I've had history of previous CIN I and CIN III twice. It was recommended I have yearly smears for the rest of my life. Does this collection of specimens look for precancerous changes and does it test for Human Papilloma virus or are those separate tests? I had cervical smear and biopsy.

I'm a GP registrar. In answer, this tests for HPV AND additionally if enough cells are present, and the clinician has requested the cells are looked at under a microscope to see if there are any cancerous or precancerous changes. These would be reported back to the GP eg 'cervical cells present' and 'pLSIS' (this would be possible low grade cells changes).
