Nice observation simmi gupta. If you noticed if the force is acting away from the joint we r saying it as a tensile force. But it is from the reference of joint. Now if the force is away from the joint then from the reference of member also it will act as a tensile force. Basically we are taking joint reference just for the sake of calculating the member forces. But the force nature will be as per the member reference only.
