Anni's sister describing Shrien trying to force the jewelry on Anni's body is so upsetting. When the cousin said "stop, you're hurting her!" and he just dropped Anni's hand so violently...I have no words to explain the feeling that gave me. Not only did he take her life, but then he abused her body. And made her loved ones watch him do it!

    • @kayanalston8573
      @kayanalston8573 2 роки тому +89

I think his motive was to marry her so that his family wouldn’t think he was gay, and then after he had her murdered he could play the grieving husband for as many years as he wanted so that his family wouldn’t question him if he never dated or remarried another woman. This way he could continue to hide being gay.

Taxi drivers in South Africa are notorious criminals. There's cases here and there about taxi violence even. So Annie's Husband must've done some sort of research and knew that taxi drivers have access to dangerous people.

@@lilacfunk I live in SA. I live in one of the wealthiest suburbs (I am fortunate enough to) and there is no way I would even get into a taxi that isn't an Uber. Like you know how in New York (at least in movies) they stand on the side of the road and get into those yellow cabs. I would never do that here. Only Uber and even then I don't ever feel safe. I have never gone to one of those townships nor do I plan on. I heard of somebody I know going there with a bunch of people as volunteers to help build a school or something and they all got robbed... They went there to help and got robbed. I would never ever hitchhike. I am so scared that when on runs I won't even run past a parked van that I can't see inside of because if I get pulled into it, nobody will be able to see me screaming for help. PLEASE research this case: Uyinene and Luyanda Botha. The reason this case is so important is that it sparked peaceful protests in my country where we as South Africans said we want something to change. Uyinene went to my University and I attended her memorial where her mom spoke. She went to a post office to collect a parcel and was r****d and m*******d by Luyanda Botha, a pig who worked at the post office. He therefore worked for the government and look what happened. She will never be forgotten and her legacy lives on as she united the whole of SA.

In case anyone is curious, Shrein Dewani is still living freely. Back in 2018, pictures of him getting cozy with a Brazilian photographer surfaced, and I believe Shrein also confirmed their relationship on social media. The pair also took a trip to Mumbai, the city in which Anni & Shrein got married, something that greatly upset Anni's father, Vinod. Back in 2020, when Anni's family was mourning her 10 year death anniversary, Shrein was spotted casually stepping out of his apartment complex wearing gym clothes. The images are available online, pretty much the first result if you look up his name. He really has no remorse.
I've also found a few articles online, linking him to another murder that happened back in 2007. The victim was Dr. Pox Raghavjee, a friend of the family. Dr. Raghavjee was also murdered due to a carjacking, and the case is still open if the information I referred to is correct. This theory is backed by a statement given by Zola [the taxi driver], who alleged that Shrein Dewani told him that he had previously arranged a murder via a fake carjacking in South Africa.
All my prayers for Anni's family, especially her sister's young kids, this is absolutely horrific to have to live through. Rest In Peace, Anni, I hope justice is served in the near future🕊️

The Cape Grace is one of the premier hotels in Cape Town, there is no reason a wealthy person would use a shitty taxi service rather than the luxury chauffeur service of the hotel. Especially from the airport for your first trip. The Pavilion restaurant in Strand is a shithole. No one would recommend it to a tourist, there are hundreds of “normal” restaurants in Cape Town and surrounds. No sane person would drive into a township at night, South African or otherwise, even driving on the N2 freeway past the townships at night is considered unsafe to Capetonians. The defense of “why would he ask the first taxi driver” aren’t considering this. He intentionally recruited the most sketchy form of transportation, read the guy, and hedged his bets knowing he has a finite amount of time in SA to find someone to off his wife.

What I'll never understand about this case is that it was clear from the start that Shrehan didn't love or care about Annie. Annie didn't want to marry him and he obviously didn't want to marry her. So instead of getting married to a woman you don't want to be with and then immediately arranging for her to be murdered in order to not be married anymore, why just... not get married in the first place? He ends up shacking up with a dude in London so he wasn't trying to hide his sexuality so you can't say he did it because he didn't want his family to know he was gay. He was quite open about it in fact. Also he was rich and he didn't collect on any life insurance so money wasn't a motive. So what the hell was the point of it all? It just doesn't make any sense! Either way, I hope her spirit haunts him every day 'till the day he dies.

So here's my take on this: Shrien is the mastermind. He had his wife assassinated to be free of that marriage. I think him being gay didn't have so much to do with it. From Anni's texts it seems clear that they just hated being with each other. He probably faced a lot of pressure from his culture and family to proceed with the wedding, so he thought he could handle it because, frankly, he had to - it's what you do. But when they were in their marriage, he realised pretty quickly, just how much he hated it, that he couldn't live like this, so he becomes more and more desperate to break out. The higher the desperation, the more extreme the action becomes to escape. Anni might have become the one he blamed for his misery. I can imagine that by the time they were on their honeymoon, he was so desperate to end the marriage by any means that he just wanted her dead. When you're that out of your mind, reason becomes secondary...
My heart goes out to Anni's family. They seem like such lovely people.
I guess, even though Shrien got away with murder in the eyes of the law, his punishment is that everyone knows he really did it.

Well, I think him being gay also play in this, she probably wants love and cuddle, and kids later on. But he can't give it to her. So for him killing her was the "only" way. And may be she caught him on the gay dating web site, so he tried to cut her off as fast as possible before she tells to her and his parents about his sexual orientation. Even though I can understand his motive still he should've just came out to his family, what worse could happen out coming out to your family? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't kill him for it. He killed his wife without any remorse just because he didn't want to "dirty" his image..

