  • Blackouts involve a complete loss of electrical power, while brownouts are characterized by a decrease in voltage that can last for minutes to hours. Brownouts can damage expensive home electronics due to voltage fluctuations, increased current draw, inconsistent performance, potential data loss, and wear and tear on components. Devices operating outside their designed voltage range during brownouts may malfunction or overheat, leading to long-term damage. To safeguard against such risks, it is recommended to use surge protectors, voltage regulators, or uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to stabilize voltage, absorb surges, and provide temporary power during outages.

The APC Line-R is designed to automatically correct brownouts and overvoltages, ensuring safe power levels for computers and sensitive equipment by boosting low voltage and stepping down high voltage from the utility service. It features an ON/OFF power switch/circuit breaker serving as the master switch for both the Line-R and connected devices, also functioning as a circuit breaker during overloads. To use, users need to select input voltage, plug the Line-R into a wall outlet, connect their equipment, and switch it on. It is crucial not to exceed the "Maximum Output Power Capacity" to prevent the power switch/circuit breaker from tripping, providing effective power management.

Thanks for the review! Just got one. My top yellow light is always on just like yours at 120 is this what it is supposed to be on or the green middle ? Thanks

It's showing that connection is drawing more than 120V. The light would flash if higher than acceptable range. You're fine.

Does it make a loud sound when you first turn yours on? I just bought one yesterday and it makes a clanging thud buzz sound when I first turn it on.

All devices that take a large load do to a certain degree. I don't know how loud yours is, though. The thud is basically the actuating sound and the buzz is from fluctuating magnetic fields.
