The BJP-ruled NDA government has been accused of various forms of religious polarization, such as the construction of the Ram temple, giving priority to the majority of Hindus in the country. Still, the coalition is in power for the third time in the country of 1.4 billion people. The opposition alleged that if the BJP returned to power with more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, the country would have been declared Hindu Rashtra. Nobel laureate economist Dr. Amartya Sen However, there was no response from the BJP on Sen's comments.
রাম মন্দির নির্মাণ, দেশের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ হিন্দুদের অগ্রাধিকার দেয়ার মতো নানা রকম ধর্মীয় মেরুকরণের অভিযোগ বিজেপি শাসিত এনডিএ সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে। তারপরও ১৪০ কোটি মানুষের দেশে তৃতীয়বারের মতো ক্ষমতায় জোটটি। বিরোধীদের অভিযোগ, লোকসভা নির্বাচনে বিজেপি ৪শ'র বেশি আসন নিয়ে ক্ষমতায় ফিরলে দেশটি হিন্দুরাষ্ট্র হিসেবে ঘোষণা করা হতো। এবার সেই অভিযোগের গায়ে সিলমোহর দিলেন নোবেল বিজয়ী অর্থনীতিবিদ ড. অমর্ত্য সেন। যদিও সেনের মন্তব্য নিয়ে বিজেপির পাল্টা কোনো প্রতিক্রিয়া মেলেনি।
