Such an awesome place! I said the other day when you showed the outside that I wished you could’ve shown us inside, so I’m really glad this happened and I’m glad you got to be a part of it again! I really hope someone helps save it and keeps it going!
I love the video of Dutch Haven I worked there in the 1960s when Roy Weaver owned it. I met my husband there I was standing behind the root beer barrel. We have been married 53 years. We always joked about buying the root beer barrel. I think I worked alot of jobs . Started as a cleaning girl they rented houses nearby to tourist I worked in the bakery making shoo fly pies waitresses but my favorite was working in the gift shop under the resturant it was magical. I have sooo many memories. Sad to hear it closed.
Well...some great news for me today! I was in Lancaster today and was pleasantly surprised to see Dutch Haven open once again. I went in and had some Shoo Fly Pie and spoke with them. They are back open and according to them it's the original owner as well as some original workers too. It seemed a bit confusing and I couldn't get much more info but I was so happy! I have been driving down to Lancaster from about 90 mins up north every couple of weeks during the spring and summer for the last 18 years or so and was shocked and sad to see it close. This was a great day and it was great to be inside. I've been there so often over the years they knew me in there and what I was going to order. Enjoy! 😀
@@RetroRestStop Oh yea! it was great to finally get some good Shoo Fly Pie again. I've been going to Bird in Hand Bakery since the closing and although it's good the slice is small and just not "Dutch Haven." They look like they're still kind of restocking but it was pretty busy in there today and the front section was well stocked. The back was still empty. What a great day!
@@RetroRestStop Just a note: At the moment they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Their Facebook page as well as the webpage hours haven't been updated and still show open all week but this is incorrect. The Facebook page does mention the reopening.
I am 57 and when I was little it was tradition and we had to stop on our way to and from vacation to wildwood. I have so so many memories of eating there and collecting my Pennsylvania Dutch iteams since I was a little girl. I remember when it was a restaurant in the 70's. 😢heartbreaking it's no longer in buisness.

As you were walking around, it reminded me of the gift shop at Roadside America, and now I'm going to go cry, since it's gone too. :(
Ughh. Yes. Very similar vibe. Wish they were still open too. So many amazing attractions gone.
Wish I could have gone this weekend . Will be in the area next month for the doll show. Been stopping there on the way home 😭😭
"I'll never be back here again!" [Returns next day for pie] 😆
Thanks for inviting us out for one last look at this iconic spot!
Once you get to know me better you’ll realize that’s not at all weird for me. 😂
Wish you turned the camera around a little more I wanna see the place
I did. A lot. Or at least I thought it was a lot. Definitely more than usual. 😅
Great you got to Dutch Haven one last time and document history. Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful sharing 😊💖
thats ashame thats getting sold
Nice you got to get in there one last time !
They're asking $2.4M for the entire property - I truly hope someone purchases it and keeps the Dutch Haven going for future generations!
That's a great deal for that area. Middle of a tourist highway . Just sad
Should be turned into a crackerbarrel. Its already well themed for it
There's already one a few miles away
