You know what I love most about this movie? Sarah Connor's vulnerability. I love that she was written as a waitress in her 20s with no particular ability to survive the events in the movie. The character finds her strength and her courage through good storytelling and character progression. It's more believable than how they would write her nowadays. If she was perfect to begin with, it gives her character no room to change and grow. What I absolutely love about T2 is Cameron flips the script and writes her as a person who survived the first film and became too hard and distant. Her arc is reversed. When she is unable to kill Miles Dyson, she discovers her humanity and vulnerability again. She decides she cannot kill a man in front of his son and that there are some things she wont do to prevent judgement day. It is fucking epic level storytelling.
It's called what a real strong female character looks like that anyone can enjoy and be a fan of the character sadly nowadays most feminist aren't smart enough to write a deep female character so they just make them act like a man

Not anymore, he's not. He's turned the role into a joke now. James Cameron's direction was what made Arnold so formidable as a Terminator. Without him, Arnold's Terminator hangs curtains & uses teenage retorts.

The idea of robots/computers taking over the world has been a thing longer than computers have been around in the 1950s and such. People were afraid computers were going to be our downfall well before this movie came out in 1984.
What a lovely happy ending. So satisfying that they defeated The Terminator once and for all in this final scene. I'm glad nothing tragic happened after this.
I wish they would return to this style a back to basics terminator. The humor is subtle and it’s never pandering. Arnold is at his best as a bad terminator the way he moves and his delivery are fantastic.
@@jamesmcnair857 T2 is great, but I still prefer T1, just my personal taste. The T800 Arnold portrait was so raw and violent and without emotion. Chill gives me chills :)

Not buff but obvoiusly though and in form. Henriksen would have obviusly been a T 1000 but I recall they didnt have the tech for something like that so they did it in 91 with whos IMO a perfect cast for the T 1000. Arnie playing a human would be just all wrong.

The creepy, depressing atmosphere makes every moment in this film. Imaging a cold blood killer came from nowhere and chased you by killing your friends, your mother and everybody around you until the end of the earth. How terrify is that? Arnold's burned eyebrows, decomposed bio-skin and crash damage did make him looks like a devil. Camero really emphasized the horror movie feeling out of it. Really really good job.
Best Terminator movie and I felt the same way since I was a kid even with all the sequels . 2 wasnt scary nor suspenseful enough but still pretty good. I just love this one for being so dark and scary. Salvation gave the same Dark feel even though people didnt like it much. For me atleast Salvation didnt give off some hilarious funny vibes . Dark and serious.
@Jeff Clark I was 12 when T2 came out. Seen it opening weekend. I think having the T1000 OP was good. Made you keep wondering how they would beat it. Same as part 1 . You had a regular human taking on a killing machine that seemed indestructible. You are right that both movies did have a different tone. T1 definitely had a horror movie feel. Where as T2 was more scifi action. I always felt T2 was the superior movie tho. Better acting, better effects, better soundtrack. Story equality as good as the original. I will always love both tho. T2 was also rated R. So to say it was made for teens is inaccurate. Or else it would of been pg13 like T4 .
Honorable opinion. Personally I choose T2 over T1 but this movie is definitely worthy of being called a masterpiece. Beaten only by T2. The rest are garbage.
Just like the Predator I loved the first one but I hear people loving the 2nd one more and I'm like 😑🧐 really.......? Then Predators came out and I liked because it went back to the Dark tone but then the one that was made by the director that made IRONMAN3 came out ......then I lost HOPE😭

