The issue with shows of this nature lies in their extensive team of writers. Individuals like Dave may not even be aware of the original source of the ideas, simply selecting amusing elements from the pool of writers' contributions. While it is true that he should exercise more caution in filtering out content and identifying potential plagiarism, realistically speaking, it is highly unlikely that he has the time to meticulously examine each and every joke that comes his way
Fair point, I have never watched the show Dave so I'm not familiar with the content. On the other side though, that would be the price often paid to have the most zeroes on a check and to be the face

No hate to either comedian either, both are hilarious.

@@teeblackwell6301 Theo was accused of stealing jokes from Shameless? I didn't hear about that at all. Comedy has been around for so long I don't get why anyone would think their joke was original anymore.

Do you seriously actually sit there and think they want to mirror a show half based on Lil dickys childhood around fucking Von? you fans are legit weird bro....
I like them both, but I think Theo needs to cite specific jokes if he’s going to throw that accusation around. The wooden shirt thing is pretty flimsy evidence to me
Normally a huge Theo Von fan, but imo you shouldn't bring something like this up without going into details. Joke stealing ruins comedians' careers and to get people to have this impression of Lil Dicky without backing it up is kind of messed up. There are definitely people who consider Lil Dicky a joke stealer now without even being able to name what was stolen. The wooden shirt thing is a stretch imo, and if that is literally the only thing the internet can find, and the internet is pretty good at this type of stuff, seems like a claim that needs justification.
The stigma around stealing jokes really only applies to comics. I don't follow Lil Dicky so I don't know if he does any stand-up, but unless he uses stolen jokes in his act then there's no real reason his career would be impacted. So Theo doesn't really need to justify his claim because even if its true, Lil Dickys reputation won't suffer for it
Yea the whole “everybody steals my shit” is totally from his perspective. No way is everybody stealing his stuff obviously. I like Theo and believe he genuinely feels the victim, but the whole “I don’t want to get into it” screams “it’s just how I feel else I’d have specifics” All it takes is one incident of “hey this sounds like my shit” for you to put that alleged offender into a “fuck that guy” category
Because he isn't trying to ruin his career. Maybe a little bitter and annoyed someone is stealing his stuff but not enough to ruin the dude and call him out. Not everything is a blockbuster news headlining worthy event. Chill out damn
There needs to be more given examples and they have to be closely related. Even then, in my opinion isn't stealing. They heard a man tell a funny story so they brought the concept to life but created a different version. It may have been influenced by Theo but not a reason to see Lil dicky as a competitor. I'm about to start a dark humor based cartoon series about a talking tree family that wear wooden shirts. In one scene the tree boy gets beat up on the bus. Not after he gets on wearing the skin of another tree.. Sawdust flakes falling from his little branch head.. I just did the same thing Dicky's writers did in this example that I just made up. And honestly it sounds like it has potential if it were real. That's how everything is made.
If this is the only example, it’s easily explainable as coincidence. Also, they didn’t steal the joke unless we’re saying Theo invented the possibility of a wood shirt and nobody can say anything about wood shirts ever. It’s unlikely Theo was the first person to speak the idea of a wood shirt into existence.
Theo isn’t the confrontational type, he’d never say something like this if it wasn’t true. I doubt people have gone through every joke Theo has made vs episodes of Dave. More than likely there are more examples out there that haven’t been found yet.
Ah yes, the well known classic "wooden shirt" bit. Very common TV, film and comedy trope. So common the ONLY instance you can find of it on the web is Theo Vons story, until it was borrowed for Dave. Now there's a total of TWO instances of the wooden shirt.
It's a hard argument to make when you only have one instance.I remember when i'm remember when people were pointing out amy schumer for being a joke thief and her jokes were literally word for word, or completely the same scenario, there we're like I don't know maybe Between seven and nine.
You gotta keep in mind that Theo is probably referring to his actual comedy material and that shit isnt supposed to have a public recording until he’s ready to put it out there. Otherwise, he wouldn’t actually be mad because he already released the jokes so everyone would know they’re his jokes.
@thoseertot5682 Nah man, whether it's old or new bits no comedian wants their ideas used if they aren't being credited and/or paid. It's intellectual property.

Its not unheard of. Im 36, when I was in junior high we joked about wooden clothes (pants AND shirts) because of the wooden dutch shoes or whatever. Neither Theo Von nor Lil Dicky were even a thing back in the late 90's early 2000's when my friends & i joked about that very thing. Many people have the same thoughts just a different creative angle. Its far from uncommon. You ever hear someone you've never seen use a word your group of friends uses that you dont hear anyone else use really? Or phrase...or hear a song lyric and make up your own funny version, just to hear someone else on youtube made a video about it? Also, hearing Theo tell a story about it and using that isnt stealing jokes...especially if its a true story. That's just using that story as inspiration. Stealing his joke wouldve been if he made up that story for a bit. Am I wrong? Not taking either side, but i feel people put too much attachment to "their jokes" some times.
@@PoonDestroyer69it's common logic, people have similar ideas, especially ideas about shit that exists like a wooden shirt theo didn't create that. the story he told and the story in the show have very little in common besides the shirt
I don’t know. I mean they were looking up wooden shirts and they already existed. The Dave skit just had a wooden shirt. Theo told that story years before he mentioned it on JRE. Point being, people saying "this or that" without even knowing the history of things. I'll also comment on a lot of what others have said, I've listened to Theo religiously since 2017 and I've heard him this genuinely pissed off inside maybe 3-4 times.
If the wooden shirt is all you got... no jokes were stolen. Making a joke about the same subject matter as someone else isn't the same as stealing their joke.