You can literally get away with murder in South Africa. There's just too much crime going on to pay attention to each case. Prisons are full and therefor not allowing for much more people to get locked up. If you have the cash to pay, your case goes away. I believe for sure the husband was involved in her murder. He got away because he probably paid someone off. The parents could be glad they got the hijackers. They do not even get that far in normal day to day cases.

I’m also wondering about the “Aunty” who introduced them? I cannot imagine what she must be feeling. Obviously, it’s not her fault, she wouldn’t know this could happen, but I’d imagine she feels, in some way, responsible. No wonder the family is unable to recover.

@@faithsegura4400 obviously I cannot be 100% certain of his motivation, but I can make an educated guess, which I base upon my experiences living within the East Indian community, for the past 30 years. I feel that his parents were pressuring him to marry, they mean no harm, it’s just their way. They feel marriage is the next step for their educated, grown children. They feel it will bring happiness, stability, etc. For him to admit being homosexual to his parents, firstly he would, most likely, be extremely unwilling to do this. He would be certain they would not accept, nor understand. He may also have had an idea it would bring great turmoil to the extended family, and possibly felt they might stop speaking to him. To put it shortly, he would have been terrified. Obviously, there are no excuses for what this man did and it is obviously extremely wrong, and I am in no way implying that anyone else of East Indian heritage would even think of doing what this clearly disturbed individual did. I just have a sense he was disturbed enough to think; well I will get married, than I will become a widower, and say I am so grieved I cannot think of getting remarried.

It seems to me that money talks and that someone or some people were paid off, e.g. the judge who dismissed the case that already had some questionable things investigated and the police/investigators. Lastly, the husband had this all planned out from the get-go. What a pathetic monster.

I find it hard to believe the men involved would make up a BS story about it being a hit. They confessed to murder, is a murder for hire somehow less bad than a robbery gone wrong, how? Why let the husband who seen there faces go but not the wife, sexual assault wasn't the reason so why? There just isn't any motive I can see in them making this up unless they got a better plea deal but that doesn't appear to be the case. The first guy to be brought in spilled everything he had plenty for a deal with it being a robbery by ratting out the others involved why make things up? You'd think the men's stories would vary wildly if it were made up as well? Plus the security footage and texting speaks for itself. Palms were greased that's sadly pretty clear. Infuriating!

I think Shrien's family paid off the judge. He absolutely set that up. You don't go around those towns in So Africa at night, it's questionable during the day. If he cared about his wife he would not have agreed to go into such a horrible town at night. The texts back and forth with him and the driver. All that footage of him with the killers. It's sad what people with lots of money get away with. May Anni rest in peace. I hope one day her family also finds some peace.

Even on the footage of them walking. It's their honeymoon and he walks in front of her like way ahead, instead of side by side. He was probably gay and in the closet, he'd rather be a widow than have to sleep with a woman, and this way he can stay single because he is "grieving" and just go do his gay guy stuff on the down low.

This is so infuriating, he literally got away with murder. The defense saying that he is Bisexual and his sexual orientation has nothing to do with the case makes so sense. He told her that he doesn’t believe in sex before marriage, but turns out he has had sex with men. If he was Bi, why would he say that to her?
He also showed no signs that he was grieving his wife’s death. Throwing parties before the funeral, watching porn right after the murder, he had no sense to even act like he was grieving her death. It also makes so sense that he would go find a random taxi driver when he got there when he could have used a reputable car service, it’s not like he can’t afford it. Even people who aren’t rich try to go all out for their honeymoon if not on other vacations. It also makes no sense that she insisted to go to that part of town when she initially didn’t even know where they were going for their honeymoon, it was all planned by him.
I feel so bad for her family. She seems like an amazing person and she didn’t deserve to die this way. How selfish of him to take another life just to keep his secret, it all came out anyway so her death was for nothing. 😞

He did it. Find it odd that in this age of internet, dark web, etc. the judge didn’t entertain the possibility that the arrangements had been made before he entered the country. Perhaps their meeting at the airport was not a chance meeting but a pre arranged one, after all there was no reason to take a taxi- a lot of actions don’t make sense unless he was involved.

Please do the Peter Spencer Case.
Peter Spencer was a Jamaican immigrant who was shot 9 times while on a cabin trip with "friends" . His friends where all white, he was the only black person in the group. The shooter says that it was in self defense, but according to the coroner and a private coroner the family hired, he was shot multiple times from the back. The amount of shots he received from the back vary fro each coroner. The point is that they're claiming self defense, but shot him 9 times which is overkill and shot him from the back, possibly meaning he was trying to get away. Also, if Peter was the aggressor, they were more than him so they could've subdued him without having to shot him. You can tell from him pictures that he was pretty skinny and lanky so they could've easily done that. This case is so infuriating, because I feel like the police is treating the public like we are stupid. The person that shot him admitted he did it so its not like they have to look for the person. They already know who it is, but they haven't even arrested him. The public believes that if it would have been the oposite, Peter, the black man, would have shot one of the white guys, he would've been immediately arrested. Also, in the arrea in Pensylvania where they where is known not to be the most welcoming to black people. Please cover this as soon as you can. This needs as much as on it as soon as posible to force the police to finally do their job. They are also trying to get the FBI involved.
This case reminded me of the Tamala Horsford case. She died under mysterious circumstances while at a sleepover. She was the only black woman and the rest where while. There was one latino who is not white, but I'm not going to guess his race as it is not clear.

I'm South African & I can recall this case & how upsetting it was for everyone. Also telling of our country unfortunately, he probably knew that he could come here get someone to do this & it would be blamed on our high crime rates. His constant depression antics to avoid the trial & when the trial finally started he just got off so easily. I feel so sad for this poor woman, she probably found out that he was gay & maybe he got scared that she would out him. I really hope that he gets his karma one day, unexpectedly & painfully so.
