Heidi, Girl of the Alps(1974) : A masterpiece which is known for Miyazaki Hayao single handedly drawing entire layouts for all the episodes for the first time and probably the last in the history of Japanese animation. Also, a year before the actual production of this anime, the production team flew to Switzerland and Germany to conduct meticulous research and they managed to provide convincing backgrounds, art, and depictions of daily life that even foreign viewers could watch the show without noticing anything off. It was the first attempt of overseas location research in the Japanese animation history and it was done right in every aspect. So, when this work was exported to Europe and achieved tremendous success in the mid-1970s, no one noticed that it was a Japanese animation. It became a catalyst for future masterpieces produced by Nippon Animation, leading to the creation of the World Masterpiece Theater series, which included numerous works such as Dog of Flanders, Anne of Green Gables, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, and Little Princess Sarah Mazinger Z series(1972 - on going (latest : 2018)) A monumental series in the history of Anime as it is the origin of the super robot genre and it's the Anime that established the basis of the current animation production system in Japan, which involves sponsors, broadcasters, and toy makers, etc. It's a cool show. If you like fighting Anime, highly recommend watching it. Space Battleship Yamato Series(1974 - ) An Anime that led the first Anime boom in Japan. It spawned numerous imitators and became a legendary work in the history of Japanese animation, alongside Mobile Suit Gundam, Macross, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was widely acclaimed as a masterpiece of SF animation and has left many depictions and settings that have been parodied or paid homage to in numerous works since then. Mobile Suit Gundam series is a famous example of it. Sunrise staff themselves acknowledged that they used Space Battlship Yamato as a benchmark for creating the gundam series. Gundam series(especially 0083 and 00), Macross, Ashita no Joe, Hoku to no Ken, Akira, City Hunter, The King of Braves GaoGaiGar, Rose of Versailles, Slam Dunk, Slayers, Future GPX Cyber Formula, Initial D, Kare Kano, Great Teacher Onizuka, Romeo x Juliet, Kino no Tabi, Air, Kannon Remake, Clannad, Violet Evergarden
Wow that's a thorough comment haha. Haven't heard of quite alot of those but I appreciate all the suggestions I'll look through them and add some to my watchlist if they pique my interest. If you skipped the explanation earlier on I watch all my anime based on a spin wheel that has every show I wanna watch on it so if any weren't on my table it could mean I do wanna watch it but my spinwheel just hasn't landed on it yet. There's around 80 anime on the spinwheel currently and some are hundreds of episodes long so I have a long way to go but I'll keep the channel posted when I do watch new anime. One older one you mentioned that I did watch is evangelion that I recently finished, was a really solid anime. Appreciate the support I'll give your recommendations a Google and see what they're like ❤️.
I've only watched the first 20 episodes so far but it was going too slow for me compared to the other anime I've watched. I am definitely going back to it at some point to finish it once I've had a bit of a break from it though I expect it'll speed up a bit later on.
Yeah it did end up being long haha, I thought I'd do it more like a review of each anime as well as a tier list so the comments wouldn't just be people asking me to explain all the placements as much. Recorded it all in one sitting as well I was going for nearly 7 hours I trimmed a fair bit off haha. Took me an hour just to do all the timestamps but it'll make it alot easier so people can skip around to the anime they mainly came to see.
