  • I was fortunate enough to join John as he burned off his native grasses. A mix of prairie grass and switch grass that has a thick layer of dead grass also called mat. Small animals such as rabbit, turkey and pheasant chicks just can't maneuver in the thick mat and deer don't like to bed in it. There is alternatives like mowing but nothing beats a good burn off just like when lightning used to set fires in western prairies. Some of this grass is 20 years old and with fire breaks in place, good weather and a professional wild lands fire coordinator the day was boring! Which is a good thing.

Falied to mention that deer love to come in and eat the ash after a fire or burn. They should have done strip head fire's or ring fired it. Grass is too easy. Try palmetto's and heavy brush. :-)

We ALL ought to consider the possibility of making it a FEDERAL, and STATE LAW, that ALL Land that is kept or restored to good Wildlife Habitat, ought to be COMPLETELY TAX FREE!!!!! .........(Think about this!!!)............

Although in Michigan we do get tax breaks for entering the property into programs such as forestry, crp and wetland protection. Breaks though not free unfortunately

I liked your perspective. I would ask that you specify your actual training. Structural with burn training or Wildland with RX training etc.. There are prescribed fire councils and prescribed burn associations which will help with burn plans and burning.

Thank you for the comment. Ive completed level 1 S190 is all. The reason I didn't go into more is that I like to keep the videos overall minutes below 5 mins. I have to cut a lot of content whether the is good or not. I need to further my training, the opportunity for the hands on training and certification are very limited

Dr Beth Shultz says, there is far more scientists saying untold harm is occuring to climate, ecosystems and humans than saying otherwise. Our Winter periods are not wet or overcast these days , leading to fuel load failing to decompose. Why is this? Climate change. Whats caused CC? Burning. Bush, Indonesian rainforest, Amazon rain forest, coal, petroleum . So terrible you are burning Karri, something NAtive Australians never did

His couple of acres burned aren’t doing any harm to the environment. Wealth inequality between Amazonian countries and the rest of the world is the root cause of rainforest burning.
