New Order are one of the pioneers of music - without them music would not be as it is today & the club scene worldwide would not exist. What New Order and Factory Records did is unacheivable in these modern times, both musically & as part of a movement. Blue Monday is still THE biggest selling 12'' of all time - and New Order made nothing from it, Factory Records actually made a loss on every copy sold so given the stats the label virtually went under off the back of this magnificent relase,
Factory only lost money on the first few ten thousand-odd copies sold. They very quickly changed the design to a less expensive one to produce (removing the silver inner sleeve and changing the die-cut floppy design to a printed design instead.) It's true that New Order made no money from it though - in fact they didn't really make any money from single/album sales as it all went to keeping the Hacienda afloat.
this is such a good cover and thats a rare thing, i love the original as its got a hevey synth beat, but this version is sooo pleasent , love it Des Wigfall :)
Interesting thing for me is that I heard New Orders first and then me and my mate watched Walking Tall and I found this version. For me I found it stunning. Prefer this to the original despite knowing and listening to the original for years before this one.

This is the rare song where the cover truly outshines the original and I've been listening to the original since it came out ages ago, I think maybe in 1983 or 84 when New order wrote/performed/ recorded it. Depeche Mod e did a great cover of it and so have many others,

This could be a really nice cover if it wasn't for that absolutely godawful guitar scratching. I cannot understand why people do this on a melodic track like this where it stands out like a sore thumb. The album is called For Sleepyheads Only - this makes the song entirely unrelaxing. It maybe suits metal or heavy rock but not this, at all.
This was the first iteration I'd ever heard of this song, and to this day, I love this and the original equally.

I love the sound of this song but the lyrics are sad. It seems she is singing about physical abuse and control. That's how I view it.
