Everything leading up to the fortress scene was perfect in season 5. All of it was exactly how Lena would react. The mistake the show made was after crisis. Lena held in to that anger to long and chose Lex without much of a fight. They really damaged Lena's character in that last half and while Katie did her best to show that Lena still had regrets and doubted her choices it wasn't enough to fix the damage the show did