It def feels like Theo Von believes this to be true. But besides the wooden shirt bit, has anyone seen any other jokes ripped from Theo show up on Dave?
I mean, if the wooden shirt is the only example anybody can come up with, I'll have to call BS on the joke stealing. Just because a wooden shirt is used in an episode, the "joke" (being the dad that made his kid a wooden shirt and they used to beat him up on the bus everyday) was not used. I'm gonna need more evidence of joke stealing, because I saw no joke being re-used here. Clearly there was already wooden shirts on Google when Theo Von was on Joe Rogan, so does that mean Theo Von stole a joke because he talked about something that already existed?
Regardless I belive the premise was way to specific to be coincidence, I do belive its possible to accidently go down roads other comedians have gone down if they are common things, but wooden shirts is pretty unique, now what would cement it even further is if theo came out with multiple scenarios where Lil dicky stole
It's not stealing, it's a completely different format. Nobody can ever say anything about a wooden shirt ever again because some relatively unknown guy told a story about a wooden shirt one time? Come the fuck on.
Theo seems so angry nowadays man. Just straight up resentful, I feel like he’s ready to go at anybody at this point. He’s been the nice guy and especially perceived as one for too long especially for a loner who can take care of themselves as long as he has. Emancipated at 16 if I remember right.
I think he’s just fed up. A lot of his friends or people he’s met have stabbed him in the back over the past couple years and though the wood shirt thing is a stretch, I don’t think Theo would say he’s taking a lot of his stuff without him knowing there is some merit to it. I think maybe he’s more reactive because he’s getting no frustrated with people taking advantage of his kindness. And because of that, I think there’s some room for reason in his reactions to things.

Theo could have at least said what he should get credit for. The wooden shirt is not a stolen joke. Theo's story of the shirt is not incorporated at all. It's just an object and based on how many different kinds there were on the internet, not that unique. You can't make accusations like this without proof. That's fucked up.
Theo doesn’t need to provide shit. He’s always been pretty humble and quiet even when someone has clearly fucked him over. Even when he has reason to hate someone he still refuses to state any aggressive stance or forceful word against them. I think people are making him out to be an angry asshole. Maybe there is plenty of material the writers of Dave are taking, and he may just not want to start any shit to cause drama. That’s always a possibility. “lil dicky steals your shit?” In unison. Lol. That had me laughing my ass off
I like them both, but I think Theo needs to cite specific jokes if he’s going to throw that accusation around.
So Theo doesn't really need to justify his claim because even if its true, Lil Dickys reputation won't suffer for it
Lil Dicky isn’t a comic at all… you may be Theo fan but you’re definitely a Dave fanboy.
Obviously the thought of it pissed him off and he didn’t want to get into detail.
Yea the whole “everybody steals my shit” is totally from his perspective. No way is everybody stealing his stuff obviously. I like Theo and believe he genuinely feels the victim, but the whole “I don’t want to get into it” screams “it’s just how I feel else I’d have specifics”
All it takes is one incident of “hey this sounds like my shit” for you to put that alleged offender into a “fuck that guy” category
That's how everything is made.
butthurt someone used a joke he dishonestly says is a real story from his life just like every joke he writes and why he's "fuuny" period
@@Jodykang ah good point, now I see the other examples!

Ah yes, the well known classic "wooden shirt" bit. Very common TV, film and comedy trope. So common the ONLY instance you can find of it on the web is Theo Vons story, until it was borrowed for Dave. Now there's a total of TWO instances of the wooden shirt.

Theo told that story years before he mentioned it on JRE. Point being, people saying "this or that" without even knowing the history of things. Also brings up the point of Theo's type of comedy... he's literally been known for 5-6 years now for his crazy childhood stories. He makes up these wild stories that are clearly made up or exaggerated, but delivers them without even smirking and that's part of the bit. I'll also comment on a lot of what others have said, I've listened to Theo religiously since 2017 and I've heard him this genuinely pissed off inside maybe 3-4 times.
@@dacokcIt's a unwritten rule in comedy.. It's not done to steal someone's joke. Not about laws lmao

Just because a wooden shirt is used in an episode, the "joke" (being the dad that made his kid a wooden shirt and they used to beat him up on the bus everyday) was not used. I'm gonna need more evidence of joke stealing, because I saw no joke being re-used here. Idk the wooden shirt thing is kind of a reach so many people could think of that
Love Theo but this isn't something to be salty about, this was a premise not a joke

We'll never know the joke because Joe stepped all over it.
These just hurt that his original material wasn't as original as he thought. Not even the same joke verbatim
It's not stealing, it's a completely different format. Nobody can ever say anything about a wooden shirt ever again because some relatively unknown guy told a story about a wooden shirt one time? Come the fuck on.

I think he’s just fed up. A lot of his friends or people he’s met have stabbed him in the back over the past couple years and though the wood shirt thing is a stretch, I don’t think Theo would say he’s taking a lot of his stuff without him knowing there is some merit to it.
