Thank you Mynda for yet another very useful video. Excel formatting is often challenging, but you made it so simple to understand and apply! Great going!
Rounded corners!?... We all love that visual aspect. As a matter of fact I've been using rounded corners and a small drop shadow on Notes in Excel consistently for a while now. Has a much more gentle look to it compared to those pointy corners. I'll add them to objects, too, from now on. Thanks, Mynda! 🙂
considering that excel isnt supposed to even remove background from images,it does a really well and good job at identifying and removing complex backgrounds giving the image you used for example. pretty neat and well done video, thank you for your time and work you take educating us.!
Great video. Visual presentation is my weakness in Excel. I always tell people "I know how to get S$%t done, but don't expect me to make it look pretty"
WOW! These are really great tips. I am going to save this video because I will not remember them all. Thanks for your efforts; the information is always beneficial. Mike
The navigation pane is activated from the View tab of the ribbon. If you have 365, then you have it. If you don't see it, then I'd say you're running a perpetual license that doesn't have this feature.
Very Nice, Mynda! Can you please explain how you put those icons on the Tabs? I don't think that I understood. I would love to implement them. Thank you also for always giving us the example file.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub Mynda, I paste these emojis they appear black on my Tabs not colored. We have Office 365 in the office so don't know what the problem is? Thanks
I used to do vb coding for my users that had excel and wanted data from the big databases. Back in 2008. Retired, I was pulled into bookkeeping for my church (something I never thought I'd do) I inherited 3 inter-connected files of multiple sheets in each. The main entry portion as you have described is really in a report format. Don't know how much longer I'll be doing this as my mentor (age 90) has decided to hang up her shoes. Over the past 16 years I have added other connections between these 3 gradually to make it more friendly for me. Looking to the future, I'd like to create a table that looks like the checkbook ledger and create a simple Entry form. Then that can feed the existing files. The church is down to less than 20 members, so I don't know who will pick up the tasks if I'm not available. What do you think? I really enjoy your videos, but in its current form, I can't make use of most of your tips. (I have however passed them on to my sister who manages the finance for her daughter's business)
Sounds like you're heading in the right direction to simplify the process. It's hard to give advice without all the information. For the simple entry form, you might find Excel Forms useful: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/gather-data-with-excel-forms

Need help... want grey running border for whole workbook irrespective of print area. However it should cover whole page layout. This is applicable to whole excel workBOOK containing multiple sheets
Not sure what you mean by 'running border', however excessive formatting will make your file large and slow, so it's not recommended to format more than the area you use.
how do I move and integrate the navigation pane on the left side like you have it? I have it on the right side. I can move it but then it stays like a separate island, it's not integrated within the excel page overall.
Please no with making column charts into shapes. The whole point of a chart should be to convey information visually but accurately. Fancy shapes interfere with our ability to process the relative sizes of the columns. Columns should be both proportional height AND proportional area. Anything other than a rectangle does make it harder to interpret accurately.
I agree for business reports, but for infographics we can be more playful. I did caveat that the shape chosen should not mislead the audience, so be careful which shape you choose. The area of a column does not impact the value e.g. a wide column or a narrow column makes no difference to the value it represents, only the height.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHubthat’s not how the human brain works. We see a wider shape as bigger, no matter what the scale might say. Choosing any shape other than equal width rectangles WILL mislead, so “choose a shape that doesn’t mislead” is just misleading people into thinking some other shapes don’t.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub it’s a simple example of how what the brain processes is at least as much area as height. If your shape isn’t a rectangle, or is a rectangle but they have different widths, people will not just see height. If all that matters is which one is bigger that won’t be too disastrous, but good data visualisation is proportional and our ability to process that is messed up heavily by using non rectangles or varying the width.
I'm not disagreeing with that and wasn't suggesting people use different width columns. Simply that the top of the column doesn't need to have right angles. It could be rounded. As long as the columns are consistent and the top of the column finished at the correct height, then they are comparable and readable at a glance.

The icon converting to shape thing is crazy

Have you by any chance tested how the emojis in the tab names play in VBA?
No, but they work fine with formulas, so I can't envisage a problem.
I had no idea you could could convert icons to shapes to edit their individual components!!!

Just drag it all the way to the left and when you get it in the right place, it'll snap to the left side.
@andreeamihaelaonea6059 like @iruntables, said, drag it to the left. You need to do it quickly for it to snap into place.
Do the emoji's in the tab names mess with formulas?
Not that I've found.
That scribble outline for the pie chart is cursed
😆in an info graphic it's eye catching!
Mynda might have gotten a little carried away at the trick #2
Nice to see folks exercising a little artistic license and having some fun.
@potatocraftd6629 😆 for the right audience/content, the sketched effect is fun. Think info graphics etc.
Using Excel instead of Photoshop is liking making calculations in Word. It sort of works but it's a huge hassle and has limited functionality.
Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's a great alternative if you don't have an expensive Photoshop subscription.
