Maintaining economic growth is pretty much the only objective of the CCP. Not having access to the western internet is a drag but a VPN really solves that. Anyone who compares China to N Korea is living in a fantasy. Chinese people are well educated, can travel abroad, and their kids are free to attend western schools. The cities are vibrant. Their technology is rapidly catching up to the West and will soon surpass it. People criticize the government all the time, just not in large public groups.
