      "I really underestimated the mechanical depth of this game and it kicked my ass" is how most people have been feeling after they actually started playing musou games instead of listening to those "reviewers" that for years kept saying "they're all the same just mash one button".

      @Sephyroth97 3 роки тому +12

      @@Coniptions 90% of Musou reviews in the past were made by people that refused to play the genre but after Hyrule warriors opened the series to a much larger audience they were forced to actually start. The consequence is now people are playing HW, AoC and this one and realizing that they're completely different aside from the basics of light and heavy attack to start combos and each game has a lot of mechanical depth going for it.
      A simple glance at One Piece Warriors 4 and/or Hyrule Warriors and even someone new like you will see a thousand differences in mechanics, hopefully you'll discover you enjoy musous in general :)

    • @dantemustdie00
      @dantemustdie00 3 роки тому +7

      Yeah if you go into this game thinking it was as easy as pre-Hyrule Warriors Musou titles, your gonna get fucked hard.
      Every Musou game sense Hyrule Warriors have added more complex mechanics that require proper timing, exploiting the enemies weakness, and using the terrain to your advantaged.
      This game is ESPECIALLY hard cause it's a Megaten game, which are all notorious for kicking your ass .

    (More gameplay tips below)
    Thanks for the great video. I was initially iffy on the combat in this game but now that I’ve seen the depth of the gameplay I am really enjoying it. There was two less significant aspects that I didn’t see covered in this video.
    1. The the skills used at the end of a combo are weaker than using the sp/hp requiring variants. Ex: when using the combo variant of defense up it lasts less than 30 seconds. However, the sp variant lasts over a minute. This also goes for healing skills. I haven’t checked attack skills but I would assume they are the same
    2. Physical and gun attacks require hp but upon use of the skill the amount of hp required to execute will be “greyed out” on your health bar and that hp will then be regenerated over time assuming you don’t loose any hp during the regen phase. This effectively means you can use the physical and gun skills infinitely and makes them great in boss fights since they are stronger than their combo variants.

I've spent hours trying to do it, learning the enemy attack patterns and i-framing through them seemingly frame-perfect at times, yet still that special slowdown is still something I have rarely ever triggered.
    It feels like there's something more to it than dodge timing. But maybe it's just an unusually tight window down to the actual frame you get hit or so.

    Here's some additional tips:
    1) Do not put Bond points into the top row on your first playthrough. The stat points are minuscule, and maxing out Joker's Wild, and the other talents on the bottom two rows will have a much larger effect on your gameplay. Bondmaker should of course be the first one you increase to rank 2.
    2) Max out Avenger on the BOND chart immediately. This allows the counter to trigger on auto-dodge and will make Masukukaja insanely powerful.
    3) Oracle Recovery, while useful, is a minimal effect with an extremely high cost. Just one point in it is satisfactory until you reach the point where you can level it again in 1 or 2 BOND levels.
    4) Ammo Hoarder is bad, don't put points in it.
    5) The four Persona Arts BOND skills as well as Proper Showman grant noticable upgrades, and can be a way to get a power boost if you're having problems in a jail.
    6) Getting the Divine Grace passive on personas like Sarasvati will double the heal output of the free heal.
    7) Get a Physical/Gun persona with high crit and you will melt end game bosses. Pretty much all of these bosses are heavily resistant to ailments, and hitting the weakness with a free persona strike normally does minimal damage. Instead, you should take advantage of the insane crit damage from critical hits and the fact that each critical shaves off a shield to stun lock bosses. Seth is an exemplary persona in this case since his 2-hit combo is Masukukaja and his 3-hit is One-Shot Kill.
    8) Mudo and Hama skills work on mini-bosses and are fairly cheap SP wise to spam. If you are ill-equipped to handle a particular boss, then spamming this skill might be cheaper than the heal skills you'd end up using. This strategy becomes the preferred one once you get access to Nebiros, who naturally comes with Mudoon and mudo boost as well as a free Mudoon on her 5-hit combo.
    9) Don't spend all your persona points over leveling an early game persona. The amount needed climbs in accordance to the number of levels above the level they are encountered at. Instead, focus on unlocking all of that Persona's unlockable skills and then trading up to a higher tier persona. Not only will you save Persona points, but the stat growth is normally in another league as well.
    10) Junk Collection requests are repeatable for absurd amounts of cash, and coupled with Packrat can net you hundreds of thousands of yen each trip into the jail on top of the amount earned by battling.