Terminator was one of the few movies we had at home back when I was a kid, watched it a thousand times, actually grew up with it, all of the sounds, musics, dialogues everything is in my unconscious mind, I didn't know English I watched with subs, but still . Now that I watch its clips I can understand what was the actual words they said,
wow, this movie is my favorite movie ever, I know everything about it because I've watched it more than 100 times. it's all engraved in my head too, I just need to learn English.
The one element you don't see in the other terminator movies is how the terminator's flesh starts dying after being damaged. It's a nice detail they put in to add to the realism of flesh over metal endo-skeleton.
Every time I see these clips, (this is the fourth one in a row) it just reminds me how The Terminator (1) definitely feels like an 80s horror movie. Its an absolute classic. The look, the feel, and DEFINITELY the music all add to that, for me. Oh, and I will NEVER forget the first time I saw this, i was 6 years old, and when he came out of the fire as a robot, it just blew me and my whole families minds! Never seen ANYTHING like it up to that point.❤
I like how they made the stunt driver playing the terminator wear a red light on his head to be consistent, its a nice detail. If you look closely at 1:59 you can see it stuck on above the drivers eyebrow.
Just imagine 14-yrs-old me -- having picked up this film only for its popularity and without any other spoiling info at all, let alone the demonic skelton -- feeling "what a film I just saw…" with a sigh of relief being soothed by the concluding BGM in disguise.
T2 couldn't have been a more different movie to The Terminator. One is a relentless horror thriller, the other is the touching story of a boy and his pet Terminator. It baffles me how people rank both so closely without realizing how wildly different they are.

Honestly their worst move was running into that factory after, if they kept running down the road it was limited to walking speed and wouldn't be able to catch up or blend in as a person anymore
The really quick shot of the Terminator's face while the truck is blowing up is just *chefs kiss* cinema, and then having Kyle walk out of the smoke and fire to fake us out a little bit before the actual fake out. Great stuff.
Anyone who has been drunk in LA & was mowed over by a truck driver appreciates this. One time while staggering along the Ninth Street Viaduct bridge I had to do the same thing after getting run over by a Swift driver. Good thing I had my Labor Ready steel-toed boots on (@0:25), otherwise I wouldn't have survived.
This is my favorite Terminator movie. T2 was the best film of the franchise b/c the story had more depth to it, but I favor this one more. This film has a horror movie vibe. Like for examples the arm and eye surgery seen, Reese's nightmare flashback of the Terminator infiltrating the resistance's hidden bunker, the tanker foot chase and the T800 chasing down Sarah and Reese in that factory. Plus this T800 model was extremely intimidating(huge stature, never smiled, no eyebrows in certain scenes, popped eye zombie look), rarely spoke and had a more badass look carrying both a shotgun and a assault rifle simultaneously while sporting cooler looking sunglasses and hair style. This T800 model is what a Terminator should be. An ultimate unstoppable badass killing machine with no regard of fear, remorse, or pity.
Imagine Kyle did survive right there. He could of been a useful asset, on judgement day. Having the T-800 & Sarah helping him defend john corner. Against the T-1000 it would be awesome lol
40 years old, it's amazing to imagine what it was like making these effects back then. People think "oh look at the state of the art blockbuster of 40 years ago, not bad!" but this wasn't even a blockbuster type film then. It was low budget even for the time.
+Simply Nonsense Well, the truck they used for that part was a model, including the one that explodes. In fact, I heard that it took two tries to get that truck explosion scene, and it took the special effects people about a month to build each one. The first one ended with a disaster, as the cable pulling the model truck was pulled too hard, and caused the front wheels to come right off. No joke. Just watch the behind the scenes documentary of the movie, and you'll see.
It's not just that, but the front of the cab, which was damaged from hitting both the overturned truck and the Gremlin, was miraculously repaired at the time it exploded. Great special effects for the time though!
1:28. The increasing music tone, the hulking tractor trailer making the aggressive u-turn, the glowing red eye: really ratchets up the suspense in a hurry.
I really love the fact that the make-up in this movie was suposed to look "terrific" since the terminator is the bad guy, and besides this was supposed to be kind of an Horror Movie. While in the second one even if the wounds on his face are worst than here, they put effort on try to make it look so cool.
This movie is a classic that has stood the test of time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is still the main man of this iconic role. 🙏🏾
He's a legend we love him so much and we will keep supporting him.
@Charles Walliburton To be fair Arnold started this franchise but Robert definitely was a great second coming to the story, in my eyes they're both equally badass
Not anymore, he's not. He's turned the role into a joke now.
James Cameron's direction was what made Arnold so formidable as a Terminator. Without him, Arnold's Terminator hangs curtains & uses teenage retorts.
@Charles Walliburton jesus christ why robert? Don't you like linda hamilton? She played as sarah connor.
@Charles Walliburton I agree.
Really a masterpiece. Deserves an oscar every year
It's amazing how well this movie was made. I wasn't alive when it came out, but wow, just imagine seeing this in theaters for the very first time. Must have scared alot of people and made them think about what was really possible with government programs

