  • My guest for this episode is Jeff Purtle.
Jeff is systematic. As a student of the legendary Claude Gordon, Jeff was taught more than just how to play the trumpet. Jeff absorbed Claude’s passion for teaching and his knack for helping students develop a systematic approach to daily practice. Jeff is thoughtful, insightful, and a lifelong learner. And he is always willing to help others find a better way.
Check out what Jeff has to say about creating digital content, how he began studying with Claude Gordon, Claude Gordon's teaching style, his big takeaways from his time with Claude Gordon, the benefits and pitfalls of teaching trumpet online, adjusting teaching styles, the most important things to practice, important method books, newer and lesser known method books, keeping up a personal practice routine, and so much more.
So pour yourself a big glass, pull up a chair, and let the hang begin!

Coming to the Internet teaching game relatively recently, I found it really interesting to hear Jeff talk about the development of the technology. You were riding the first wave, for sure. I've enjoyed all these interviews--thanks for doing them Jose! CS

@@slidegrease I’m so thankful for you as a teacher. You taught me the value of being a nice easy to get along with guy. I don’t do it all the time but everyone that ever has met you has said how nice and cool you are and easy to work with. The world of trumpet players needs more guys like you that are not alpha male top dog lead trumpet players. I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. Jose should interview you or maybe you plus a few of us that know you or have worked with you. Malcolm McNab spoke so highly of you at the 2016 ITG. I love you and you were one of the best things about CSUN.

@@JeffPurtle Hello Again, you made my day! thank you so much. I remember well our time together and how much I enjoyed the time together. I liked so much that you were already such an accomplished player when we met, I'm sure I learned as much from you as you did from me. That we were both fans of Claude gave us something in common. And we used that knowledge as a springboard to discover other methods and techniques. Love you back and here's to Claude and your keeping his memory alive and relevant.
