very inspiring!
Glad you were able to get away-and to such a beautiful place. But no rain?! So un-Floridian-like. I'm so grateful to have you as a writing friend! Thanks for your kind words and encouragement, Amanda!
Thank you Michelle for your insight to getting rest and refocus. Taking my camera camping this weekend along the sandy shore of Lake Michigan, the intention to look deeper on my walks and see the beauty in small natural details. Learning to create motifs in Illustrator, and drawing does not come naturally to me. One step at a time. There's no timeline to learn and practice, just doing it. Intentionally.
That sounds dreamy, Maureen! And I'm with you. When we do new things, it never feels natural at first, but you ease into it and get better, as long as you show up. Hope that your time in nature fueled your energy!
