  • I got the batteries at the scrap yard for £160 and so began my foray into electricity storage. Don't use lead gel for this!
There are lots of rules and regulations when dealing with solar, you should heed them. They are probably different depending on where you are.

I guess that this is the same for clay pantiles or other types of concrete roof slates or tiles. The process will be the same.

Owen, yes with a 12v multiplus 1 KW per day is achievable and as everything is close together cable sizes and runs are not a problem. That system would be much cheaper and the battery bank would not be so large, but with your 48v 3KW there is room for expansion, who knows what the electric future holds, cheers

    I built a LFP battery using Calb cells - 100ah - $650 then
used this battery to power RV house - pushed battery pretty hard daily 6 years -
No BMS just a Victron Solar controller - cells were Bottom Balanced when new -
I keep eye on what battery specs with a Icharger -
amazing how balanced cells stayed -
few months ago purchased 3 new batteries that are per made with BMS installed and much cheaper
removed First battery from service because Mixing LFP batteries With and Without BMS is not Safe -
No BMS battery will Over Charge -

48V IS EXCELLENT CHOICE! 24V is also way better-efficient than 12V for high power devices (hairdryer? water cattle? induction cooking plate? a server or two?) a lot of conversion + heat loss using 800W water cattle at 12V, if you want to power a house go 24V better 48V, some go 400V, #LeadGel is THE BEST Lead #battery that is there? u can easily build ur own battery with #LiFePo4 cells from #EVE + #JKBMS (problem: can not do 15S only 16S but SOME JKBMS have heater and balancer BUILD-IN!)

I now feel batteries are a requirement with the cost of importing electricity. Without a FIT you give it away for free during the day and then pay for it at night!
Seems like you'd then need a variable import rate to charge the battery during the winter over night cheaply and use it to buffer your high demand uses.
Even without solar panels, a battery charged at the night rate and then used by the house during the day will save 66% on that electricity.
Did you get that lower power brew kettle?

You buy something cheap and then you buy something expensive to them going. Or worst the cheap thing sits there not working not earning making the place look messy. You've done great so far. Its all part of the journey.
