As others have commented, a deeper facecut would help a lot and spare you a lot of unnecessary wedge work. The less top heavy a tree, the more aggressive the facecut needs to be (in MOST cases but not ALL cases due to many different variables). The main thing is that you did the job safety and the tree fell where you wanted it to! Great job!! Some of my favorite videos!!
Interesting.... I've never cut a tree like that, that had been pre-topped. Mini skid seemed to work really well cleaning up the scraps!! Best, -- J. Andre. / Old Iron Acres
A nice flat lawn is a lot easier when it comes to sawing a tree down. No brush, sticks, or rocks to clear. Nice open escape routes. If a guy can avoid dropping the tree on a building, a job couldn't be any better. But every job is different, so we have to be on our toes at all times. We don't want our last job to be our last job. Thanks, Brock.
Brock, here in the eastern Missouri Ozarks, we just finished logging our farm. Walnut and red cedar bring around $.40-.50 cents per board foot, which is better than red oak at around .22 or so. White oak is our winner. The good logs go to the whiskey barrel manufacturer for staves and bring $2.00-$2.50 per board foot. You have a lot more experience holding a saw than I do but I typically make the face cuts deeper when cutting trees. I generally try to cut the stump closer to the ground also so my stump grinder doesn’t have to work so hard. I’ll bet you will have the stump grinder on that stump before too long. Good demonstration of cutting compression!
I’m sure your aware…..but maybe for those reading along comments here….most of us out here would use the mini to push that over (for control and safety) ….after all the tornadoes we had here in IL (July 14th and 15th) we had lots and lots of walnuts get badly damaged, and some hickorys also, they were loaded with fruit and branches were overweight. We cut down a lot of trees & stems , wherever we could, we’d push stems over with Bobcat MT100 most of them had 2”+ hinges. When I did it alone, I’d use mini to put pressure on stem for back cut, set my hinge then finish with push from mini👍🏻 Felling Stems are indeed much different than full trees. In our case, mother nature de-limbed or broke tops out😇 The Mini-Skid and grapple easily replaces 4 hardy men for tree work🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🪓🌲🌲
Good morning Brock. Glad to see you back at doing what makes you happy. It might be the camera angle but that one other tree looks like it's has a pretty good lean towards your daughter's house a nd the neighbor's. I really don't go on Facebook anymore because they censored a lot of my free speech because it supposedly didn't meet their community standards. But from what I can tell ol' Suck-a-buck doesn't have any standards. Sorry, I won't do that again. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂
looking at start of video, looks like your notch need to be deeper and not as tall. want to go 1/2 to 3/4 when creating notch. Great stuff as always. thanks for another video.
I think you did great you know you can watch the video after the job and you will see things you would like to redo but that is just learning if you get to not learning you are to old that why I am still learning at 62 lol 😂 😂

I could also picture doing this job with my 3.5 ton mini excavator with thumb.
@@stephenhinkle3277 -- Now you're talking! (And making me jealous! LOL) Live in KY? come stop by!
Good to see you again
Wow that walnut is so beautiful. I would love to see it milled.
The more and more I see that mini skid the more I want one.
Could use that myself
Gonna have to get some gooood sponsors.
Do they make one for someone that is 6 foot 5? 😁
Howdy Brock! Well done as usual. Learned something new which is always a good thing. Now if I can just retain it... 😁 Thanks for sharing 🤠

Looking forward to seeing the inside of that wood!

Where did you sell the white oak? I live about 8 miles from the cooperage in Higbee MO
May the lord bless and protect you and your homestead and getting the tree to fall

Man that's a good job
Way to just do it get it done
Hi Brock. Good job on taking care of the tree.
Thanks for sharing the experience. Great video
Enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Smething new to learn all the time . Some trees you do have to cut all the way through . I like chainsaw video, Brock . Seeya
Trees in town usually have metal in them too. To much canopy and to little log.
Yep, I've seen that too many times.

I appreciate your content
I guess I would have tried a rope with that little hinge left first, but you got it and stayed safe, congrats!
Pretty smart Brock..
I'm following you..

Once you get the log milled on the sawmill they should be worth more than you were thinking even if their live edge slabs
Sometimes you may have to stack your wedges. Good work.
Sometimes "That ain't goin' nowhere" is not a good thing...
Good video as usual Brock. And the face cut should have been deeper into the tree and it would have fell.
How do you like the full wrap handle on the saw?
#4 th 🙃🤪
Full time salesman cuts his hours!
Face cut needed to be way deeper.
Wish I could be tinkering FOR A BUCK