Also Michel Bein for the win. Best protagonists for any terminator movie.
They literally can't make em this good anymore. T1, Alien, Aliens, Predator all better then the shit i see nowadays.

The terminator face when he is on the truck. Bro it is perfect so real
Fun fact for those who don't already know.
Arnold was originally supposed to be Kyle and Lance Henriksen was gonna be the Terminator.
Well Im glad they went in a different direction. Post-apocaliptic soilders from the future eating rats dont have many gyms and protien powders at their disposal. Reese looks the part. Not buff but obvoiusly though and in form.
Henriksen would have obviusly been a T 1000 but I recall they didnt have the tech for something like that so they did it in 91 with whos IMO a perfect cast for the T 1000. Arnie playing a human would be just all wrong.

O.J Simpson was nearly cast in The Terminator but producers didn't think he could be sold as a killing machine
Arnold Schwarzenegger recalled how O.J. Simpson nearly landed his iconic role in "The Terminator." In a Netflix docuseries, Schwarzenegger said "no one" thought Simpson could play a killer.
@Jeff Clark T2 was the perfect way to end the franchise. T3 was made for teens.
T2 is the best, and it did have the scary feel, but not as intense as the first. The 2 films still feel like they are connected however.
This movie never gets old.
The makeup and effects are soooo successful that I moved the screen forward not to be scared while reading comments. And it's just 1980's! Great job! T1 and T2 are simply masterpiece!
Whoever made this has never been around a campfire. Standing that close to a fire that big and raging would melt your shins off.

The burning man in burn suit act? Wasn't there one guy who was famous for doing that in most Hollywood movies or something in the 90s.

The editing is top notch. Look at how many camera angles Cameron used for the Terminator getting hit by the truck. And the editing makes it absolutely fascinating.
I love how they make you think it's over, they even play the ending music... xD
The one element you don't see in the other terminator movies is how the terminator's flesh starts dying after being damaged. It's a nice detail they put in to add to the realism of flesh over metal endo-skeleton.
This along w the scene from earlier where he ‘fixes’ his eye scared the shit out of me when I was younger
That was the Terminator's glowing eye since earlier he removed the eye he was disguised with and put sunglasses on to disguise it.

@Adam Oliver Agreed, they're both masterpieces in their own rights though.
T-1000 what were you doing after you failed to kill John Connor?
T2 couldn't have been a more different movie to The Terminator. One is a relentless horror thriller, the other is the touching story of a boy and his pet Terminator. It baffles me how people rank both so closely without realizing how wildly different they are.

Forgot that huge scary and strong as fuck exoskeleton at the end of the movie I could definitely see it inside Arnold's skin no joke.
T1 and T2 is Masterpiece!
Imagine Kyle did survive right there. He could of been a useful asset, on judgement day. Having the T-800 & Sarah helping him defend john corner. Against the T-1000 it would be awesome lol
I think there’s a comic based on that. As far as I know, Kyle still ended up dying protecting a 10 year old John from another T-800
I always dream and imagine T2 with him alongside

40 years old, it's amazing to imagine what it was like making these effects back then. People think "oh look at the state of the art blockbuster of 40 years ago, not bad!" but this wasn't even a blockbuster type film then. It was low budget even for the time.

You can see a slack tow cable after it hits the Gremlin.
+Simply Nonsense
Well, the truck they used for that part was a model, including the one that explodes.
I saw that, too.
It's not just that, but the front of the cab, which was damaged from hitting both the overturned truck and the Gremlin, was miraculously repaired at the time it exploded.
Great special effects for the time though!