    • @MrGhosta5
      @MrGhosta5 3 роки тому +4

      I actually like oracle's recovery a lot as you can just heal the party and restore your sp by clearing out trash mobs.
      disagree when it comes to leveling early game personas as a lot of personas can be fussed by using a high level early game persona. The weird thing about early game personas is that they learn a lot of good skills that later personas don't. Rebel soul, technical adept, and soul thief are all really good early game skills that personas stop learning fairly early. Also for some reason summoning cost is heavily scaled to the personas base stats and increasing their stats and level only makes them slightly more expensive. my lv 32 arsene only cot 2.5k to summon but everything else around lv 30 cost me around 10-15k to summon. my level 15 jack o lantern cost 1.7k to summon but my level 12 slime cost 3.4k to summon. So you end up saving quite a bit of time and money as you don't have to chain summon multiple personas to get early game skills on your mid-late game personas.
      junk collection is a nice bonus but farming treasure demons is much faster. a single treasure demon in shibuya jail before any bonuses from extortionist is 30,000 and junk collection part 1 only gives 19,200. with treasure hunter and the security level high treasure demons are actually fairly common.

    • @CamperCarl00
      @CamperCarl00 3 роки тому +9

      @@MrGhosta5 Thanks for the reply, it will allow me to go into a bit more depth as to the reasoning behind my tips.
      1) Oracle Recovery is good, don't get me wrong that even netting 2 SP per battle is pretty big, but you have to weigh the bond skill cost and what it actually does in terms of upgrading it past the first rank. *You only gain 10 hp and 2 sp per battle for every rank, and the bond cost of Oracle recovery increases by 15/20/25.* This means you are spending 45 points to gain an extra 4 sp per battle. Putting these points into the bottom two rows for economy or maxing out Avenger/Joker's Wild has a much larger impact on your gameplay. In fact, having more money means you will probably buy more SP items and having more ranks in Metaverse Medic means they grant a lot more SP. I would recommend waiting until you get about 14-15 bond points per level for rank 2 and 19-20 points per level for rank 3 in terms of *when you should probably rank up Oracle Recovery.*
      2) So, while it is possible to level up a Persona like Andras or Arsene and potentially fuse skills like *Dodge Phys, Rebel Soul, Technical Adept,* etc, it is a lot less grindy to use your persona points to only level a persona up to when they learn their last ability ( _excluding Arsene and some later personas that require lv90 for their last ability_ ). If you are properly developing your economy BOND skills, then yen shouldn't be a problem. Grinding out for these persona points is exponentially easier as you progress through the game if you are properly fusing personas. For example, my lv72 Kali costs 44,289 yen to summon, but will yield 253,798 persona points. Conversely, my lv40 Pixie only costs 1,749 yen to summon but only yields 2,831 persona points. It took significantly more persona points just to get that Pixie to level 40 than it did to get my Kali. Leveling up both of these persona at this point are about equal despite the massive difference in level, stats, growth, and persona point value. *This isn't to say that you shouldn't level up lower level persona eventually since some are needed to fuse end-game personas,* but its much better to actually do so once you reach the point where you can adequately farm for persona points and yen.
      Also, as an aside, *fusing skills up into other personas has the benefit of them technically carrying more than the standard 8 skills per registry.* This is because you can save them with inherited skills in the registry, and when you summon them for fusion material, you can adjust any skills they learn naturally through leveling up before actually fusing them. Leveling up a single persona to fuse into much higher personas will very rarely work out, and normally has a much easier fusion that wouldn't require several hundred thousand persona points to accomplish.
      3) The real question is *why not both?* You generally need to do fights in order to get a treasure demon to spawn, and both are pitifully cheap bond point wise by the time they unlock. If anything, I would say that Packrat is more of a passive way to increase your income where as Treasure Hunter makes actual farming more efficient. Treasure Hunter is a lot more important in the post-game as you can level quickly by hunting them.

