Also in the Second Battle Of The Scarpe singlehandely ran over no mans land to the German trenshes to steal ammo for a machine gun, so that he had enough ammo to cover the escape of his fellow soldiers. Pretty awesome dude. A lot of people in this comment section talks about Simo "The White Death", but there's a couple of key differences between Simo and Pega. Simo did it in a place that he knew like the back of his own hand. Not on a completly destroyed battlefield with thousands of bullets and artilly shells hammering down all the time, and he had been training to shoot since he was a kid, where he was hunting with his dad. Pega had never even held a riffle in his hand before the war, and he was sent overseas to the trench hell warfare that was WW 1 and even had the guts to cross fucking No Mans Land multiple times to get more ammo and kills and a couple of German medals. Simo was amazing, but I still think Pega was even more awesome.

This guy's story was completely skipped in my history class as well, and I'm in Ontario. I am in the same province as the national capital and I heard not a peep about this man.
@@MyVanir Literally the opposite. They quite literally hammer in indigenous origin stories into kids' heads. And anyways, when was the last time you learned about this kind of stuff? Did you learn about Simo hayha in school? The Red baron? Any of the people sabaton sings about? The reason as to why we don't learn this stuff is because these people are nothing but tiny cogs in the giant machine and didn't make much of an impact in the grand scheme of things. Giving an indigenous man preferential treatment in history class just because he was indigenous is a bit... But I don't blame you for not knowing just how hardcore the Canadian school system is about hammering indigenous things into children's minds, you're a Yankee after all.
because he's a indigenous person from Canada in the first world war, not only that but if I remember correctly a lot of world war one and two indigenous soldiers were never able to claim their benefits for being soldiers after the wars bc of their "Indian" status. many died because they never got the help they needed, therefore it's safer for our education system to ignore that it happened
The "different past" they're talking about is his Native heritage which he used to fight a war on his own terms. This man was the most hardcore soldier to the point he literally waged a psychological war of his own for shits and giggles. On one recon mission he went beyond simply scouting. He actually snuck into the German trench after assassinating the sentries and cut off bits of the soldiers' uniforms while they were all sleeping. He also left notes containing death threats. The Germans were so shit scared when they woke up realising that someone had been in their trench and chose to watch them while they slept. Like a ghost. All of them later surrendered to a nearby advancing British battalion 3 times smaller than their force because their morale was hit so hard. Sadly, he faced racism and ridicule from his fellow Canadian soldiers.

I'd argue, that Pega is the best sniper, maybe even best soldier, of all time. He didn't have the highest kill count, but still damn impressive. The reason he's the best, is bc he did so many other things than killing, that where detrimental to the enemies war effort, like stealing both ammo and enemy plans in their fucking trench. He also captured quite a high amount of enemies and even some high value targets. He also were a major factor to victory at Passchendaele and Scarpe. Not only was he a super skilled sniper, he was also a super skilled spy. I still think he is one of the most impressive soldiers of all time.
Bruh white death is nothing, he fought in snow terrain with iron sights sure but, while Francis literally fought in the woods and in trenches while being attacked by artillery and mustard gas and took medals from dead German corpses and went back and fourth just to retrieve ammunition and keep on killing. Plus if you were to choose between which one you rather be in, I'm pretty sure everyone would rather be in WW2 instead of being in trenches.
Remember what's the most fantastic accomplishment of this man: making it to the end alive. He served the whole war. Into no-man's land, over the top, artillery pounding, into the gas, the whole shabang. From the Somme, Verdun, Paschendale, to the hundred days offensive, he served in it all. Into the most bloody fighting, into the most quiet moments, taking command when necessary, he served it all. And lived.

378 confirmed kills and also captured around 300 German soldiers, single handely led the reinforcement to the left flank in the Battle Of Pashendale and made sure they won.
Simo was the better sniper but pega was better at being a soldier.
+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man in Luke 16:24 cries: ". . .I am tormented in this FLAME."
In Matthew 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,. . ."
Revelation 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE." And please repent of all of your sins and be baptized by the Holy Spirit before it is too late, you will never know when the time will come 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that they're both badass. However, personally I think Simo is cooler and more badass in the context of a sniper, whereas Francis was just a badass soldier.

He should be just as famous as the Red Baron.
This guy's story was completely skipped in my history class as well, and I'm in Ontario. I am in the same province as the national capital and I heard not a peep about this man.
I remember hearing about Canadian natives being slowly written out of history through the curriculum, guess it's another example then.

Even after the war he didn’t receive a hero’s welcome and was still treated like an indigenous person
