IMPORTANT PATTERN NOTE: I decided to make this mitten using the same Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Super Bulky yarn but in a different color (Wheat). The completed project turned out bigger than my original pattern. What I discovered is that most of the Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick yarn is 20% wool and 80% Acrylic but there are a few colors (like Wheat) that have a different fiber content. This pattern works best with the original 20/80 blend so check the label if you are making this pattern in a different color. - Thanks for watching everyone!
I just want to encourage you to keep doing tutorials. You are probably the best teacher I have seen. I'm 65 and just started crocheting a month ago and you are so detailed and articulate. I really, really appreciate you. I subscribed and look forward to seeing more.
Thank you for your very kind comment. The videos are a ton of work but I love designing and sharing my patterns. It is definitely comments like yours that keep me motivated. I am filming a new mitten pattern and hope to have it posted soon. Glad you found crocheting and are enjoying it.
Amazing tutorial! Your instructions are super clear and easy to follow. I love this pattern, very simple and great for beginners. I used a yarn a bit too small tho and made mittens for kids by accident but i will definitely be trying again and make some adjustments to fit my yarn! Thank you for the very helpful tutorial :)
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I am sure there will be a child who will appreciate them! Thanks for watching. I am working on a new mitten pattern right now that uses thinner yarn and hope to have it uploaded by December!
@susieinthecountry4434 thanks for checking out the video! I appreciate the feedback about the yarn and have had other similar comments so I will definitely use lighter yarn on future videos.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video. You had me worried so I just watched the video and you are definitely working in the front loop only. The front loop can be harder to identify when you are working in the slip stitch. The trick is to look at the row you just completed and identify the two loops before you turn your work. If you watch at 3 minutes 30 seconds into the video it goes over how to identify your front loop. Hope this helps. Happy crocheting.
I agree the back look is always the loop furthest away. The front and back look can be hard to identify when you are working slip stitches. In the video I am working in the front loop. The easiest way to find the loops is to look at them before you turn your work. I have a headband video on my channel where I do a similar technique with the slip stitch but work in the back loops if you would like to check it out. It creates a tighter ribbing. It is also much harder to work in the back loop of the slip stitch.
@morganjansen3651 glad you were able to figure it out. It can be difficult to identify and that is why it helps to look at the previous row. Thanks for watching.
These look fabulous and I love that yarn. Can you redo the video using a lighter colour? I think they look amazing but injustice can’t see well enough. 😅
Making these videos is definitely a learning process. I have had a lot of comments about the yarn being too dark so going forward I am using lighter yarn. I just posted a new mitten pattern using light yarn which should be much easier to see. I would definitely like to redo the video one day with lighter yarn but It takes weeks to film and edit the videos so not sure when I will have the time 😁Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback it helps me improve my videos. ❤️🧶
Love this easy pattern for mittens. It would have been beneficial if you had used a light color yarn for instructional purposes. It’s very difficult to see. Your verbal instructions are great though. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedbacks. Other people have said the same thing so I will definitely be using that advice and changing to lighter colour yarn in the future. Thanks for watching!
Just made these mittens. Love them, but next time I'll make the wrist smaller. Where can I find the written pattern? I could not find it on you tube or Etsy.
Thanks for your comment. I am in the process of writing out all of the patterns from my UA-cam channel and making them available in my Etsy shop. You have inspired me to do this one next! I should have it available in the next week or so. Thanks for watching.
I'm sad...I just finished up the last round and weaved in my ends and tried it on before starting the thumb and I must have big hands because it's too short on me. Did I do something wrong? Used 5 bulky yarn and 7 mm crochet hook.
@lainieclarke845 don’t worry too much about the name. All you need to know is that you are only working under a single loop and it is going to be the loop that is easiest to access and closest to you.
If you were working in the round it would be called the back loop but when you are working in rows and you turn your work the back loop becomes the front loop on the other side. It is the front loop because it is the loop closest to you.
I have absolutely no idea if you'll still reply but I was wondering if u could help me with making this for someone with a bigger wrist? My dad is more comfortable with 36 rows instead of 30 and in kind of lost on how to change the pattern for that
In row 1 you would need to do the sequence 6 times instead of five so you have 24 stitches when you finish Row 1 instead of 20. You then need to add 4 extra stitches to each row. Once you get to the thumb hole (row 4) try it on you Dad’s hand and see where you need to add the 4 extra stitches ( before the chain or after) or you might need two before the chain and two after. Hope this helps.
If we were to decrease the number of rows to make the wrist a little smaller does that change everything else as well? For example when making the single crochets in every other row
I actually made this with another yarn and made the wrist smaller, as you suggest, but kept the rest of the pattern the same and it worked. The only other thing you have to change slightly is row 1. Just do a row of 20 single crochet as evenly as possible. Thanks for watching.
And just to clarify, you make the wrist smaller by decreasing the rows at the beginning not the chain? Also when you say row 1 is that the chain row or the row after the chain?
To clarify I chained the same but did two less rows to make the wrist tighter. When I said 20 sc in row one I meant the first row of the body of the mitt. Hope that answers your question. You could also change the wrist height my starting with a shorter chain.
Yes that is correct! Still do 20 sc but just eyeball it and evenly distribute them around row 1 in the body of the mitten. Good luck! Let me know how it works out.
Thanks for your interest in the written pattern. At this time I don’t have any crossover between Etsy and YpuTube but do plan on writing out my UA-cam patterns in the future.
This pattern is made with a super bulky yarn (6). A 4 weight is a lot lighter so would make them much smaller, probably child sized. If you want to use a different yarn substitute with something of similar weight.
Yes if you use a thinner yarn you will have to adjust the pattern to compensate. I would suggest using a super bulky yarn the fist time you do the pattern and then you can p!ay around and adjust the pattern using a thinner yarn.
Hi! I watched your very easy to understand video but I am confused as to why it says “Baby Mittens”. Isn’t the video showing an adult-sized mitten? Also, does a pair only take one skein of Wool Ease Thick and Quick?
Oh my! It should not say baby mittens. Is that in the video? I used the baby mitten video as a template so perhaps forgot to change that. Thank you so much for letting me know. I used left over yarn that I had so not exactly sure but I would estimate 1 to 1.5 skeins of wool.
@@woodcampercrochetcrafts Thank you for your quick response! I shall purchase two skeins to be safe. I only have one skein in my stash. I’m so excited to make a pair for myself because my hands get very cold shoveling snow and these look nice and thick! Also, now I know what to make everyone for Christmas, 2023!
That is good to know. Thank you very much for the feedback. I have a new video coming up that I added more lighting to and tried to do more close up shots so hopefully that makes it easier to see. 😁
When working in the round one does not chain 1 and turn at the end of the row but your written instructions say to do this (reference row 2-3). It's very confusing! The pattern is lovely though and makes a really warm and soft mitten.
Oh know! I was confused by your comment, so I went back and watched my video, and you are indeed correct! I have a typo in the written instructions (a copy and paste error). Thank you so much for letting me know. Unfortunately I can't edit the video now that it is posted but I will be sure to leave a note in the description letting the viewers know. Thank you so much for noticing this and for letting me know!
I corrected the video and written pattern after receiving this comment so there should be no reference to chaining 1 and turning so you can disregard this now.
Definitely not! But your question did make me laugh so thank you. I only demonstrate one hand but before I demonstrate I show you the written instructions for both hands.
In the video I only demonstrate one side but I have provided the instructions for the left side in the video just before I start demonstrating the thumb hole. Thanks for watching.