    I noticed that a lot of bosses resist ice and I think that was supposed to balance him somehow, but it evidently did not work. He is the crit king, and crits do damage to boss shields. Further, I think that auto-dodge activated for me way more on him than anyone else; in short, his agility (best stat in the game imo) is really, really good.

    Just as an added FYI for anyone basically swapping money for persona points, you can resummon and delete from the summon menu. just summon them press options button on playstation (or whatever corresponding button it is for switch/pc) and you can delete them right there and summon again. You can see at 6:34 that theres an option to delete right in the bottom right as hes hovering over forneus who he had just summoned. No need to back out and go into your menu to delete it then go back into the compendium to resummon.

      Your opinion is quite interesting if you consider that initially ATLUS wanted to turn the original P5 into an ARPG but decided against it because they didn't want to throw away all their years of experience making turn based JRPGs. This is, in a way, a little bit of what P5 would have been, not nearly the same of course but it gives a general idea.
      Musou spin offs tend to have a lot of effort put in, more than mainline Dynasty Warriors; some examples include OPW4 and DQ Heroes and of course HW, they all have very different mechanics and very little in common outside of the very basics of the combo system from which everything stems.

    another couple of small ones for if you want to move quick:
    Dash Slash movement: Alternate between dashing and your basic attack. Attacking lets you dash a lot more often.
    Jump Slash movement: a lot harder than Dash Slash for a small extra speed boost. Instead of attacking, jump and then dash VERY QUICKLY. Landing on the ground lets you dash basically immediately afterwards.
    These movement options are best used with Joker, with Makoto being a close second (due to their first attack in their combo being fast and having decent reach)
    To give you an idea of how little extra speed you get from Jump Slash compared to Dash Slash, the time it takes to get from the Bicorn Fight room to the waterway exit (with Joker) is 10 seconds with Jump Slash and 11 seconds with Dash Slash. But even Dash Slash is a lot faster than just casual dash speed (speed after pressing dash button), which takes at least 15 seconds to move between the same two locations.

    Game mechanics are great so far imo. Playing on a ps5 (graphics game mode) looks like doodoo on a 4k/hdr tv. Jagged edges are so bad you would think it’s just 720p scaled to fit. Frame rate seems pretty solid though (without actually measuring it). I suppose some hardcore p5 fans that loved the turn based combat may not like the combat change. I personally do. However, I like the changes of combat in Yakuza like a Dragon too (which went the opposite direction). :)

    junk collection is slow. junk collection part 1 in Shibuya jail gives 19,200 yen for collecting 15 items but killing 1 treasure demon gives 30k yen which can be boosted by extortionist for even more money. with treasure hunter and the jail security level close to max treasure demons spawn fairly regularly.
    personas used in fusions count as being dismissed and will give persona points when fussed.
    all persona fusions require the material personas be a minimum level. Most personas have many possible material combinations. You won't see a material combination in the list unless you have atleast one of the materials in the compendium. The missing persona will display ???? along side the minimum level needed. also you can open up the fussion page of a partially known fusion and look at the silhouette and stats of the unknown persona to figure out which persona you need.
    for example you won't see that you can fuse a lv 14 high pixie and a lv 34 legion to summon arsene until you have legion or high pixie in the compendium. once you register high pixie you'll see 2 new fusions for arsene that use lv 16 high pixie and an unknown persona. the lv 34 persona is legion and the lv 53 persona is bugs. once you register legion another combination for arsene that uses legion and an unknown persona will appear in the list.
    you can press square on PlayStation to collapse the summons list just show the summoned persona and then selecting the persona brings up the list of material combinations.
    A lot of personas can be summoned using high level early game personas. It's not practical to level early game personas but you may be able to fuse something really nice if a fusion accident gives you a high level persona with good skills. i managed to get curse boost on a lv 50 silky from a fusion accident and then fussed that silky into Nebiros.

    This stuff would've been really useful to know for the first boss. By midgame though, you get a bunch of sp healing, so you just spam the super effective technique until you get all out attack, then use all out attack. Rinse and repeat. Even Reaper was just use Ann to burn them, then Nuclear attacks for technical damage. I think the game might've been better if the only way to use techs were from combos.
