      I go somewhere for my tire work where they recommend 'all the things,' but I push back and ask lots of questions. Perhaps they might sometimes find me annoying, but it helps me sort out whether I *actually* need what they said. Or whether they're just supposed to tell me that, officially, because the alignment is only 99% perfect already. :) So for instance, I ask "what if" questions. "I know you can't guarantee what will happen here, but what would you expect to have happen if I...."
      Fortunately, for actual mechanic work, I have a straight-shooter shop who will only recommend what I actually need. And often won't charge me to look over a problem.

    Geena! Talk to your coworkers too! Have them check their own paychecks to see if they are also getting underpaid- the more people involved the more the company has to look into it. Also, yes I agree - call the labor board, and FL probably has a free law services company available so I would reach out to them as well. Have a job lined up or be prepared to find something fast though, the more noise you make, the more likely they are to let you go - best of luck!

    Geena, Get an attorney to write a letter - that does not require him to open a case with a retainer of $6,000. If you do not know an attorney, go to the volunteer legal aid services in your area and they help with people on limited budgets. I have posted this before and swore I was done posting, but apparently the RS "personalities" do not pay attention to the comments from people who know what really works in these kinds of cases. Forget about groups like the BBB and other similar institutions that people think will help. What will always bring the quickest action is to write the state business licensing board - attach a copy of your contract and a copy of your paystub (with important info like SSN removed) and state your case. That almost always bring action in these kinds of cases because the state licensing board investigates every complaint. While you are waiting for them to investigate this case, good luck finding a better job!

    I’m sorry but this idea of your mortgage or rent being no more than 25% of your take home is just not realistic in today’s times. My wife and I are out of debt and rent a 2 bedroom apartment for $1,700 a month. Everything else is $2500-3,000+ so we’re very lucky it’s only $1,700 and to be honest it’s not a great area so that’s why it’s cheap. I’m a firefighter paramedic and after taxes with no OT I take home $5,800 a month. 25% of $5,800 is $1,450. I’m already violating the rule. Fortunately I work a lot of OT but a OT shift for me is 24 hours so anytime I get any OT that’s another 24 hours I don’t get to see my wife , my 4 year old daughter or my 2 year old son. So it’s not without a cost. However we did save up quite a bit of money and we are in escrow for a house. I live in SoCal and the housing market is crazy expensive. But we have to move my kids can’t thrive here the 4 of us in a 2 bedroom and the area is increasingly more unsafe. So we gotta go. Bought a home that suits our needs perfectly in a rural safe area and put 52% down. No debt, Emergency Fund in place and can work 2 shifts extra per month to continue to save and put more margin into emergency funds, retirement and vacation. Wife is a nurse and works per diem but we homeschool so her place is at home with our children . But I’m fortunate that a 24 hour OT shift is 24 hours of OT pay but not everyone can do that and rent in the poorest most unsafe areas is 30-40% of a lot of people take home. It’s ridiculous. This system needs a massive crash and correction.

    • @PrincessLolly1
      @PrincessLolly1 Місяць тому

      Ramsey disagrees… it’s all about supply and demand. So while housing inventory of all kinds is low, locking in a mortgage vs ever rising rents will still be a smart move- property tax increases affect homeowners directly but landlords pass this cost onto the tenants anyway.
      You’re doing great!
      Hope you can back off the OT to have more family time soon. You AND your wife are going to burn out soon at this pace.

    • @Hellodaralyn

      A deposit is more like you’re having partial payment put down to ensure that you’re going plus they probably need the deposits to let the cruise line know how many people are actually coming. If they were to just have no deposit, there’s a higher probability of people not actually going so then it will give an inaccurate number of attendees. It’s like securing your spot and then you pay the rest, but I would not say that it is a debt thing.
