with the bases like the rungs and together with
deoxyribose sugar and a phosphate make a nucleotide
Deoxyribonucleotides are the monomers
link them up together for the DNA polymer
Point three four nanometers marks the space between
one nucleotide and the next one's place
And for the helix to make one turn takes
10 bases in a row as you can discern
Since space 'tween nucleotides is point three four, one
turn takes nanometers three point four

The nitrogenous bases comes in one of four varieties,
Known by the letters A, T, C and G
A is for Adenine, Thymine's got the "T"
C it stands for Cytosine and Guanine's got the "G"
A and G with two nitrogen rings are purines
C and T with one ring are pyrimidines
C only bonds with G, A only with T
Because like puzzle pieces they're complementary
They fit together. snuggled up like hand and glove,
like enzymes and substrates, like people in love
A-T, C-G, matched up like lock and key
Forming hydrogen bonds, either two or three.
Hydrogen bonds, you know they aren't very strong,
But they're enough to hold DNA together all day long
The way the bases fit together couldn't be sweeter,
they give DNA a width of two nanometers
DNA's double stranded, looks pretty swell
The strands' orientation is anti parallel
With one standing up, the other on its head
It's how they fit together, Crick and Watson said!

This 4.33 minutes songs explaination is so much easier to understand than the explaination of my biology teacher in school, and it fits perfectly for repeating. Also the hook is definitly an earworm, although i cant spell deoxyribonucleic acid. :-) So keep your work up!

My biology teacher's first name was Cookie. As in, it was on her license (I, for one,demanded to see it and she happily complied). She was this tiny, adorable, blonde, middle aged lady who was always grinning. She always had control of my otherwise detention-bound class. Everybody passed her class and an unprecedented number of us aced it.
She did shit like this. Because she genuinely loved science. And wanted us all to love science too. I never had to ask her for help. I never had to struggle. She handed me my brain and said "this is fun!" I went from a delinquent, defiant kid to a STEM. Because of Cookie.
I hope you’ve told your teacher all of these things. It will mean a lot to her!

You are absolutely the type of unique and justly qualified teacher that had such a dense and life-altering academic impact on my own education way back when in the 90's and early millennium that drove me to study psychobiology, emphasis in behavioral neuroscience. I thank you immensely from the bottom of my heart for your commitment to these kids' science education. I remember opening my Biology paper a good few years ago and one of the first questions asked you to fill in the compliments of different bases for a length of DNA. I was literally the only person in the class who got it right and I can only thank you for that

Yes! I've already written the lyrics. But the graphics are tricky--I'm going to have to learn a bit of Illustrator (or meet a good animator) to pull it off. Also, I have two more videos about climate change in the cue, then one one meiosis, then one on the Krebs cycle...So "DNA Replication probably won't go on line until this summer at the earliest.
