  • "Over There" is an American patriotic song written by George M. Cohen that was used to encourage people to enlist in the military during World War One. The United States joined the war in April 1917 after Germany attempted to send a telegram to Mexico proposing that the two countries form an alliance and attack the United States, the telegram was discovered by the British and sent to the U.S. The war concluded on November 11, 1918 after Germany declared an armistice. Over 4 million Americans served in the U.S military during the war. Before World War Two, World War One was the deadliest conflict in history.
