I had a job in which I was lucky enough to occasionally get tickets in the Diamond Club at Minute Maid Field. Seats were always right behind home plate, first or second row. More than a couple of times, I had seats next to or right behind Nolan and his wife. I never bothered him, but damn that was cool. Cooler than sitting next to former President Bush, too.
I was lucky enough to be at the Fight game. That was Nolans best last game. The place just went crazy! I have a bunch of pictures from my film camera.:)
I remember being at the Big A when Nolan Ryan was pitching for the Angels, there would be about 15,000 people and eventually we would creep from the upper deck to the field level seats, great memories as a kid growing up in Orange County.
Nolan was my favorite baseball player. Even though i did not watch alot of baseball. But i did finally get to see him in person. When he was inducted into the hall of fame. Also, Robin was the only player to get four or five hits in one game against Nolan.
That interview made my day. I spit out my coffee when he said that McCovey and Winfield were a handful! Rich, we're about the same age and your questions to Nolan had the same tone that I would've had. I felt like a kid listening to this interview! I'm a lifelong Dodger fan. Fernando Valenzuela is my Dodger Blue hero, but my favorite all time pitcher was Mr Ryan. The greatest I ever saw. I know Bob Gibson was similar but never saw him play. I'm so glad baseball is going to be back. I just wish that old school pitching came back with it. Starters going 4 or 5 innings is a joke.
Not just a joke... an atrocity. Pitching by committee is just another stupid byproduct of analytics. Management has become so terrified of their starters facing a batter more than twice, that nowadays facing them more than ONCE triggers a panic attack... because those computer-formulated percentages keep them up at night. I'm so glad I am old enough to remember baseball in its golden years. I hated Fernando, but only because he was so dominant. A Phillies fan is genetically incapable of liking the Dodgers. haha
12 one hitters ain't shabby either but his no hitters and K Os are unbeatable records I got to see him pitch a couple times at old turnpike stadium other than nights when he was pitching tickets were easy to get and cheap
I was lucky enough to be at Nolan’s last game in Seattle. We really thought we had a chance to see him throw his 8th no-no. Instead it ended up being the last time he was on the mound 😢😢
Listen... I will *always* ride with my city and the White Sox. With that said... this is a historic L I can't deny. Trust me... I really want to deny it 😩. Everytime I hear this story I feel like I'm in that Nolan noogie
Bob Gibson used to tell hitters he was going to hit them prior to doing it! But Bob was a Golden Glove Boxer and I don't think anyone would have tested him. But the greatest punch from a pitcher came from an Indiana boy named Keith Shepard also a former Golden Glove Champion when he knocked Rueben Sierra's teeth out during a Spring Training Game!
Nolan Ryan, a Great Native Son of The Republic of Texas.🤠🙏
I'm not a fan struck person ever. But I'd be down meeting Ryan. GOAT for sure.

His career strikeout total is literally INCOMPREHENSIBLE 5,714 ⚾️

Nolan was the Larry bird of baseball....
I'd say he's the Lebron of baseball. Great stats, very few championships to show for it.

Nolan is the man!!
I had a 12 game pass to the Rangers that year(Live in Arlington) the electricity that night was crazy.. I will never forget it.

If you ask me the first thing I remember when hearing the name Nolan Ryan, 7 No Hitters!
5000 Ks too, I remember when Winfield went nuts lol Would love to see McCovey incident

Old Man Strength!
Dave Winfield. Whole 'nother thing.
Not much happened with Dave Winfield charging. He threw a punch and Nolan dodged it then they kind of locked up.
My first Met game w my Dad...Nolan was pitching. Odd Couple movie scene filmed at Shea that game !
Best fireballer i ever saw and i saw some really good ones. Winfield and McCovey? Jesus. Only missin Andre Dawson.
I saw Nolan pitch twice. Once for Houston and once for Texas.
Listen... I will *always* ride with my city and the White Sox.

the #1 Texas Ranger
The only way as anyone remembered Ventura . Just a sidebar for Ryan.
he also hit a grand slam single
Bad move by Ventura. Last guy to fight is Ryan.
DAVE WINFIELD!?
*spit take*
Has a pitcher ever admitted to throwing at a guy? hah

@bobferrell8187 looking at Shepard's career stats, he probably should have stuck to boxing lol
Nolan Ryan has admitted he wanted to “set the tone”. He’s even admitted to hitting guys he knew would bunt.
Ask him about Dave Winfield charging…..he wasn’t quite as brave….ol Nolan said no thanks.
After that Nolan went on the offensive against mound crashers. Life long white sox fan but ventura earned that beat down. Dont mess with Texas.
He didn’t back down. In fact he’s talked about how Dave Winfield charging made him change his outlook on batters charging.
